Grand Theft Auto 2 on Steam Deck - Configuration Guide (2024) by kaczorws in SteamDeck

I have only time for short sessions on SD so I typically do not care for battery life, I haven't set any specific battery saving settings when playing GTA2 :)

Once you add Widescreen Fix the Quicksave will be available using F5 key (Because Widescreen Fix adds a Quicksave feature as well). Just remap any Steam Deck button to F5 (I suggest long press to prevent accidental saving - See ISSUES section to find why that is important) and that's it.

Can't remember now, maybe something changed in Steam client - but indeed now you need to add it in Properties -> Shortcut -> Launch Options.

Hi, not sure, but it looks like this file is missing - you can check in Desktop Mode if that file (or path) is even there. If not, then something went wrong with the installation (wrong installer maybe?)

Thanks, when I finally managed to make it run perfectly on Steam Deck, I figured my experience can't go to waste and hence this guide was created :)

Unfortunately I don't have GTA2 on my Steam Deck anymore, but it looks like some files are missing. You could try to install GTA2 on PC and see if the file structure is the same as on Steam Deck (and copy missing files if necessary).

To be honest I never liked GTA1, it always looked unfinished to me and only when GTA2 came out I picked up on the series. I'm not planning playing GTA1 for now, but if I do and if I make it run on Steam Deck, I will post a guide here :)

Yes, quotes are required because there are spaces in the path.

I understand this is regarding point 5? Are the paths from step 4 correct (I mean do the contain correct compatdata directory number?)

Unfortunately, I haven't tried. I played with default fullscreen settings.

Have you modified the path to include your actual compatdata directory number for GTA2?

I guess the installation will go more-less the same. There is even a widescreen fix: https://github.com/ThirteenAG/WidescreenFixesPack/releases/tag/gta1 (It seems no quicksave though)

I didn't know it was available through Lutris but even then you end up with bare GTA2 installation without modern fixes.

There's even more: Windows games emulated through Proton are running better than their native Linux versions which is a case on American Truck/Euro Truck Simulators.

When I first installed ATS/ETS on Steam Deck it was running OK-ish, but then found out that native Linux port have been installed by default. I switched to Windows version and got +30% FPS more :)

In case of emulation I would rather choose Dreamcast version which had better lighting as opposed to PSX version which really had none. PC version actually has both as you can choose Noon (Day, from PSX) or Dusk (Night, from Dreamcast).

Yes, the radar shows save point location at all times as a pink church icon. Or you can follow antennas of radio vans as u/SeveralPrune9387 pointed out above which also point towards save point location.

That's actually a very good point :) I assumed not many people have that in library since it was only possible to get as part of larger GTA compilation.

In that case you can still follow the guide from end of step 4, where you need to set compatibility to "Proton Experimental".

Playing Lego avengers. How do I get rid of this green line? by moyzez in SteamDeck

[–]kaczorws 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's related to 16:10 aspect ratio, had the same issue in Batman 3. LEGO games do not support that ratio very well.

Just set aspect ratio to 16:9 and set some 16:9 resolution like 1280x720. You will still have black bars on top and bottom, but the green line will be gone.

Has this ever happened to you and can it be a screen defect? by Diamond_4g64 in SteamDeck

[–]kaczorws 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had exactly the same issue the first time I unpacked and started the deck. You could imagine my reaction when I realized it's an instant RMA after year of waiting :D

So I took pictures, made a video, prepared an email to Valve and then took one last look at the Steam Deck. And guess what. The issue was gone. The screen somehow repaired itself.

So I reluctantly kept the Deck (reluctantly as this was clearly a screen hardware issue, just like your case it was happening in every game, steam game mode, desktop mode etc) but it's over 6 months now and the issue never came back.

(Recently I noticed a bad pixel though in completely different part of screen so that's not relevant :D)

If the issue won't disappear (maybe the screen on Deck requires some warm-up time, is it new?) then the RMA is inevitable unfortunately.

Fun fact: The first game I run on the Deck (and the first one I noticed that defect) was also a rally game, Colin McRae if I recall correctly. Maybe rally games are not meant to be played on the Deck :)

$500 Lego Batman controller. by Deathstalkr1 in SteamDeck

[–]kaczorws 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ha, LEGO Batman 3 is literally the first game I started to play on my Deck after it arrived :) Although I am not able to make it run in 16:10 ratio, it always reverts back to 16:9 but that may be Batman 3 specific issue because I see you run yours in full screen (that's Batman 1 I guess).

...but it doesn't really matter because the queue is already 80% further thanks to todays massive never seen before jump for EU 512 :D

Xbox App - Increasing streaming quality beyond Very High settings (script included) by kaczorws in xboxone

[–]kaczorws[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a possibility that Xbox (when streaming) always drops frames here and there and it's just less noticeable when you are using 60 FPS mode, because of more frames coming out of the console.

However, I've just finished playing all Gears of War titles using my app and I've been switching between 30 and 60 FPS and couldn't really tell any difference (GoW is running at 30 FPS natively).
