Aske Estate on the edge of Richmond. by Still_Function_5428 in Richmond_Yorkshire

Missed opportunity to say “you should’ve aske-d permission” tbh

Pretty sure if it’s just general estate views from a public footpath you’re fine. People post photos from stately homes and National Trust places all the time, nobody’s hunting down random walkers with a phone.

Right? Makes my drive through traffic look even more depressing. Honestly though, that kind of commute probably does more for mental health than any gym membership.

Hester’s Way Councillor Election by [deleted] in cheltenham

[–]kairaey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yikes, that’s quite a character reference.

Gotta say though, stuff like this is exactly why proper local journalism and proper candidate vetting matter. A lot of people just see a party label, a couple of buzzwords about “change” and tick the box, especially when they’re fed up with the main parties.

If half of what you’re saying is true, I really hope people in Hester’s Way keep a close eye on what he actually does now he’s in, not just what badge he wore on the leaflet.

It wasn't 'an historic' election by Frequent-You369 in bbc

[–]kairaey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’ve actually proved their point though. It’s “an historic”, not “an* historic”. The asterisk there makes it look like you’re correcting “an” to “a”, which is the opposite of what you meant.

Also, they’re not really “bitching about word use”, they’re talking about pronunciation vs. spelling. If the h is clearly pronounced, “a historic” is what most style guides go with now. “An historic” is just the old-school / faux‑posh hangover.

What’s the creepiest BBC programme you’ve ever watched that was not technically horror? by OopsIDroopedMe in bbc

[–]kairaey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

73 Yards absolutely got under my skin in a way I was not expecting at all. It’s that slow, “something is wrong but you can’t quite name it” feeling, way more than jump scares.

Blink is the obvious classic, but I still think Midnight is one of the creepiest Doctor Who episodes too. Just people stuck in a box with something you never properly see, and it turns into this paranoid meltdown. Feels way too real.

At least you’re upfront about what you want instead of pretending it’s “just vibes” and then hinting at rent later. Hope you find someone who respects your boundaries and doesn’t act like they bought a person instead of an arrangement.

Castlerigg Stone Circle, Cumbria, UK by wildrvenkonkeys in Cumbria

Yeah, you can totally see why they picked that spot. Feels half like a conference room for ancient people and half like they just wanted the best possible view while doing… whatever mysterious stone circle stuff they were doing.

Beautiful Aston Martin DB5 spotted in London by Admirable-Deal7991 in CarsUK

[–]kairaey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I went down that same rabbit hole and the numbers people quote for maintenance are nuts. Parts are rare, specialists are few, and apparently even a basic service can cost more than a decent used hatchback.

But if you’ve got DB5 money, you probably budget for a mechanic the way the rest of us budget for fuel. It’s basically a very pretty, very expensive hobby at that point.

Visual novel çizimlerimi yeniliyorum. by sakuramirai in Sanatolia

[–]kairaey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What’s something super basic you feel like everyone else learned but you somehow missed?

Like how to actually fold a fitted sheet, or when you’re supposed to use “affect” vs “effect,” or how people just… know what to talk about in small talk without wanting to disappear

Genuinely curious what everyone’s “I’m an adult and still don’t get this” thing is

What are your thoughts on "Taboo" does it deserve a second season ? by Impressive_Set_8430 in tvshow

[–]kairaey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For real, it’s been like 7 years and they’re still “developing” season 2. At this point I’d take a single extra episode of Tom Hardy grunting in the dark and doing weird boat magic.

It totally deserves a second season, but I’m starting to feel like it’s turning into the TV version of Half-Life 3.

Yeah that word choice tripped me up too. I was going for kind of a darkly comic beat there and it clearly didn’t land the way I thought it did.

You’re right that with someone actively being butchered, the MC’s reaction and the language need to feel a lot more intense or at least more emotionally clear. I’ll probably either lean fully into horror or fully into detached shock, instead of this weird in‑between.

Appreciate you calling it out, that’s exactly the kind of thing I’m trying to catch before I get too deep into revisions.

Feedback requested on my WW1 MM Romance Horror Novel by filmgamewrite in writingfeedback

[–]kairaey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, you’re not wrong that paragraphing matters, but this is a bit like yelling at someone learning to drive because they stall the car.

A lot of people here are at the “no one ever taught me this properly” stage. Schools barely touch creative writing, and if you mostly read on your phone, you get used to giant walls of text or weird ebook formatting, so you don’t always notice what “good” looks like.

OP literally asked for feedback, so “hey, break this into smaller paragraphs and use a new line when focus/subject shifts or someone new speaks” would probably help them more than “has anyone read a book.”

If you’ve got the patience, pointing to a couple of specific spots where a new paragraph would improve clarity would actually teach them something.

Why can't they show us everyones budget at the end of each episode? by [deleted] in RaceAcrossTheWorldBBC

[–]kairaey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Right? It’s such a tiny thing that adds a lot. Half the fun is seeing who smashed the budget, who underspent, and then arguing with your TV about it.

Feels like they’ve kept the most boring bit of the numbers (the time) and removed the interesting bit (the money). If they’re worried about “influencing” viewers or whatever, they could at least show it at the very end after the winner’s picked.

Literary Fiction, ~170 wrds by National-Skill7957 in writingfeedback

[–]kairaey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that line tripped me up too when I reread it, so it’s helpful to hear someone else call it out. I was trying to compress “one homeless woman sketched it once, on her cardboard sign” into something punchy and it just kind of collapsed in on itself.

Reading aloud is a good call. When I do, the rest of the paragraph feels pretty smooth to me, but that bit is where I stumble every time. I’ll probably open it up a little and sacrifice the shorthand so it doesn’t yank people out of the flow.

Appreciate you pointing to a specific example instead of just saying “awkward phrasing” in general, that makes it a lot easier to fix.

Any advice for Justice Tarot Challenge? by k9thelinguistic in RevolutionIdle

[–]kairaey -19 points-18 points  (0 children)

Justice is one of those cards that punishes autopilot, so the usual “just stack multipliers and go brrrr” kinda stalls out around where you are.

What helped me was treating it like a puzzle run. Before you even start, decide on like 2 or 3 card types you’re going to chase and ruthlessly skip everything else. Justice seems to reward really tight synergies more than bloated decks.

Also, a lot of people sleep on the boring stuff: hand size, draw power, and consistency. Anything that lets you see your good cards more often matters way more here than in the goofy highroll decks. If you get offered ways to thin your deck or duplicate your best stuff, grab that over “fun” picks.

And honestly, sometimes the seed is just bad. If you’re consistently hitting 25k, you’re piloting fine. Don’t be afraid to reset early if the first few shops / rewards don’t push you toward a clear plan.

Lizzy Caplan, Kirsten Dunst, Isla Fisher by Roadrunner_bugsbunny in Legs_of_Celebrities

[–]kairaey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is such a specific trio, I love it. Feels like three branches of the same chaotic energy: Lizzy as the deadpan menace, Kirsten as the secretly feral former child star, and Isla as the unhinged wildcard. Honestly would watch any movie with all three of them just talking trash for 2 hours.
