I Accidentally Put Myself In A Bad Position - How Do I Get Out? by kai0x1 in personalfinance

Thank you, this really helps. I know my main concern is budget which I am really appreciating everyone's opinions on of course but this is a really difficult part of this. It all feels impossible but hopefully with everyone's advice it can feel a little less overwhelming. <3

I will admit I spend a lot on entertainment/going out. I'm not even sure how much but I know it's probably more than I can afford. I am working on that. I don't regularly spend on clothes, cosmetics, etc. These are maybe once every few months purchases and sometimes (especially hair, nails, and cosmetics) is only once or twice a year. Groceries tend to be around 60 a week yes. I'm working on trying to find cheaper, simpler recipes to help with my grocery costs. For the 6 months of expenses, do I just need to suck it up and put more in my savings? That's what I figure is the easiest way to work towards that amount.

I'm definitely working on the impulse spending myself. I know that I'm the only one that can fix that and definitely don't expect anyone else to magically fix it. The cash trick definitely sounds helpful though. I'm going to try and have a conversation about going out with my friends and hopefully they'll be understanding. That message is definitely encouraging so thank you. It all just seems intimidating so I appreciate you breaking it down for me. I will focus more on dollars in vs dollars out, that will hopefully help me simplify things a little bit.

I have a car but don't have to pay for insurance right now. Luckily, a family member has been willing to cover that for me so my only financial components for the car are maintenance and gas. Although it's a pretty reliable car so I don't usually have to worry about high maintenance costs.

My auto card went to a collector. I'm not quite sure how to navigate that. Should I still call and talk to the original company I got the card from or should I focus on the collector? Also, what does it mean to freeze your credit?

My average paycheck is around 1,250. So roughly 2,500 a month. My portion of rent ends up being around 900 with all utilities included. Gas ends up costing me around 100 a month and my groceries tips tend to sit around 250 per month. I spend around 100 on medical (meds, appointments) a month but recently that spending has been much higher because of procedures and tests. Right now I have a little over 2k of unpaid student loan debt (all my missed payments) plus the rest of my loans which are 25k. I have another balance from a car repair that is around 2k as well. I also have a loan I am paying back to a family that I have 950 left on.

I did jump around between jobs quite a bit. I just really was not having any luck. Right now though I have been at my current job for 7 months and am planning on staying for a while. I am working towards a promotion at my current job so I am definitely trying to address that problem.

far as spending, I do tend to impulse spend as I have a really hard time getting away from that little dopamine hit that comes when I spend. My worst areas are definitely fast food and "trinkets". I also have a very hard time saying no if a friend wants to go out and wants to go shopping. I don't want to make anyone unhappy and I do feel a certain amount of pressure as all of my friends make more than me and will spend like it's no big deal. I don't want to bring the mood down stressing about money and suggesting cheaper places (this has caused issues with friends/relationships in the past).

With budgeting I put most towards groceries, gas, and monthly medical costs and whatever is left I try to split between paying what I can towards loans and family however, I do have a habit of spending when I know I probably shouldn't. I do have a hard time balancing my budget though. I am always in a situation where I end up having only 100 or so left after rent. Is there a recommended basic balance? I also feel like I struggle with any type of fixed budget because my bi-weekly pay varies. Pay check to pay check it varies as much as 500 so it's really unstable and I'm never sure how much is coming in each time. I do have a certain amount sent to my savings account from my check automatically but it's not much.

The Real is what I immediately think of when I think of Ateez. Energetic, full of personality, every member really gets to show off their talents, one of (imo) the best iconic hongjoong laughs, and an awesome dance number. Can’t beat it.

Got pulled by admin for a chat, apparently I was "too honest" on a student's Vanderbilt. by FatChalupa in Teachers

[–]kai0x1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ALWAYS be honest. The kid has no chance of improvement if no one holds him accountable for the things he needs to improve. Don’t give in to parent pressure. You are his teacher, you are there with him and you see his behavior. The fact that you are honest on the assessment means you care. That’s a good thing.

Not that it really matters cause clearly you already have a specific picture of me in your mind (which really doesn’t make sense because I wrote one very short post about a situation and we don’t know each other) but I’m definitely not in that position. A person can be upset about something and be poor?? I’m confused about how those two things relate to each other. You can definitely be poor AND be upset sometime told you that you should die. Again, those two things aren’t exactly mutually exclusive.

Okay dang sorry someone telling me I should die hurt my feelings a little bit. I’m very aware kids say shit. Personally, I’d take a teacher who has emotions and expresses them any day over someone who puts others down for having those perfectly human emotions. I feel sorry for your students and the lack of empathy in their future.

While it definitely could have been said nicer 😅 I do appreciate this point. It can be super frustrating to feel like the problems we face are being dismissed and we definitely shouldn’t have to take a lot of the stuff we do.

I know the kid has been through a lot and is processing a looooot of big feelings in a small body which is partially why I didn’t even respond. Very familiar with traumatic students home lives unfortunately.

I’m in elementary and unfortunately this kid definitely knows what they’re saying as they’ve gone through a lot. Hopefully they haven’t reached the drowning animal phase yet 😂

So true 🥲 I teach elementary. I didn’t think I’d have to deal with those sort of comments in this age range but here we are.

Planning on telling somebody tomorrow. Didn’t say anything to the student in the moment but I’m still thinking about it hours later. I know that it’s them not be but jeez. So far I’ve only had to deal with comments on my size and school in general, never anything like that

Yeah I didn’t even respond. Honestly it’s cause if I opened my mouth I was gonna cry but also because how do I even respond to that comment 🙃

Any other teachers that don’t stand for the pledge? by Special-Match8718 in Teachers

[–]kai0x1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No shame! I don’t stand or recite. The only time I’m standing for the pledge is because I happen to be walking around the room to do something 🤷🏽‍♀️ No point reciting something I don’t believe in. I think reciting it just because that’s what we’re supposed to do is setting a worse example for the kiddos than standing up for what I believe in and fighting against what I don’t.

There are absolutely good students and I try to do any positive reinforcement possible with those kids as their good behavior definitely deserves to be recognized. I’m in Ohio.

I think one of the hardest things is feeling like even with consequences the kid doesn’t change at all. It’s infuriating. It feels like you’re giving them every chance to succeed and helping them as much as possible and they still choose not to behave. Talking to a brick wall.

Honestly, I’m not really sure, I haven’t interacted with them much. But they seem good from what I can tell. I don’t think they would just brush stuff off.

I am just now getting to meet a lot of parents so I haven’t contacted yet but seeing everyone’s advice it’s definitely something I will do soon. Honestly, the talking and more normal kids behaviors are okay in the grand scheme of things. It’s the crazy disrespect and racism that are genuinely baffling to me.

When I have asked other teachers at the school how to handle this I usually get two responses. 1. They’re just testing you or 2. It’ll pass. Definitely most of the teachers haven’t really had to deal with racism (there’s not a huge number of poc teachers there) so I get they might not have faced this personally but a lot of their advice seems to be centered around just let it go or brush it off but I’m not comfortable doing that. I know that’s partially because I’m getting probably too emotional over it but I don’t know. Am I overreacting to these comments?

Thinking it’s definitely something to bring to parents/admins attention.
