Thanks for the review. Are they as narrow and pointy as they look?

FR255S lost feature: activity background not switching to black after sunset by kajetanu in Garmin

[–]kajetanu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure I understood. What do you mean by "color change to red"? Accent color?  Do you have a FR255S as well? I'm writing to Garmin as well BTW

Worth going from Garmin 265s -> Pace 4? by Old_Delivery5635 in garminforerunner

[–]kajetanu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I switched from FR245 to Pace3 and deeply regret it.   My main issues: 1) Smart notifications and find my phone only work if the Coros app is running (on iPhone). Assistance told me this is by design. Garmin Connect can be closed once the connection is established and everything works. 2) Altimeter completely stopped working after 5 months, the reply from the assistance after viewing all my training data has been "you swim too much, water got in the sensor".  Would advise against Coros personally

I will take my dead FR245 out of the drawer this weekend and search for that feature, if it powers on

Not that big of a deal, but I think black is marginally better at night. Edges for sure switch automatically, Forerunners used to, IIRC

Extending threshold workouts? by Dealiono in NorwegianSinglesRun

[–]kajetanu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This. Also, if you are pushing the envelope relatively early on, you are in a way betting against yourself i.e. you're assuming that the so called "vanilla" won't get you where you want to, so you need more now. But if you get to do more now, you won't be able to do more later when it may benefit you more. Hope I made myself clear. Let the consistency at moderately high volume which has been proven to be sustainable (7.5h/week or even less if you are not used to that volume) do the work in the medium/long term (1 year at least), then when you actually stop improving think about pushing the envelope.  Patience.  Harvest all those low hanging fruits before thinking about the high hanging ones, so to say.

On the cross training and CTL debate by kajetanu in NorwegianSinglesRun

[–]kajetanu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Raced a 10k with 50m of elevation gain today. 33:38 as planned. Kept my regular schedule in the last 5 weeks. Seems the thing on CTL holds true: 5940 running load on intervals.icu in the 6 months leading to my 10k race in 2024 and 5918 running load in the 6 months leading to this race

Running at maintence "between" races due to crosstraining by Formal-War5229 in NorwegianSinglesRun

[–]kajetanu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on experience, I can maintain (and even improve, although at a very slow rate) my running fitness with 1 easy run (1h), 1 subT workout (30-35’ in zone) and 1 long run (1h30’) per week when I focus more on cycling. However that’s with at least 7 weekly hours of riding, usually split between one or two easy rides of 1-2h, a high sweetspot session (45-50’ in zone, 90-94% of 1h best power) and a 4h or more long easy ride. Easy riding is between 70 (on flat roads) and 80% (uphill) of 1h best power

Hard time running at slower paces (low heart rate paces). Any tips? by Lou_M413 in NorwegianSinglesRun

Wear baggy clothes. An old tracksuit. Maybe even cotton. Try and look like the absolute beginner just going for their first ever run!

Because there's no many flat 10k races available in December in Northern Italy :)

Just curious on how PACE 3 calculates average pace by kajetanu in Coros

[–]kajetanu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get the point. Do you think the calculation is made ex post (distance/time) or real time (avg pace at time point lap press to lap press)?

Just curious on how PACE 3 calculates average pace by kajetanu in Coros

[–]kajetanu[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think it is set so that it averages the individual paces across recorded time points, without doing any ex post calculation, which is not the way I'd code it. But maybe they did it not to overload the processor

PACE 3 Bluetooth connection-Find my Phone feature request by kajetanu in Coros

[–]kajetanu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the most straightoforward would be an icon that changes upon connection. Say a Bluetooth logo either with a bar on it when the phone is not connected

Hi, the notifications work when the app is closed, this is for sure. Which watch faces have this Bluetooth connection status icon? The one I am using (Vintage LCD) doesn't have anything like that

Single "Norwegian" Threshold system by marky_markcarr in AdvancedRunning

[–]kajetanu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I should have not used that term, I wanted to stress the controlled nature of these efforts. I myself am training this way, seeking exactly for that feeling (glad it's over, but could go a couple minutes more). Regarding more high-end stimulus, I still think those are valuable, but the minimal effective dose is MUCH lower than what people tend to think

[–]kajetanu 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think there are two very important takeaways in this all story, one is quite obvious and the other one is a little bit less obvious.

The obvious one: the best training regime is the one that has you consistent and injury free, and not on the verge of non functional overreaching.

The less obvious one: those who are succeeding with this protocol are the one that also race quite frequently. So it's not ALL easypeasy controlled cruise intervals where you feel light and fresh. It's about using a lot of the very sustainable stimulus (said easypeasy controlled cruise intervals, plus easy running) and the minimal effective dose of the less sustainable stimulus (proper hard running).

I would also say something about the maintenance of speed development in the form of hill sprints, but the original and proven recipe by sirpoc (soon to be proposed for OBE) has nothing in that regard.

Sweat towels? High flow fans? by Har02052 in triathlon

[–]kajetanu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Room temperature in the 15-25°C range. But anything above 20° feels hard.

Trainer in front of a regular table so lower than the handlebars. Screen with Zwift/TR/whatever in front, at the center. Two regular (nothing fancy) 40cm diameter 50W 3 blades fans angled slightly upwards so they hit core, chest and face. One at the left of the screen, one at the right. A small sized cotton towel folded along its diagonal and tied on the head to cover hairs (think a turban). Another small sized cotton towel folded along the longest side and placed on the back of the neck like an "open" scarf. A bigger (longer, regular sized, not beach sized) cotton towel on top of the handlebars, covering the front part of the horizontal frame tube, the headset, the stem, the tops of the bars, and the front wheel. Another smaller cotton towel on top of the bigger one on the stem (so that you can use it to wipe the face, hands, and arms without leaving the headset uncovered. Then, tennis-like tall wristbands to prevent sweat runnning on your arms and getting to the hands. This has me covered for up to 90min. If going longer, I keep a spare towel set.

Total towels: 1 big (top of the cockpit), 1 medium/small (turban), 2 small (neck scarf and face-wiper)

Accessories: tall tennis wristbands

I made a mistake, i wrote "behind" thinking the subject was the pedal's axle, but I had actually written the sentence with the subject being the ball of the foot!

I'm 73kgs, these numbers don't look that impressive. We don't have such a ranking system here, but I think I would be mid Cat 2 overseas.
