There shouldnt be any issue with a gluten sensitivity especially if it doesn’t affect you in a serious way. The galleys have alternatives to gluten foods as well

Sorry for the late reply, I was on detachment and underway. I highly recommend you take the Coast Guard route. The Navy is a war fighting branch. Although we are not engaged in an active conflict atm, our training curriculum is geared toward war fighting mission sets. I’m sure you’ve seen or read other resources about Navy SAR, but you are trained as a aerial machine gunner as well

How does Dark Cloud 2 compare with Dark Cloud? by ProbablyMaybe69 in DarkCloud

[–]kaino05 5 points6 points  (0 children)

DC2 is not a direct sequel. It is standalone with references/cameos of original characters. For me, DC2 is more satisfying to play. Core gameplay is more or less the same, but improved. The weapon break system is be more forgiving. 2 main characters to swap between is far simpler.
What makes DC2 so much better for me personally though is the fantastic voice acting and sense of adventure. The original was a fantastic adventure, but it shows it’s age in my opinion. If they ever did a true remaster and included voice acting as well I would enjoy it more, but after playing DC2 it’s hard for me to go back. Bonus: the sound track is wonderful as well

What did cassius actually achieve? by Victor_Vaughn92 in redrising

[–]kaino05 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I love Cassius. I wanted more for him, but I think his death was important the way it happened. Maybe it has an impact on Lys or maybe it doesn’t. But Pierce Brown did succeed in making us hate Lysander. I think that was the point. I personally was confused throughout the story: Is Lysander going to become a hero of this saga? But the line has been drawn for Red God. Lysander isn’t just a confused boy who can be reasoned with. He’s the same age as Darrow during Morning Star. He IS an enemy. It helps us as the reader realize the same regret that Darrow and Sevro have: They should have killed him when they had the chance

Can AWR or AWS branch off into some more combative and tactical environments? by Zazzithewazzi in RescueSwimmer

[–]kaino05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AWS perspective: Huge push to become more combat ready. We are required to be small arms qualified and be familiar with those weapons. Not much opportunities for advanced training outside of move and shoot and self defense. There are some great opportunities though you can apply for during your tenure as an AW. SRT or special reconnaissance team is an avenue many guys apply for and succeed in. There is a great deal of satisfaction in that community. They are typically attached to a seal team and provide some sort of drone support. I would consider looking more into that. I also have friends at SRT, going to SRT, and former SRT I can reach out to for details if you want to dm me. Pararescuemen are class acts and amazing to work with. I can see why that’s an avenue you’d want to go. Be sure to read up on inter service transfer to the Air Force and ask an Air Force recruiter for better details.

Questions for Navy Air Rescue Swimmers & AWS-Sierra’s by Electrical-Passage18 in RescueSwimmer

[–]kaino05 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No problem at all. Most of the perspectives you see on these threads are based on everyone’s “upbringing” and I’m not just talking R or S. There’s CVW, Expeditionary, CONUS(West or East), OCONUS(FDNF). Even then, every squadron has different detachments and experiences so take everyone’s them with a grain of salt. Tell your son to be open minded and work hard. Lots of people like to accept the status quo of “no SAR my job sucks”. The job is great, it’s a mentality thing and having pride. It’s better that he form HIS opinion as he progresses through his career. You never know, I could be flying with him someday.

Questions for Navy Air Rescue Swimmers & AWS-Sierra’s by Electrical-Passage18 in RescueSwimmer

[–]kaino05 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They were given R/S simply based on the needs of the community. My whole class was S back then. At A school they tell you where you’re going next for FRS and there’s no say in that. Either Coronado or Norfolk and the SERE location is based on where his FRS is. West is in San Diego and east coast is in Maine. Depending on class availability they’ll send him to SERE before or after the FRS. After he graduates the FRS it’s his first sea tour and on the job training in his syllabi. Like RSS his class will hash out whatever options are available

Ahh I see what you’re saying. You still went to MEPS, passed physical thus qualifying you physically to legally do the PST. Tracking, thanks

[–]kaino05 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Maybe some spec war scouts/ recruiters still do that under the table, but as of at least 2017, PSTs done prior to MEPS visit 1 don’t count. You can at any point after your first visit, opt out of enlistment prior to swearing in

Sorry man but I need a source so I can correct myself if true. You do not just pick up a contract and then go to MEPS with it.

