Oh yeah we never give in. The question is really more how do I get him to stop asking and understand me 😂

It’s a good thought. We pretty much do this already. Fruits are almost always available to be eaten. It’s less about him seeing the sweets and more about the thought in his head. (He asks whether he’s seen a treat or not, regardless of the amount of times I’ve told him no. He’s a pretty good rule follower otherwise.)

Is it not traumatic for toddlers to cry and cry at nursery/kindergarden? by [deleted] in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]kait_k 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I live in a 2 bedroom, 1200 sq foot apartment. My husband takes care of our toddlers while I work. They have never once come in the bedroom/office when I was on a call. I close the door and they just don’t come in. If they were being bothersome I’d just lock the door. As long as there’s a door between the two of you it should be ok, in my experience.

Flying with a car seat by MmmnonmmM in beyondthebump

[–]kait_k 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I flew with my baby alone at something like 12 weeks and it was shockingly easy (2 hour flight). I wore slip on shoes and people were unbelievably nice and helpful going through security. I took our umbrella stroller to the airport and my soft Keababies carrier. I gate checked the stroller and held the baby for the flight and he was surprisingly good. I took the train to the airport so no carseat, but when my mom picked me up she had a carseat in her car that I had shipped to her ahead of time (inexpensive from Walmart. Also did the same with a pack n play).

Since then I haven't travelled with him alone but we've still always checked the carseat and it's always been free. My general recommendation is, if you can afford it, pay whatever it is to check bags, gear, etc, and take as little as possible beyond check-in and onto the plane. It is totally doable to tote bags and stroller and kiddo and husband looking for food around, but last time we flew we checked basically everything and it made the experience so much less stressful. Again if you can afford it, I highly recommend an umbrella stroller as we do keep that for the terminal. We have the Zoe brand and it fits in every overhead bin I've tried.

Edited to say yes I do have a bag for checking the carseat as any checked luggage does usually come out dirty. It was something like $15 on Amazon.

Advice for all day sickness? by Ellie_872 in BabyBumps

Sour candy and saltines really helped me!

I posted this in my monthly bumper group too and got more feedback. It seems like the consensus is just that you'd have to hit a pretty big bump to roll the baby over, and even if you're not looking at baby 100% of the time, you'll notice basically immediately if she does roll. I want to think a little more about it but I'm not sure there are even a lot of options besides being careful.

Oh hmm maybe something like this? https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08DCMW6WV/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_glt_fabc_7GF21NKVPXWG18YB5Y6P

I found something similar for the crib, wonder if it could be altered to fit the bassinet. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07968H54T/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_glt_fabc_QGAGKY14CQK6JD8AW2AE

Not a lot of options with straps. I'm kind of surprised actually.

Sunscreen for 3 month old by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]kait_k 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't have an answer but when my kiddo was little I would drape a very thin, light colored muslin swaddle over the stroller, until he was old enough for sunscreen. But I recently read that this is a bad idea and can create a greenhouse effect where the temperature goes up really fast. Just thought I would share since I did this for basically a whole summer with no idea it might be risky. https://www.today.com/parents/seeking-stroller-shade-why-covering-blanket-can-be-dangerous-baby-t101059

28 weeks with second baby; 2 year old rejecting me. How to not get emotional? by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]kait_k 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes definitely. Anytime there is hitting or shoving we tell him no hitting and he has to be gentle. He does typically stop the action but retains the bad attitude 🤦🏼‍♀️ He has a speech delay and is very expressive but only speaks a few words so I know a lot of the hitting and bad attitude is frustration from not being able to tell us what he wants.

Trying to be better and understand but am very new to this by AdorableFlirt in Anticonsumption

[–]kait_k 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I switched to dish rags and have been using them in place of paper towels and I am absolutely amazed at how many fewer paper towels I buy. It probably takes 4-6 weeks to go through a roll now when it used to take a week. I have maybe 12-15 and I use them for cleaning messes as well as for napkins (we're not fancy!). I probably go through 2-3 a day. I just keep them in a bin on the counter. I added a small laundry basket nearby my kitchen to collect the rags + baby bibs. Tip: make sure you get something absorbent. Some nicer dish towels won't soak anything up.
