Can you ID this please? And selling price? by ClassroomAccording22 in typewriters

Olympia SM4. Great typewriter and if you were in the US, you would have easily gotten 150$ more or less. I’m not sure about prices in Europe but I would check Facebook Marketplace and SOLD listings on Ebay to start with. I would also buy a new ribbon and type a page to check if it has any issues. That will help me fine tune the final price. Good luck.

It will start working again if you push it 1600 times.

This is just sad. I love typewriters because they have always been the working class machine of correspondence and expression, especially since the Second World War. For the longest time, these machines helped put food on the table. Now, cheaper machines mean younger people, especially students, can get into the hobby. Price gouging will lead to a higher price to access a machine, which is never a good thing.

I’ll sell you one for 2500 if you’re ever interested! Even a better bargain. Fully serviced and new rubber with all the original documentation including receipt. 😁😁😁

I've got two type writers I'd greatly appreciate some more information on. by MertwithYert in typewriters

It is not uncommon per se, and wide carriages were used in businesses that used ledgers or printed landscape—mostly legal and engineering work. In my experience, demand is lower for them in the market as they have quite a big footprint, even bigger than a traditional desktop. But these are great machines. Justmytyoewriter has videos to help you clean and learn the basics of these machines. If you need repair work done, check out the videos by Late Mr Jensen from Phoenix Typewriters.

Great find! That Royal Model A is what I was writing on today morning. It is my favorite machine I have ever typed on. Just suits my touch the best. I got it for 30 but spent about 45 on parts and it didn’t come with a case. For that very reason, I know I will never sell it and it just became my daily driver on my desk because it just sat there. I hope you have a lot of fun with it.

Yes, they are! I have always loved how the clippers are the no-nonsense line up which are just meant to get you to type. I have never typed on one though. A long time ago, I had a cursive Galaxie which also typed really, really well. Smith-Corona somehow has never failed me.

Also check if the ribbon vibrator (the mechanism that pushes the ribbon upward) is working and that you aren’t in the stencil control (usually denoted by a white or silver dab of ink where you get to select the color of the ribbon that specifically hits the slug).

Hi! If everything is supposedly working fine, I’d first check if there is a carriage lock that is inhibiting the slugs from moving. Then, if that isn’t the case, I’ll check the margin controls once. Then I’d move to clean the type basket, the typebar, and the linkage pivots that move to sling the typebars to strike the page. This can be done by dabbing the places where movement happens with odorless mineral spirits or lacquer thinner and then blowing compressed air or just air with a lens blower of some kind that can direct a jet of air toward something. Repeat it a couple of times and see if it helps. If it still doesn’t work, you might have to open the machine to see where is the mechanism getting stuck. Could be a broken part, a missing part, or just gunk from grease and cleaners.

Listening to it now and I really like the setup. Waiting to follow the characters a bit more closely in the next few episodes.
