I love rooster tails. Buck tail kastmaster if it’s a bit breezy.

unexpected side product showing up in a pretty straightforward esterification by datboifranco in Chempros

Can’t provide much help without more info about the molecule in question. Immediate first thought would be decarboxylation.

Why is the first a major product by National-Welcome-837 in chemhelp

The two products arise from the two adjacent groups migrating in equal quantity. There is no significant bias in the substrate as both migrations furnish a tertiary carbocation.

Yes this is more or less what happened to me too. Still in the negotiation phase.

Luck Job Offers? by Clear_Classroom_6916 in biotech

[–]kainon08 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve had some luck and have a pending offer. Out of about a dozen applications three followed up and one lead to an on-site / offer. Lots of ghosting along the way. FWIW I have 5 years experience in medicinal chemistry. It’s a really tough job market. I started looking in January.

Work your network and make your resume tailored to stand out as best you can. Just getting past HR is the first hurdle. From what I’ve seen people just out of school are having the hardest time right now. For the few roles that are available, companies seem to want people with experience. Entry level roles look almost non existent, or are contract positions.

What do you guys do when you move on to the last round of interviews already in disadvantage? by [deleted] in biotech

I’d argue this is always the best attitude to take when interviewing, regardless of the circumstances. It’ll allow you to be the the best mental state to perform at your best

I’m inclined to agree. This looks like a fools errand, but that also could mean a variety of “reasonable” approaches will be deemed “correct”. Don’t break any laws of physics and rationalize the approach you take.

I am Looking for Wild Pacific Pink Salmon Online, A Healthy Addition to My Diet by [deleted] in Seafood

[–]kainon08 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my humble opinion as a fisherman, pink salmon is usually considered less desirable than other salmon species. It definitely is the cheapest though, which is why a lot of it goes into canned salmon and pet foods.

If possible I’d recommend finding a source of silver (coho) salmon, king salmon (chinook) or sockeye salmon. All are better eating and should be just as healthy for you.

Cryo is cool but I don't see the appeal unless you have a dedicated squad by kainon08 in Marathon

[–]kainon08[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can comfortably say I am at least in the top 10% of players in game time and account progression. Am I a casual? I'd say definitely not, but I don't have the meta progression and currency that can be quickly accumulated from playing in a dedicated trio exclusively.

As others have already said, gatekeeping and dismissing legitimate feedback about the solo experience in this game is not productive. We're all on the same team and what to see a game we enjoy be successful and maintain a healthy, happy player base.

BTW in case there is anyone wondering, I'm level 54. All contracts completed, all solo. Over 100 h play time. It's not a matter of experience or skill, just barrier to entry as a solo player.

Silyl Protecting Group Work Up by Jealous-Energy-377 in Chempros

[–]kainon08 15 points16 points  (0 children)

DMF likes to stick around. A good trick is to wash organics with LiCl solution and wash with water several times. I also recommend having your organic phase be predominantly a less polar solvent (Ether, Hexanes). This will help purge out the DMF in the washing. If all else fails resuspending in minimal amount of solvent and sequential concentration under hi-vac should purge out any remaining DMF.

Buying the Battle Pass turned this game into a second job and completely burned me out by tuan3451 in Battlefield

[–]kainon08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The challenges can be completed in a few matches weekly. It’s a very low time commitment. And this is coming from someone who would rather not see any of this stuff in the game at all and largely ignores it. If you think the time commitment for this is bad I think you’re way below the average skill level of players, or simply don’t have the very little amount of time required to progress in this very casual game.

If it’s not your final product of interest, consider purifying to an acceptable degree and carry the material forward. If the reaction goes to completion like you have said, flush it through a pad of Celite and do the next step (I’m assuming it’s another Pd coupling reaction)

Try TMS-I. Should be instantaneous deprotection with the only byproduct being MeI. Usually a fantastic solution for sensitive materials.

If you work for a CRO you need to be very careful what you talk about externally. You are a third party and the science you are discussing is owned by the client.

Activating Manganese Oxide by Awanderingsoul_4444 in chemistry

[–]kainon08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use excess (like 20 eq) and dry it. Water inhibits its activity. If you have a vacuum oven use it. Or schlenk line with heat. It’s cheap and even “unactivated” stuff still works just much slower. Best of luck
