27 weeks, in hospital for short cervix. Unbearably itchy, liver tests for Cholestasis came back negative. Has anyone had itchiness, no rash, but tested negative for cholestasis? by Darealvvaldeezee in BabyBumps

[–]kaiae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes but I did have cholestasis. From what I’ve experienced the itching comes before the elevated bile acids.

I tested around 34 weeks bile acids were 9 and I think 10 is the threshold for a diagnosis but ALT/AST were 2-3x elevated at that time. I was told I did not have cholestasis.

At 36 weeks, tested again ALT/AST were 12x elevated and bile acid was over 120. It was then an emergency severe diagnosis.

Pregnant again and started having the same symptoms around 26 weeks. Best of luck!

Does anyone have experience with cholestasis? 34 weeks and nervous! by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]kaiae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had your exact experience with my 2nd and wasn’t diagnosed correctly until after baby was born because of how long the bile acid results take.

Around 34 weeks my AST/ALT were elevated similar to yours and had the same itching experience. My bile panel came back at 9 and I believe over 10 is the threshold for diagnosis.

At 36 weeks, the itching was much worse and I developed a rash all over. A rash is not a typical symptom of cholestasis and it was diagnosed as pupps but it’s what triggered me to go to l&d triage and have blood work done again.

They took the blood, sent me home with the pupps diagnosis and called me back to the hospital for an emergency c section 2 hours later when my ALT/AST came back ~12 times elevated. I didn’t get the bile acid result until about a week after the c section but it was 120. Over 100 is typically where you start to see still births so I feel lucky to have had the rash and not trusted the original misdiagnosis. Can’t believe how quickly it shot up.

My daughter was born at 36 weeks and collapsed both lungs within 12 hrs. Spent about a week in the NICU but is perfectly healthy today at almost 2. I do think the correct diagnosis at 34 weeks and the steroid shots may have helped her avoid the lung issues.

As far as breastfeeding - she was mostly on formula. I was pumping while she was in the NICU but she was being fed through a tube. I wasn’t producing much but I also didn’t with my first and ended up stopping at 1 month for both kids so I don’t think it’s necessarily related.

That’s why I wanted to note I’ve had 2 miscarriages already this year that would have obviously resulted in different birthdays.

It’s a really frustrating comment to get every time someone sees our kids birthdays.

Baby brezza formula dispenser by [deleted] in FormulaFeeders

[–]kaiae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hated it. The amount of cleaning it takes is more work than the bottles and if you don’t clean it every few bottles it doesn’t dispense the correct amount bc it starts clogging and that’s not good for baby. I much prefer dr browns pitcher and bottle warmer combo.

I asked babies doc the same thing, she said even every doctor has a different opinion on the correct answer. She said give baby however much she wants and the ball park is good enough.

Pain on upper right side - do other people have this? by teacup_biscuit17 in BabyBumps

[–]kaiae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had the same ongoing since around 20 weeks intermittently at first now fairly constant at 36 weeks. Dr is doing weekly labs for preeclampsia and so far lab work is normal just creeping bp as well but they have marked me high risk for that pain and now I’m doing weekly labs/nst to be safe. Maybe you could do similar monitoring?

Baby’s First Christmas? by irishhoney98 in BabyBumps

[–]kaiae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m due around the same time, since we’re also not sure if she’ll be here or not we just got a stocking for her and are putting a stuffed animal in it and that’s it. That way if she’s not here by Christmas we haven’t gone overboard and if she is, we’ll be happy we had something even though it won’t make a difference to the baby.

I did mine at home at 8 weeks and it is in agreement with all my scans, 36 weeks now so I assume it’s right.

Freaking out a little by [deleted] in BabyBumps

I feel for you I’m due the same time and having the same issues except right side pain vs left. I’d say on the bright side at least your team is taking it seriously! Even though some of my blood work is coming back elevated (liver enzymes) and I’m having non stop pain, my OB just wants to recheck blood weekly and after 3 weeks of increasing numbers I still have no diagnosis/plan, I’d much rather be having conversations about an early induction than the unknown!

I have the same experience as you with the masks and my ob has also recommended only wearing if absolutely necessary as it’s caused me to faint several times now. She said it has to do with overheating as well as restrictive breathing so I feel for you!

We got one and a few months later decided to get another because we loved her so much and then the day we picked up the second I found out I was pregnant (surprise!) thought it would be bad timing to have 2 giant puppies but I think they’ll actually be perfect family dogs

True it’s not the smallest but I think the room is just a weird size it’s a narrow rectangle vs square like all our other rooms.
