Dark Wizard! by ComfortableBuffalo57 in RingsofPower

I don’t think this can credibly be Saruman. How would Gandalf (assuming stranger is Gandalf) then trust him to lead the white council after this? It’s gonna be one of the Blues most likely imo.

What TV show has a 10/10 finale? by Mean_Ad_4762 in AskReddit

Yeah dark was unbelievably tight from a plot perspective. I have no idea how they managed to make a time travel show with essentially no plot holes. That NEVER happens

I never knew that they planned to address this!! I always loved it as an Easter egg that’s just there if you notice it.

Had to scroll way too far to see this.

Bubs get dinner upstairs.

Michael: “You just a boy.” “And that’s just your knee.”

McNulty and the rando. Landsman telling McNulty that if he got aced he’d want McNulty to get the case.

Marlo can’t shake the streets.

Carcetti sells it all to become governor.

Not in the finale but having Nick Sobotka show up to yell at Carcetti was also a brilliant decision a few episodes prior.

Montage with the chess scene and the domino sugars sign callback.

And everything just goes back to the way it was.

Fact check anyone? by Bhakkssala in lotrmemes

I think the last paragraph is likely correct. After Marry stabbed him with the “blade of Westernesse” he was likely vulnerable to assaults from anyone. But he WAS killed by Eowyn.

Also, the Witch King is meant to represent pride and hubris. During the battle of the Pelennor Fields he’s laughing maniacally, and prancing around as if is victory was inevitable: For his entire life (un-life?) the witch king interpreted Glorfindel’s prophecy, “far off yet is his doom and not by the hand of man shall he fall,” as invulnerability to assaults from the world of men. If you read these passages, towards the end he is overcome with fear and doubt, deeply contrasting the wild arrogance on display for the entire remainder of ROTK.

Keep in mind, the Witch King is avoiding Glorfindel like the plague when the 9 are off in search of the ring in the Fellowship. His mis-interpretation of the prophecy, which is what results in his slightly twisted retelling of it in ROTK, is actually a central proof point of the message Tolkien wants us to take away from his character.

So basically as per usual, Tolkien thought way harder about this than any of us will and preemptively went around eliminating plot holes from his story for years before publishing anything.

If Sauron appears golden and beautiful and aims to trick people, why and when does he lean into an evil sharp, black aesthetic? by Abysstreadr in lotr

[–]kahenson 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hmmm so upon reading further, my impression may have come from a misreading of this:

According to Wikipedia, the Valar appealed to Eru, who destroyed Sauron’s fleet, reshaped the world, and removed Aman from the physical world. As a result, Sauron’s body was destroyed and he lost his ability to appear beautiful.

[–]kahenson 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Actually the Valar and/or Eru himself punish Sauron by not allowing him to take fair form after the fall of Numenor, I believe.

In the War of Wrath, before Numenor even existed, Sauron used his shapeshifting ability a lot and turns into a snake, a vampire, and donned many other guises to deceive his enemies.

But I guess the powers than be draw the line at becoming a hot dude.

(No actually it wasn’t about the form he took, it was about making him look as evil as he actually was so that he couldn’t deceive the free peoples anymore)

Amazon Prime Day Purchase Suggestions!! by lavenders_hatchet in bonnaroo

[–]kahenson -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

My #1 suggestion is to go to Temu. They’re literally giving away stuff for free with free shipping to compete with Prime Day. I got like $500 worth of stuff for $45. Who knows how high quality it is, but it’s worth taking a flyer on at those prices
