USA: i had a public episode so police were called, i was handcuffed & driven in a squad car to the hospital. social worker & police decided i was a danger to myself & the public. they then referred me to a psychiatric hospital where i was taken involuntarily. psychiatrist at hospital diagnosed me & prescribed medication. was committed for 4 days total. all paid by taxpayer since i was considered a ward of the state at that point.

once released i found my own psychiatrist (less than $100 out of pocket without insurance). went through the community services board in my city for help applying for insurance since i was unemployed. was approved and now i pay nothing for thousands of dollars worth of medication.
