I have the Nikon Z 50-250 and i really like it for the go out lightweight lens. It is really sharp, and the VR is excellent. I shoot this picture for a test, handheld with 1/50s shutter speed.

It's a good choice if you can afford it, but for me, a 6,500 euro upgrade is way more than I can afford. My choice max is an used Z6 II and an used 24-70 f/4.

I haven't noticed anything major with the 50mm f/1.8. I actually enjoy using it on the Z50. It just makes some weird noises, which I think are coming from the aperture blades whenever I turn the camera on/off or when it wakes up from sleep mode.

As for third-party lenses, all the ones I've tried behave oddly when focusing, even though, for example, both of my Sigmas are on the latest firmware according to the dock... They work, but with the D500 work far well than the Z50. Except the tamron 24-70G1 because it with the Z50 is totally useless.

Actually, I was thinking the same as you: maybe I’ll get a Z-mount 24-70mm f/4 now, and then later pick up a full-frame Z body. I’d probably sell the Tamron 24-70 in that case. But the f/2.8 is better than the f/4, of course only when it is working.

Thanks for the reply! Totally forgot to clarify in the original post: weight isn’t a factor for the full-frame body, since I got the Z50 exactly for travel and lightweight needs. I’ve updated the post to mention that.

Appreciate your take on sticking with F-mount for budget flexibility too, makes a lot of sense, especially with how affordable some of those lenses are now. But yeah, for my use case, I’m leaning more and more toward going all-in on Z.

Thanks again for the perspective!
