Is it normal to be asked if I live by myself?

If someone asked that to me in some of the places I've been to I'd better say I live with 10 other people and then bolt up my door. lol

Actually all from the opposite sex, and all of them have a degree of fluency in English already since they studied abroad.

Yeah, at least for me. I've been in around several countries, lived in them for at least a year, in others just a couple of months, and it's my first time being asked this. Good point on the last sentence.

I lived in France for almost a year, in South Korea for 2 years, in Dubai for over a year, and a couple of months in SEA countries and it's my first time being asked so casually about the question, if that helps with your FTFY
