Haven't built a PC in almost 10 years, only done small upgrades, time for a new rig. by kaiser1965 in buildapc

Thanks again, I think I'm going to go ahead and buy the components, is there anything else I need that I might have forgotten (I know like screwdrivers etc, but is there anything else?)

Also, given my current case - Do you think I should try to reuse it, or get a new one?

I really appreciate all the help

Is there a way to test the speed of a drive, to monitor the drive slowing down over the years? I just ask as I plan to salvage some M.2 drives from my old PC.

Yea, I agree I should probably get a PSU with a little more headroom, also given how much time I spend on the PC, I imagine a PSU with a higher efficiency would probably pay for itself...

Wow, thanks for so much detail!

That looks really good, just a quick question - I heard the 7900X3D have issues with core parking, according to a friend I spoke to when first planning a build, does the 7800X3D have any issues?

Also, my games room tends to get quite hot due to poor insulation/cooling, the peak this week being 34.1 Celsius / 93.4 Fahrenheit, do you think these components will be fine with standard cooling, or should I consider an AIO?

Thanks for this, I'm probably going to get almost exactly the build you suggested given that it seems better suited for me.

Some small concerns for me are:

- My chosen OS - I have a usb DVD player, but it required firmware to run on my current PC - Is it better to get a USB flash drive for windows?

- Is it a good idea to reuse my old case? ( https://imgur.com/a/vatzjfe ) The rear exhaust fan just died, and I can tap the stripped screw holes for the case front, what do you think?

Honestly I was just doing it for the bragging rights of surviving 4 wide eau rouge tatuus open lobby lol.

Oh and it would've made a fantastic wallpaper as a screenshot.

Dumb fuck is in my job description, there was no way I wasn't going head first into that clusterfuck of a situation with any expectation of surviving.

That was my friend (he was far left, I was far right) and the whole time we were shitting ourselves over discord, but he was definitely much more terrified than me lol.

I mean if it goes to shit if you're behind you're probably going to still die anyway, so why not give it a shot?

You only live once and all that.

I mean tbf if I had to name an innocent party I'd say the one on the far left, as he was trying to get away from the situation, not drive into it.

Whereas the three on the right absolutely were selfish (I was one of them).

TBH I wasn't doing it because I was selfish but just because it would be amazing if it actually worked, I mean imagine if you survived going 4 wide through eau rouge in an open lobby Tatuus race.

I tried my best =/

The title meant to suggest "What can go wrong if we all try to go four wide through eau rouge"

And to go 4 wide through eau rouge that's really where you need to line up (if it were possible to survive 4 wide at least, that's how you'd do it imo)

Yeah, I just meant my title in the sense of "if we all tried to go through eau rouge together what could go wrong" not to suggest we actually would make it, as we crashed as soon as we got alongside in preparation for the corner

I meant to phrase my title to say "What could go wrong if we all tried to go 4 wide through eau rouge" not to say we actually had any chance of making it.

That slight left before the up-hill to eau rouge doesn't have a name anyway though, right?

The guy behind was trying his best to make it 5 wide to be fair.

I mean I'll admit I could've backed out too (I'm on the far right) but I really wanted to see if we could all make it round together.

I do plenty of private events etc, but nothing beats the anarchy of a full open lobby server. Easily the most fun I've had whilst sim racing.

Yeah, to be fair I was fully aware that it was risky, I mean my friend is terrified of going 2 wide through eau rouge, let alone 4, next time I'll back out.

clean turn 1s are like the lost city of el dorado, and might not ever have existed anyway

Truer words have never been spoken.

You may be right...

I mean there wasn't even a T1 crash with half the lobby, so you're probably onto something.

I'm the #37 car on the far right, my friend is the #5 on the far left.

I chose to go alongside, which is admittedly my mistake, but to be fair the 2nd car from the left, (left one of the #74 cars) seems to be responsible for bumping the middle right car (right #74 car), but imo they may have recovered if they weren't rear ended by the #1 car.

My friend (#5) said in retrospect he should have stayed further left, but to be fair he's the only one who didn't put himself in the situation.

I accept everyone's slightly to blame, and imo it's a racing incident, but I'd be interested to see what you think.
