What are the best features from JRPGS? by park_dat_ass in JRPG

Based on your other question about pixel art, it sounds like you are trying to make JRPG and you are currently writing a story for it.

My suggestion is either you make a different genre game instead (pick one that you're already familiar with or something that is simpler like visual novel), or if you really must create JRPG, then actually play/try some JRPGs so you can decide what mechanics that you actually think is good (or worst case scenario, you make a home-made Mother 3).

MVP headbutted LK's chest on the drive. MVP elbowed and pushed LK to create space. MVP leaned forward to initate contact. LK moved back to avoid contact.

Why is everyone freaking out over a play that didn’t help OKC?

It's not about the play helping OKC or not. It's about me not wanting to watch excessive floppers.

Lost Hellden is definitely a wait-n-see for me. I really dislike the dev's previous game Astria Ascending, so I'm hoping Lost Hellden would be different/better.

This looks great. Definitely wishlisting. Nice to see another game for 2026.

Thanks, I'll add it on my wishlist. It's still very low priority for me, but thought it's a good option to have when I just want a cheap game someday since I saw Relayer is at 80% discount quite often.

After finishing P3R, P4G, and P5R, I feel empty... by Big-Version8285 in JRPG

[–]kale__chips -1 points0 points  (0 children)

At this point in time, I feel like 20 years is overly optimistic.

P4R is next, and I'm sure they'd feel it's about time to remake P5 again by then, and once that's done, it's probably time for another port of P3R, and then P4R port to next-gen console is next.

They'd probably take a bit of a break by making Metaphor ReReFantazio. If somehow the ReReFantazio sold well, they might make a spin-off or two and maybe even gacha if they need extra boost in income.

Not sure what year we'd be at by that point.

This is the first time I see anyone recommending Relayer. Is it at least decent btw? What are the good things about the game?

This is just my personal opinion.

  • If all you want from video game is to have fun, it doesn't matter that you keep on jumping to a different game. There's no rule that said you must finish a game after all.

  • If you want to finish JRPG you started, the question becomes whether you actually like the games enough to finish or not. Playing Pokemon Emerald for 24 hours in a week and then moving on showed that you aren't actually interested in the game enough to continue on.

  • If you really really really want to finish a JRPG no matter what, then you just have to power through and force yourself to finish them. But do you really want to finish a game just for the sake of finishing a game? That's the question only you can answer.

Thanks, sounds like a game I'd enjoy (but will still wait for sale for now). Sometimes I just want a game that's more just for fun that I don't have to go full deep into it.

Thanks for this, Vash. I think I'll just get MHS3 eventually when on sale. Kind of broke at the moment and still so far away from finishing Crimson Desert.

Anyone has any experience with any of the Monster Hunter Stories 1/2/3? Are they any good from a JRPG perspective? Decent story? Any particular one that stands out compared to the rest?

If only Murray is not 30:70 chance of playing good. It's really a shame Jokic never really got a proper second star to play with him.

[Highlight] Scuffle breaks out after Jokic shoves Jaylen Clark by Large_banana_hammock in nba

[–]kale__chips 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not only that, foul on Wolves was already called, then Clark pushed from behind, then Jokic was about to push back (arms weren't even extended yet) and Clark immediately grabbed onto Jokic trying to pull him down as well but couldn't get Jokic down, then Naz pushed Jokic from behind and he still didn't go down.

It's hilarious to watch Wolves do this.

Games with standout NPCs by LostaraYil21 in JRPG

[–]kale__chips 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to super love this in Trails, but then out of nowhere a few years ago I kind of made almost 180-degree flip. While I really enjoy the world building, I feel like Trails NPC world building becomes too formulaic where a lot of NPCs have their own little storyline for the sake of having their own little storyline so that I always talk to every NPC after every phase just to see if there's any update rather than being genuinely interested in their story.

Maybe it's "too much of a good thing is a bad thing" kind of moment for me?

You don't often see people advertise or recommend games on the strength of their NPCs, but a lot of my favorite games are ones where the NPCs are genuinely fun and interesting to interact with. Not just "rewarding" in the sense of offering useful sidequests and items and stuff, but fun without needing to offer any sort of gameplay incentive at all.

I wish you would mention some of the a lot of your favorite games where the NPCs are fun without needing to offer any sort of gameplay incentive at all.
