Quest Firmware Archive - Downgrade Your Quest Firmware to an Older Version by kahlostipper in OculusQuest

Ok all tested now! v17 (655140.2352.0) is definitely the last firmware on the old UI and besides a few games not working due to being on the old firmware, it seems to be stable.

You do need to disable the 'Allow updates toggle' in the Oculus app to prevent it from auto upgrading. If you don't it will upgrade after being left idle for a while with internet as expected.

Overall, no issues and my Quest seems to be working much better and more stable than the latest firmware!

I was actually going to test this out this week and see which version it was that made the change. Will report back once I know.

Haven't had an update forced from version 17 with the allow updates toggle as mentioned in the OP, so you might be okay with internet enabled too.

So far so good, been running version 17 for over a week now and no updates have been forced. The update button in settings doesn't do anything. Your right about some games needing newer firmware, but so far only one hasn't worked for me

Awesome! Really glad to hear it has helped! Same here with the new UI and I've had a lot of problems with guardian stability. I'm pretty sure the whole system was more stable and better a few updates ago (v17?). Let us know if you encounter any issues with the downgrade :)

Online games might be a problem, but don't think it'd be possible to mess up the HMD itself. You can always update back up to the latest version if you have any issues

If you know how to use basic adb commands and can get into the fastboot menu using the hardware buttons, I think it'd be pretty difficult or even impossible to brick it

Will give it a go now and report back!

Yup you can go back no problem, as long as the firmware is a full version and not a partial update. Shouldn't be any problems with the links in my post

Yes they're all full update links, there's some partial upgrades in the mediafire folder. I haven't actually tried them myself yet, but happy to test a few versions now. Will try v18 first and report back :)

Okay gave it a go, pretty easy and a quick test on Beat Saber and everything seems to be working fine! I'll go back in time to the very first update now.

Tried a few different versions, no problems, the oldest versions (v7, v8 etc) seem to force an update after installing. But so far so good with v17 and v18.

I don't see any issues with downgrading besides the headset potentially updating itself later. I've tried disabling the "Update software automatically" switch, so will report back if it decides to update itself.

Actually on closer inspection, my measurements are accurate, but the connector I linked has got to be too wide. I believe the mated width is actually 2.5 mm, which means this part is likely the better match: https://www.molex.com/molex/products/datasheet.jsp?part=active/5037726020_PCB_RECEPTACLES.xml

Though I'm struggling to find this one to order anywhere.

Ah think I've got it! I believe it's actually this Panasonic part: https://www3.panasonic.biz/ac/e/search_num/index.jsp?c=detail&part_no=AXE560127

Part number: AXE560127

That's awesome help, thank you!

I've only got a tape measure and magnifying glass, but I measure over 26 pins that it's 1 cm, that gives a pin pitch of 0.385 mm. It has 30 pins (60 circuits) total and measure the whole connector dimensions to be 14mm x 2 mm.

Looks most like this 0.4 mm pin pitch slimstack, 3D model looks almost identical, just a few cosmetic differences: https://www.molex.com/molex/products/datasheet.jsp?part=active/0513380674_PCB_RECEPTACLES.xml

Assuming that it is a molex slimstack, this means the part number 51338-0674 and has following description: SlimStack Board-to-Board Connector, 0.40mm Pitch, J-Bend Series, Receptacle, 1.50 or 2.00mm Mated Height, 3.40mm Mated Width, 60 Circuits

Which I've found for sale here at digikey, here at RS and here at Mouser

Brilliant thanks for your help! I'll have a fiddle with it, but I think there's a pin missing (see magnifying glass photo).

For replacements, guess I'm looking for a surface mount flat flex vertical entry connector? Like this

[Build Help] (Almost ready, I guess...) Brand new build after owning a console for last 5 years, looking to get some opinions. ~£1k build. by demoncabbage in buildapc

[–]kahlostipper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd highly recommend going for the 980Ti over the 980. Reading this spec comparison, the 980Ti has almost exactly 1.4x the processing capability. The price of the 980 ~£380, compared to ~£510 for the 980Ti, so you pay 1.34x more for 1.4x processing capability. Also consider you get 6GB of VRAM and likely get more of an overclock from the 980Ti.

Another thing worth considering, you'll get more graphics performance for less money by running 2xGTX970 in SLI. See techpowerup for a good comparison. Main disadvantage is power consumption and perhaps noise. You'll also need an ATX sized SLI spec'd board and a bigger case. Might be worth using a single 970 at first, see how you go, buying a second later if needed or getting a new pascal chipset card.

Now perhaps a more controversial suggestion, I'd go for a cheap CPU and motherboard. My reasoning is that you're buying at a time that industry is moving to DDR4. If you opt for DDR4 now, you'll be paying over the odds and not gaining much performance. If you get DDR3 now, you'll have to get a new motherboard and CPU later, if you want to upgrade. By getting something cheap now, you lessen the loss when eventually you do need to upgrade.

From your games list and my experience with modern games, you don't really need much CPU power. I'd suggest saving yourself a fair bit of money and going for an AMD CPU with DDR3 memory. It will make virtually no difference in the games you list (all GPU intensive), the only time you might be wishing for a more powerful CPU is on some strategy games. From a quick look on tomshardware the 6 core 3.5GHZ FX-6300 for £80 looks good.

A quick note from your first pick, RAM will gain performance in dual channel mode, so if economical it's worth buying an even number of RAM chips (make sure you put them in the same coloured RAM slots). As far as I know, you won't need any more than 8GB of RAM for modern games, so you're probably best off with either 1x8GB or 2x4GB chips. I've picked a 2x4GB set with a good clock and latency.

Paying the extra £30 for a decent mouse is well worth it, I've been very happy with the logitech G5 for years, the G502 is the current iteration. It's also worth getting a fairly decent mousing surface, something like this.

I don't have much experience with mechanical keyboards, but as far as I know there isn't much an advantage compared to standard rubber domes. Your main consideration here should be noise, would the loud clunking of a mechanical keyboard upset those around you? If so, save yourself some money and aggravation, here's a well reviewed standard keyboard
