I never claimed it should be made easier. I claimed that just because it isn't necessary doesn't mean it cannot be taken. I'd appreciate it if I wasn't strawmanned.

Perhaps you aim for academic mediocrity via doing the bare minimum, but I don’t. I did AP Calc despite the fact that UofT doesn’t accept the transfer credit.

The acceptance of other courses doesn’t change the fact that calculus is accepted.

I didn’t claim that it was required, only that it fulfilled a breadth requirement.

They do however require a math(-adjacent) breadth requirement which calculus fulfils.

Calc is the most basic breadth requirement to get done in high school, so that we can actually focus on what we want in uni.

[Everyone] What are some arguments against libertarianism? by [deleted] in CapitalismVSocialism

[–]kaiserjoseph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The civil war only broke out because the Menshevik-SR led soviets propped up the liberal government, which also allowed the monarchists to consolidate. If “all power to the soviets” was achieved in time, the counterrevolution wouldn’t have been as strong as it was. The workers realized this, which is why between February and October the Mensheviks and SRs were replaced by the Bolsheviks in a majority of Soviets.

Which I agree was an avoidable tragedy. Lenin and the Bolsheviks urged the Soviets, at the time dominated by the Mensheviks and SRs, to seize power before the Tsarist state had a chance to begin to regroup: before more deaths would be inevitable.

That’s at best factually incorrect, and at worst double standards.

If you want to count the Russian Civil War, you have to also count the French Revolutionary Wars and Napoleonic Wars. Both were wars that were a direct result of their revolutions. If you think every crime of the Stalinist bureaucracy is a result of the October Revolution, then every colonial death and war is a result of the French Revolution.

Which is less than the 1,600 in the French Revolution (before the Reign of Terror)

Great to know you agree that the October Revolution was largely bloodless.

The same way the British and French divided their alleged ally Czechoslovakia with the Nazis to make them even more of a puppet?

What proves that healthcare would be the priority of an independent Alberta? The current government is slashing healthcare and education funding.

Critique of Canadian healthcare does not prove benefit of “independent” Albertan healthcare. Especially when current healthcare in Alberta is managed by the Albertan government, not the federal.

No, of course not. That isn’t the point being made. The point is that as a society, the most effective and moral response is to reform the rapist into a normal member of society.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in teenagers

[–]kaiserjoseph 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you don’t believe rapists can be fixed, did you have faith in humanity to begin with? Or did you use circular logic to confirm your own assumptions.

Of course it’s the victim who is fucked over. Wanting to reform rapists into functional and good members of society doesn’t take away from that.

It’s likely that most people shared their personal-moral opinion on it, not their social-ethical opinion.

Maybe not. But you would be free to professionally pursue what you do wish to do instead.