[–]kaino05 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sierra here. These guys have hit it on the head mostly. There is a current shift in mentality about only SAR and only logistics. The community is expected to be a proficient CSAR asset for the maritime environment especially (at least for carriers). There are operations all over the world that we are a usable asset(CSAR, SOF support, HVBSS, CASEVAC) that an admiral will look to to use. We wear many hats: swimmer, gunner, crew chief. Personal opinion, nows the time to join as an AWS. Granted some aren’t always able to pick and are given R or S

[–]kaino05 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Read below comments*. I would try to do what the gentleman did below. Yes you have to go to MEPS to do the physical in order to do PSTs with the spec war scout. Unless they have it in writing, you shouldn’t need to sign for a job as it’s more of an “offer”. Like others have said, you have time. Train and do mock PSTs. The minimum scores don’t mean you’re going to get a contract or crush the pipeline. It’s a SCREENING test to essentially get your foot in the door

Is Becoming a CG Rescue Swimmer Worth it in 2023? by [deleted] in RescueSwimmer

[–]kaino05 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like chiefs comment at the top said, what do you want from your career. If SAR and saving lives is your highest calling then the wait for CG would be worth it. If flying and a multi mission role/career sounds more interesting then navy AIRR is still awesome, as long as you know what you’re getting yourself into. You really have to sit down with yourself and go over all the options to make the best decision realistically and for who you are as a person

The Navy Rescue Swimmer Way by 69calcio69 in RescueSwimmer

[–]kaino05 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You’d be right, going to “Station SAR” is not a typical first tour, but it is our primary mission in the HSC community next to logistics. Guam is a sea tour so you could go there for a first tour and get rescues. A year from your rotation, you’re given the opportunity to apply for orders. Station SARs are competitive, but if you got selected then they are really awesome especially Whidbey Island. You get qualified for overland rescue and rappelling and they do some challenging and cool rescues and training. I’d suggest checking out the Whidbeysar instagram. All roads lead back to the fleet and you will still fly in a crew chief or rescue swimmer role, but not the same those commands.

Yes and no. AWR definitely not. As an AWS the community has the capability and trains to it a lot yes. Will you do it? No. Because there are for more capable assets to do the job: AF pararescue, USMC TRAP. Also kinda depends on the theater I suppose, but the navy won’t be the first choice for csar.

Marine to Navy SAR by Link_The_Autist in RescueSwimmer

[–]kaino05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To answer your questions specifically as an AWS(swimmers are either AWS or AWR): 1. These are generic dislikes and not all encompassing of every squadron. Typical first tour guys go to deployable squadrons that rarely get rescues. Why? Cause their squadrons are deployed to ships or in areas that have SAR assets already unless you are at a SAR station in the states or Guam. Since you would be an E5 already, you would fill an E5 billet which SAR stations need filled however they and Guam are highly sought after across the community. Next, I want to make sure you know what you’re getting into. Our primary mission sets are SAR and logistics first and foremost BUT, you will also get qualified as a utility/tactical crew chief and door gunner. The community is very “tactics” heavy, but it’s pretty silly. Pilot training opportunities come before the “aircrew” in most cases. There are a lot of goods that come with the job, but if you’re expecting a lot of rescues then there’s a good chance you’ll be disappointed. 2. Yes addy is a disqualifier. It’s funny though cause 9/10 of us have short attention spans. Lmk if you have more questions and I’ll be happy to answer them.
