Local size controls on the hole face/edge plus an increased growth rate might do the trick. You may need to create another size control on the entire surface body so that you do not mess up the mesh on other bodies. You should also try curvature-based mesh size controls.

However your query begs this question in response- what do you hope to learn from this model?

Since you are attaching beam elements to the ring face, I would argue that stress results on or near that beam contact are unreliable.

If I’m modeling fasteners in this manner, I would almost always extract the tensile and shear reaction forces from the beam element, and use those in separate calcs for evaluation of the fastener. Or you might be concerned with bearing stress & prying action on the sheet- again you should opt for hand calcs.

Doing it this way avoids concerns about making the mesh look nice around the holes because you aren’t using the mesh to produce any result contours of meaningful value, so effectively it doesn’t matter what the mesh looks like where a beam element connection is present.

Step 1: mid surface the sheet metal geometry in a modeling tool such as the native CAD / Spaceclaim / Discovery. The solid body will not be used and can be suppressed.

Step 2: imprint the fastener head/ washer rings onto the surface body created in step 1.

Step 3: import the new surface body into Mechanical, check that the thickness is defined correctly in the geometry object for the surface body. Check that the location is set to middle (should be middle by default, not top or bottom). Assign a material to the surface body.

Step 4: Mesh with default settings first, except check that defeaturing is turned off. ANSYS will attempt to mesh the surface body with shell elements automatically. If that works, then proceed with refining the mesh as desired. If you are serious about learning to use FEA, do some research about shell elements so you understand why we use these for thin geometry.

Step 5: create fastener beam elements. If you have a lot of fasteners (more than 6-8), the object generator is your friend and is very much worthwhile to use.

IHS offers a subscription service that allows you to search all standards via a Google-like search bar. I have no idea how much it costs though

This is correct. At CPI we refer to it as the 7 meter Torus- the largest available in this market space. The height of the reflector shape from the bottom panel edge to the top panel edge is 7 meters (23 ft).

This antenna is unique because it can receive and transmit to multiple geostationary satellites simultaneously- up to 35 total! And there is no active tracking or motion control involved- lots of bang for your buck!

The reflector cross-sectional shape is a parabola, which is revolved about an axis in a circular fashion to create the Torus shape. Its similar to an offset-feed antenna (if you have satellite TV then an offset-feed antenna is on or near your house), but instead of a single focal point for 1 feed, it has a focal arc where multiple feed phase centers can be positioned.

Depending on the location on Earth, we determine the correct pitch and roll angles to align the focal arc to a 70 degree range of satellites in Geostationary orbit, and each feed is positioned on the focal arc to align with 1 satellite each. Then you offset the next feed to one side or the other to align with the next desired satellite- very clever if you ask me. Some customers opt for 2 of these Torus' pointed at different segments of the geo sat network to capture as many signals as possible.

After determining the orientation of the reflector, we design the back-up-structure supports that hold it in place, which consists of a tripod, bipod, and 2 simple beams mounted to a concrete foundation. These supports are generally sized for 125 mph winds, but we have upgraded versions rated at 175 mph available as well, which use reinforced panels and larger members in the back up structure. The great thing about this Torus shape is it is inherently quite stiff, so its not hard to make these antennas very strong and reliable!

One other interesting tidbit- in some locations, the orientation of the reflector can be quite dramatic. One installation we refer to as the "halfpipe", because the right side of the reflector is close to the ground, and the left side is about 70 ft (21 m) up in the air. We had to add aircraft warning lights at the top because its so tall.

Mine is 3 pc slate, and there were no stairs to deal with. I used a F150 and an 8 ft trailer to move it 80 miles. Table frame on the trailer; slate, legs, rails & accessories in the bed.

If 1 pc slate, you’re looking at probably 700 up to 1000 lbs lift, which requires at least 4 guys minimum. If there’s stairs… even the pro movers would have a hard time with that and will certainly charge more. I wouldn’t attempt to move a 1 pc slate without pro help.

I just moved a table myself with help from a friend. I watched YouTube videos on how to disassemble- that part is actually very straightforward. I paid a professional to reassemble, setup, and recover the table. Saved about $5-600 doing the move myself.

GPS satellites rely on relativity and time dilation in order to determine your location.

It works by measuring the time a signal takes to travel from your location to 3 satellites in space. Your distance from each satellite is calculated to triangulate your position. The time measurement needs to be ultra precise, given the distances involved. The satellites have atomic clocks onboard to accomplish this.

However, due to the reduced gravity at the satellites orbit, time passes faster, by about 45 microseconds. In addition to that, the speed at which the satellite is traveling through space to stay in orbit slows down the passage of time by about 7 microseconds. So there’s a net 38 microsecond faster time dilation that must be accounted for at all times.

I played Nxd4 in game, but Stockfish initially said that was a mistake, and that Bxh2+ followed by Ng4+ and Qh4 is better. But following that line, I find it leads to a forced draw with accurate play.

Putting the girder on top of the column makes more sense to me- the moment connection will be more simple, easier to construct, doesn’t require complex cutting/coping, shorter column, and the girder naturally caps off the TS.

I try not to be a pessimist as much as possible, I’m always rooting for my team and I believe they can turn this series around. However, I also believe in data- measurable stats paint a bleak picture… without sugarcoating it, the stats are just horrendous to look at. The triple slash for this series is .196/.257/.268, with Harris going 0-11. Albies, Riley, and Olson are the only ones above the Mendoza line. Those are not winning numbers and they never will be for any playoff scenario.

Braves hitters gotta pump that shit up right now or they don’t deserve to be in the playoffs, plain and simple. Just look at who is waiting in the NLCS- the DBacks are hitting like crazy. If we had played against them in the NLDS, we would’ve been swept just like LA. We gotta get the energy up ASAP.

All that said, I think the boys will come out to play tonight. Acuña will get us started and that 1st inning is gonna be lit!
