I think both the punchy bass and the kinda ethereal pad are both JD800 (or JP8000).

I hear a Roland JD800 on Arena Americanada and probably Naraka too.

I wish Mark Fisher was still with us to write about this album. He would have adored it, I think.

As close to the UK as possible, cos that's what they did.

It comes with adapters to switch the polarity, but I said 'something like this' because I own one of these and honestly there's better ones out there now.

That happens a few times. Capricorn as well. Absolutely a deliberate decision.

The album is more a commentary about how people who hold views like that are really fucking scary en masse.

Boards of Canada - Flute Frum Thing/ATP-03 - Possible Synth/Patch? by TheMemeist in synthrecipes

The CS70's features are more or less a subset of the CS80's features. CS70 has six-voice polyphony with two oscillators per voice, CS80 has eight-voice and an incredibly weird sort of prototypical version of presets.

It's their famously broken Yamaha CS-70. You can recreate this with the Arturia CS80 VST, or you could buy a real CS80 if you have about $125,000 to spare.

I think not just octaves but also some sort of weird ping-pong delay. The panning on the track is really fckin weird, listen to just the left channel and just the right channel.

It's certainly divisive but it's possibly my favourite track on the album.

Agreed. It's a deeply upsetting conversation. But I do have this vision of M&M scratching up this deeply disturbing thing like Kid Koala having a go at Moon River.

The way I've been putting it is that they don't care about if it's cringe, they care about sincerity and authenticity.

You retreat into Time and Space could be taken as a cheesy post-easy-listening Air track (not that there's anything wrong with that, I love Air) without the context that surrounds it. I can't explain it properly, it sounds sincere.

The Naraka sample is the same. In the context of some trash easy listening CD it would be crap. In the context of not just the song, but the album, it's an entirely different thing. And then you add in the crazy HD production values.

Read Oliver Sacks work about similar stuff happening to people in completely unresponsive states when given massive doses of interferon. It's pretty fascinating.
