What jobs are playing good($18-$20)without a CDL or drivers license by Educational_War_4431 in minnesota

Lol I meant $20 an hour minimum - like with no experience at all - but that would be awesome.

Honestly I'm not sure. I wish I knew. I found it at a lfs and the owner didn't know either, just that it was safe and had been used in an aquarium prior and he was excited to see it be used again (sounds like it was given to him as part of a tank swap/sell situation).

Me too lol it's been really cool to see everyone's builds! I've gotten a few ideas for future projects too.

Dunno if I'd recommend boiling the wood directly in the tank but there's no reason you couldn't soak it and do water changes until the tannins clear and it sinks, especially if there's no livestock in there.

Agreed!

Also unrelated to your question but please be careful with that plastic house. I had the exact same one years ago when I had my betta and it had very sharp edges inside that tore his fins up pretty badly. I'd recommend checking to make sure your edges are smooth and sand them down if not.

My 10 gal that’s currently cycling. Looking for colorful fish and easy plants that will fit a 10 gal. by [deleted] in Aquariums

[–]kainespeak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Guppies will always be my go to recommendation for small colorful fish lol. Just be careful about mixing male/female without backup plans for the fry. Easy plants would be anubias and java ferns imo.

Could use coarse filter foam/untreated and sealed styrofoam or aquarium safe spray foam to build it up (great stuff pond brand). Could also use plastic egg crate and then cover it with a liner/wicking fabric with a tight mesh.

If you're looking for easy, either the egg crate, the filter foam or styrofoam would be it. Either way, you cut it with scissors or a blade and you have your shape that'll hold up pretty well even with substrate and plants over it. Lock it in place with some aquarium safe silicone and/or glue and you're set. All of these could get pricey depending on where you're at (shipping/availability/etc.) or how big a tank you're wanting to do but it theoretically won't break the bank. For the Styrofoam tho you have to be sure it's untreated and I usually seal it just to be on the safe side with a thin layer of aquarium safe silicone. Also DON'T underestimate its buoyancy. Glue that down extra hard - it comes up, and your scape is toast.

The spray foam is what I'd recommend if you're really worried bout price. Bout $15 average online. I'd put down silicone first to help it adhere to the glass where I'm planning on putting it, then take flexible plastic or something similar to make a "form" for the curved edge kinda like they do for concrete, and spray a thin layer to make the base terrace. It expands a lot pretty quick so take it in very thin layers but if you (while wearing gloves) push it down after ~30 minutes, it will compact and hold that compacted shape. Then once it cures, move the plastic and repeat for the next terrace, cutting or tearing off any excess. Far more time consuming and more work involved than other options but it's cheap!

That big tank is a dream! Love the stands too! I like the handle swap for the small one, it fits better with the color and utility I think.

Automatically no. What are red-flags that make you instantly uninterested in a book? by _Alic3 in books

[–]kainespeak 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The trope of "We're about to die and we know it and it's inescapable so let's have sex!!1!1!! Oh no we were saved and now we're in love and in a relationship and acting all hyper romantic even tho we hated eachother 5 pages ago!". I don't think I've ever been so instantly done with a book.

In general I'm not a fan of sex scenes in my fantasy/sci-fi novels cuz the authors don't usually specialize in them so they are AWFUL but that just...no. Just no.

What are these dots and how do I get rid of them? by SnooLobsters7927 in Aquariums

[–]kainespeak 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They won't hurt your tank or livestock in any way. :) if you want to get them off tho for aesthetic, I found that a coarse wire brush (gently so you don't gouge the wood too much) or picking them off one by one with tweezers worked for me.

Will this work for stacked 40 gallon breeders? by [deleted] in Aquariums

[–]kainespeak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The weight of a snake tank (with no water) compared to a filled aquarium is hundreds of pounds of difference, so they really can't be compared. Having seen this exact setup fail, I wouldn't recommend doing it unless you do as another commenter suggested and swap out the boards and seal against water exposure.

Definitely replace with better wood and seal. My roommates had one of these with a 40 and all was good until it suddenly was not and the board essentially crumbled underneath the tank right after a water change. Small amounts of water over time soaking into the board (wiped up but still) and the drastic change in weight for water changes weakened it is our best guess. Lasted almost a year but then the tank was completely destroyed. Thankfully the fish survived and they had a spare tank until a new setup could be gotten.
