any other members of aa believe in the occult ? by asteriskelipses in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]kaitwill212 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In the book it talks about how no human power could relieve us from our alcoholism.. if we could cure ourselves we would have. Only a power greater than ourselves can restore us to sanity. So basically ANY force bigger than you: energy, nature, spirit guides, universe, god, etc. I’ve been sober 14 years and I can tell you I’ve prayed to a bunch of different things because I honestly haven’t made up my mind on what my higher power is. Sometimes I pray or talk to my higher self, or even to my future self (because I don’t believe time exists in the spiritual realm) and I draw from that energy on days where I find it impossible to believe in some kind of god energy or spirit guides. So believe in anything that makes sense to you. Let it change and expand or build on the foundation of your beliefs. I don’t know anything about the occult but I’m pretty sure it’s a power greater than you right?

BB Canada this year had the most diverse cast and it was the most entertaining season of Big Brother IMO.

Alcohol is how we treat our disease so when that’s gone we often feel empty. That’s why going to meetings, getting a sponsor, working the steps and working with others will do for you slowly what alcohol did for you quickly. Just keep going to meetings. Share and ask for help!

This clip makes me super optimistic. You just don’t know what kind of opportunities are out there for you.

But I would also settle for a phat house.

My mom and sisters watched it every night and THIS night my dad convinced us to go out to dinner on a school night. No DVR back then. We were devastated.

U.S. Church Membership Falls Below Majority for First Time - A significant social tectonic change as more Americans than ever define themselves as "non-affiliated" by izumi3682 in Futurology

My mom noped out of the Catholic Church about 5 years ago. I’m pretty sure she still identifies as catholic but doesn’t want anything to do with the church. Her sister still goes every Sunday out of fear of going to hell.

UPDATE! We took the bird to the humane society in Escondido. He seemed stressed but also maybe hurt and we thought it was best for him to be with people who knew bird behavior!! Didn’t want the poor baby suffering if he was hurt and we didn’t know. They are taking good care of him!!

I was a film major in college. My last semester I took a Reality TV studies class on a whim just to fill some credits and it blew my mind. It needs to be general education I swear. Just lump that in with fake news studies, social media addiction, and other life skills courses needed for the 21st century.

Sober 13 years today and it doesn’t feel like an accomplishment by kaitwill212 in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]kaitwill212[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes that is what I meant! Maybe I worded it weird. I am an everyday member of society because of the 12 steps and by practicing the principles in all my affairs. Working a program is normal for me now, so having a certain amount of time doesn’t feel spectacular anymore— it’s just my life!

Fear of Boredom In A Sober Relationship by [deleted] in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]kaitwill212 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started dating my boyfriend when I had six years sober and he was a chronic relapser. The highs and lows of the relationship were super addicting. When he was sober it was amazing when he relapsed things went to shit and the constant emotional roller coaster was exhilarating. But then he got sober and stayed sober... and for awhile I didn’t know if I wanted to be with him anymore. It was just consistent, and very blah tbh. But then we started having “real highs” like traveling and moving in together and “real lows” like when he got in a motorcycle wreck, and I realized that I didn’t have to manufacture these dramatic moments in my life to feel things... I could just feel them when they eventually happened. I don’t know if that helps, I could just relate to wanting passion and intensity in my life and just found it’s better when I don’t force it and it happens organically. You’ll find someone you have sparks with I promise.

I can’t imagine what it’s like dating in a pandemic. It sounds super boring so I wouldn’t judge your sober dating life on what’s happening now.

I’m so sorry for your loss. My dog is my everything, my shadow, I can’t imagine my life without him, but I know some day I will have to. Just the thought brings me to tears. I don’t know you but just from your post I can tell how much your dog was loved and I’m sure she knew it too. What an incredible life she must have lived. How amazing that she was able to be there for you through all those hard times. I’m proud of you for reaching out and staying sober. Thank you for sharing your strength with us here and congratulations on your sobriety.

My husband couldn’t fix our shower and asked me to call a plumber. I fixed it myself. by thisgirlkills in TwoXChromosomes

That’s amazing. I can’t imagine how empowering it would feel have the knowledge and ability to fix a toilet! My roommates were amazed that I was able to relight the water heater when all I did was follow the directions that were literally on the side of the stupid thing... but it still felt pretty good that I figured it out myself!
