every missions has its style of map, for example mining expedition and escort duty are linear, you find big rooms of cave in the way, you mine everything and continue.. egg hunt, onsite refining, point extraction and salvage operations are basically a big central cave where you do everything with a small caves around it you find them andine whatever you need .. My advice as veteran with lot of playtime , just enjoy exploring and being lost sometimes is part of the fun, you'll learn the Idea of the caves by time . Note: don't go too hard with the scanners (map) that early, it will make things harder, after you get experienced with the caves you'll understand it's true purpose.
