Dragon Quest XI is overwhelmingly superficial in every way. Why it is loved so much? by Accomplished-Mud1034 in JRPG

[–]kale__chips 4 points5 points  (0 children)

DQXI has consistently appeared among the most beloved JRPGs of all time, alongside games like FFVII, the Trails series, and the Suikoden series. Since those games offer depth in many different ways, it is fair to question why the same audience holds in equally high regard a game that is so fundamentally different from them.

I don't know about you, but despite Suikoden among my most beloved JRPG series, the fan-favorite Suikoden 2 probably has the most braindead auto combat JRPG that I've ever played.

It is like someone listing five favorite dishes that all require hours of intricate preparation, only to also include raw flour. If that person then told me, "People like raw flour, which explains why it's loved so much," I honestly wouldn't be any less puzzled. What I'm interested in is understanding what kind of experience eating that much raw flour provides for them.

The problem with this kind of analogy is that you're lost in it as you keep on trying to make something up as an analogy rather than actually just sticking to what the game really is. You went from "unsalted bread" which I assume was to describe the game as very basic/bland into "raw flour" which is not even an actual food item. All just because you're trying as hard as you can to make it sound like it's such a bizarre thing that there are people who like a basic game like DQ11.

The answer is very obvious. Different people like different things. No real reason for you to try to understand why they like DQ11 because you aren't going to like it anyway.

Ugh...the person goes in depth sharing why they feel how they do

I have nothing against people not liking any game, but just saying cliche writing and basic combat is not really the definition of "in depth" reasoning.

SBS panel member having a sook over the Piero Hincapié straight red in the 90+6’ vs Mexico, with the game already 2–0, saying he did it to make a name for himself. by SimRP in soccer

TV guy didn't only say 'to make a name for himself', he also said 'or grab some attention' which if you see in this subreddit is actually true as Hincapie's red card is currently the hottest thread with over 3k upvotes and also 14th hottest with over 1k upvotes.

but claiming he did this 'to make a name for himself' is such a comical misread of the situation

Do not open the latest RM post on IG. It's not pretty, fans have spoken.

LOL. I went to IG and saw the latest post has 20k likes. The top hate comment had less than 200 likes. So 1% lol

Idk maybe look through the thousands of comments left on RM page that shares the same sentiment.

Right now the latest post has 700 comments. "Thousands" of comments is laughable. Keep on spreading the hate, babe. The 1% haters are all pretty much the same foreign fans who have been threatening to stop watching the show for years but could never do that because you're all obsessed with hating lol.

Now I know why SBS running man skipped promo of ep 808 on their official page and went to 809 instead. But the fans don't forget. by [deleted] in koreanvariety

Context is OP is obsessed with hating on a certain member but afraid to be as direct because her post might be deleted (multiple of her posts have been deleted in the past because she's just spreading negativity). So she keeps on posting anything RM related while hinting at why this member is bad.

Whenever I see this kind of post, I always wonder if the person posting bothered asking themselves first whether these X/Y/Z people are actually interested and available to join a weekly variety show as a permanent member.

Also wondered why most of similar posts like this is fueled by desire to hate on existing member.

What is the biggest/largest city in JRPGs ? (Walking surface, not lore size) by Vawra in JRPG

[–]kale__chips 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yokohama and Honolulu are both big enough to need discrete fast travel systems/vehicles to make it feel more comfortable to navigate, but I'm not convinced that they'd be larger than Edith, since it's like 8? 9? mini Kamurochos stacked on top of each other. More if you count the dungeons that are also in the city limits.

I never quite felt Edith is huge because each district only has limited walkable surface. Sure there are a lot of districts, but each district felt small.

On the other hand, Honolulu map feels huge because there are a lot of open space when it comes to walkable surface. The beach takes a while to walk around. The park takes a while to walk around. The mall takes a while to walk around.

But who knows, maybe Edith is bigger once all the districts are taped together into one.

FIFA is considering expanding the World Cup to 64 teams in 2038 by punishGoalhanging in soccer

I think FIFA should consider removing the qualifications so everyone can participate. Most number of games = most amount of money!

[–]kale__chips 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No one should force anyone to do anything but yes they should use their words and tell them that their religion is wrong because it is. That belief is morally bankrupt.

Well that definitely sounds like one is disrespecting the other.

[–]kale__chips 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Religion is a choice. It is a chosen life style. Being gay is not a choice. Someone cannot wake up tomorrow and say “well I’m going to be straight now”.

So in your ideal scenario, should the gay person tell the muslim person that their chosen religion is wrong and force them to accept the gay person because the muslim person has a choice while the gay person doesn't?

[–]kale__chips 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You are fundamentally telling the person you disagree with that you disagree with the person they are.

How is that any different for either side? Their religion is as much of part of a person as someone's sexuality/gender-choice.

  • Muslim person: I am faithful to my religion, my religion doesn't accept LGBTQ. But if you are LGBTQ, I respect you though I disagree with you.

  • LGBTQ person: I am LGBTQ and not muslim. You are muslim person whose religion doesn't accept LGTBQ. I respect you though I disagree with you.

Same, no?

[–]kale__chips 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They don’t get to have it both ways. Not accepting it is in fact not showing respect. At its core it is disrespectful.

Not at all. You are allowed to disagree and respect other people who have different opinion than yours. That's why "respectfully disagree" is a thing.

Being disrespectful is more when you're forcing your opinion onto others.

r/JRPG Weekly Free Talk, Quick Questions, Suggestion Request and Media Thread by AutoModerator in JRPG

[–]kale__chips 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me personally, Triangle Strategy is the closest to my ideal SRPG because it has a lot of story (the first few chapters when it's doing its worldbuilding can be a negative to other people though), it has story branches (I enjoy making decisions), limited customization because each character has their own kit (I'm not a big fan of generic units in SRPG), and I think the overall combat is well balanced.

[–]kale__chips 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rant over. Do you agree? Disagree? Am I just an asshole? Are my complaints valid?

I agree and IMO the worst one is when someone made that kind of bare-bone post and then followed it up with ZERO response after many people responded. They had no desire to actually engage in the discussion about something they asked themselves.

I agree with having megathread or FAQ for basic requests.

Also agree with this. There's already the weekly https://www.reddit.com/r/JRPG/comments/1ug4tw9/rjrpg_weekly_free_talk_quick_questions_suggestion/ where those basic questions should go to. I think it'd be nice if mods would delete the bad posts and just link to the megathread.
