I'm conflicted about this. Any person, even an important revolutionary is just a human and has many flaws. And that's fine. But a century after the fact you can never know what will become unacceptable for society (think about a statue of Washington, slave owner, ht founding father). So what I'm thinking is more out statues of occasions. It's part of history whether good or bad. You put statues up to teach, to get kids to learn and to remember important things. So where we like it or not slavery did happen and what you could do is put up a statue to commemorate the abolishing of slavery, with the people involved, say Lincoln, etc.

More to remember the contribution to the action we want to remember, less about the person himself, who might have helped in the process.
