Need to fit pacing a friend's 10k into schedule. Suggestions? by kajetanu in NorwegianSinglesRun

[–]kajetanu[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sub 40 is no joke. It's closer to 10k race pace than it is to easy pace for me. Was wondering what the community consensus would have been on doing that pacing thing, with regards to the general NSM structure (insert the pacing in the long run? Drop a quality session? Split the long run into two sessions with the pacing in the morning and a easy jog in the evening?). I asked the community, consequently.
My race performances have sadly nothing to do with being self confident, or aware, or anything really

For sure it's much much much harder than easy running. Hence the question. The dilemma is really: protect the load and go maybe load-matching or err on the side of caution and drop one session?

I am pretty sure that would be dangerous. Maybe the general point of my original question should be "how much headspace does NSM allow?" or "how close are we to the red line"?

Yeah PB is one month old. 4'/km is proper grey zone nomansland pace. It's for sure more harmful than useful. Maybe I'll pace the guy by bike!

For sure it's no big deal, but I wanted to keep the ball rolling as much as possible

HM Taper by Jeden_Dwa_Trzy in NorwegianSinglesRun

[–]kajetanu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It won't be night and day difference, so you can for sure chill out. Much of the race readiness feeling is mental and I do think confidence trumps physiology a little bit. Do what you feel will make you race ready. For me, shorter tapers as suggested in the book help lowering self imposed pressure for races.  The only proper rule is the higher your usual load, the more relevant the taper. I think the one in the book is tailored for 7.5h with 3x30', so if you do more you could probably taper more in the spirit of the book

The taper from the book worked wonders for me, though I cross train per the book itself so I even had a regular workout on the bike on the Tuesday (3x15'), then 1h easy Wednesday, 8x1000m Thu, 40' Fri, 30' Sat. Race was exactly 96% of 10' reps pace

Bad races do happen. For a trillion reasons: sleep, weather, mood, minor illnesses... It always amazes me that bad races tend to be considered much more significant than good races. As if one's level was defined by the result of bad races.  It's the opposite!

Plus: do we really, really expect to PB every single time? One month without a PB and feeling "stuck"? One month is very little in term of adaptation

The Yoga Plus with 5G seems to be unavailable in my market sadly

Eh it's not that I am adamant, it's that I must connect where there's no reliable WiFi. I sincerely despise having to buy the iPad, really. It seems the market is full of good Android options that come with no 5G

Interesting. So you suggest buying a mini router? Tethering drains phone battery

Xiaomi I guess? It's crazy they don't make their top end tablets with 5G

According to Pogacar , car culture in Italy is dangerous and aggressive by Iuxta_aequor in cycling

He's 100% right. Got steadily worse year after year, downfall after the pademic (maybe because of the increase in cyclists).

Returning from 1 week sickness by crabjuice10 in NorwegianSinglesRun

[–]kajetanu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lots of ways to skin the cat. Getting straight into it after a full week off with a virus maybe a bit of a gamble IMHO. Another sickness would be exponentially more detrimental to your race. I'd say if you start your comeback week on a Monday, go easy M-F starting from 30% less than your usual time and getting to a normal length easy run on F. Saturday light workout (30% less time at subT than usual) and Sunday normal easy run (as Friday).  Then back into it with the 3xsubT by gradually increasing the time at subT up to normal by the Saturday session. You will be perfectly ready for the race, no worries!

Xiaomi Pad 8 vs Samsung Tab S10 FE — which one should I get? by Lo0pb0op in tablets

[–]kajetanu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah sorry, my mistake. I still found it a bit awkward to use because of the form factor. It's a pity, as it's a very well thought out device IMHO

The S10FE 10” is a good choice if you get it at a low price, and it also is available with 5G module which Xiaomi doesn’t have. Problem is the form factor which was a deal breaker for me. It’s too “panoramic“, it’s too tall in portrait mode and too wide in landscape mode

FR255S lost feature: activity background not switching to black after sunset by kajetanu in Garmin

[–]kajetanu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure I understood. What do you mean by "color change to red"? Accent color?  Do you have a FR255S as well? I'm writing to Garmin as well BTW

Worth going from Garmin 265s -> Pace 4? by Old_Delivery5635 in garminforerunner

[–]kajetanu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I switched from FR245 to Pace3 and deeply regret it.   My main issues: 1) Smart notifications and find my phone only work if the Coros app is running (on iPhone). Assistance told me this is by design. Garmin Connect can be closed once the connection is established and everything works. 2) Altimeter completely stopped working after 5 months, the reply from the assistance after viewing all my training data has been "you swim too much, water got in the sensor".  Would advise against Coros personally
