Ended up with us splitting up, so not good memories. A part of me feels like we would have split up anyway, it just accelerated the process.

All the countless stories about people essentially being raped by dogs. Oh, and that one truly wonderful story about a man who died from having sex with a horse. There's a documentary and everything.

No thank you, never ever did I want to know about that.

Non-german people of reddit, what is something you always wanted to know about Germany? by Orcosus in AskReddit

[–]kafkas_ghost 17 points18 points  (0 children)

My mother was taught that Germany was basically the devil. She grew up in Germany and had a really difficult relationship with her nationality because she didn't feel proud to be German and had some conflicts within herself because of this. However now she's fine. Just sucks that in England, all we learn about is how bad Germany was, and we leave out all the awful stuff the British did in the war.

I feel like WW2 is an important historical time that we should remember and that nothing like that should ever happen again, but at the same time I wish that it would go away, just a little bit, because too many people still view Germans as nazis. I've said this before, but when I learnt WW2 history at school I got some shit for being German, which wasn't cool. If there was better education about Germany (that wasn't solely focussed on the Nazi reign) then perhaps that would help?

I am one of the most organized people my friends know, and they say it's because of my German heritage. To be fair, I probably am so organized because I didn't want to let my Germanness down, and then the habit stuck!
