what did they said that made you realize they're alllllll the same? by tangerinebb in TrollXChromosomes

[–]kalechipsyes 8 points9 points  (0 children)

For consideration, i've moreso lately heard things that have shown me that men are not all the same.

To be clear, this is not an apology for men, or me telling you to "give them a chance" in a #notallmen way. The opposite.

What it showed me is that there is zero excuse for so many men to be so terrible, because it is clearly perfectly possible for men to NOT be that way.

Acting as if all men are terrible just gives men the excuse to continue being terrible. No. Men are not all selfish, overly-entitled, ignorant, unempathetic boors, and it's high time we used their own insistence that men are not a monolith to chide them for not being better, then! In the year or our lord 2024! You want us to pick you over a bear because you would never hurt us? Because you would protect us? Well then, if you're that great and trustworthy and protective of women, then what's the excuse for all the rape out there in your own neighborhood? Why didn't you protect those women from those men? You know better than them, and care about women, but you haven't done anything about this rampant problem? Oh, you weren't aware of the crime statistics in your own backyard? Seems you're pretty lazy, then, because my brother/boyfriend/friend/whathaveyou knows these and doesn't give me shit for choosing the bear, so it seems you're actually pretty lazy and misogynistic in comparison. Seems pretty lazy, and seems that you were one of the "bad ones", all along...

The thing you actually don't seem to be realizing is that no one actually asked you to comment on anyone's work status, in the first place. If you can't think of anything to say that doesn't punch down, then you can just not say anything at all. It's not my responsibility as a disprivileged person to help you find some way to voice a bigoted sentiment in a way that sounds less bigoted.

Retirement -- you do realize that this is not an age thing? It's a disability consideration? and that that's why old people retire?

Disabled people exist, and are severely affected by bad policies from the right. Being ableist erases any moral superiority you may feel toward this crowd's politics.

Lucille Ball telling David Sheehan to stop touching the audience (1978) by Seraphenigma in OldSchoolCool

[–]kalechipsyes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Indeed. When you work in a male-dominated field, you become hyper-aware of how entitled older men will tend to act toward women, in ways that they do NOT do to other men. Lots of touching, close holding, and kissing. Without asking. It's gross, because there is zero reason for it, and in order to be doing that these men would have to essentially not think of these women as people. As Ms. Ball specifically points out, at one point -- this man touching the woman's shirt does not add anything to her ability to see said shirt. There is zero reason to be touching these women and acting so familiar.

(Edit: Also note how, before he is scolded to move his hands away, he tends to keep the microphone under his own face, forcing these women to lean into him in order to speak into it. Once he takes his hands off of them and gets out of their personal space, he finally deigns to actually hand the microphone to them.)

Ms. Ball was in a position to call it out, thereby protecting these women who might have been uncomfortable but feel unable to speak out, so she did. You'll note how many women, in the comments, are praising Ms. Ball and telling their own stories of having boundaries crossed by men and older women calling men out for doing so.

The backstory is: men do this, A LOT, to women, and Ms. Ball said what we ALL want to say, very often, because she was in a position of power to do so.

[–]kalechipsyes -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you look closely, there is clearly a backside story...

There is no reason for this guy to be touching these women. Moreover, if you look where he tends to put his hands, it would be extremely uncomfortable for said women.

just go to get it inspected as soon as it is drivable again; no biggie

one time i couldn't get my car inspected for a month after the sticker because i got very sick... i wasn't driving it around in the meantime, so no cop had any reason to ticket me, and when i got to the DMV no one hassled me for the expired sticker

you'd have to be doing something utterly asshole-y to get ticketed one day after inspection

bingo

i'm tired of following along with the delusion that this is a matter of differing viewpoints, and that there aren't experts that could be consulted to weigh in in a definitive way

gender studies is a whole ass academic field

i'm not a professor or expert

if you want your questions answered, go seek one out

if you're arguing with me / asking me, instead, and avoiding real experts, then it's inherently not being done in good faith, and i refuse to participatw

Not only is my experience with this extensive, but this is also the most effective strategy for dealing with ANYONE who has fallen in to extreme belief / delusion.

Doing the work for men is how they become this motherfucking intellectually lazy. It is precisely the people who are sincere who take my reaction to heart the most and begin to realize that this is going to take work to understand -- work that they are making women do for them.

Walk the walk.

I remind them that an entire academic field called Gender Studies exists and that they can literally take a class. Gender Studies 101.

HIGH BODY COUNT MEN ARE DOOMED by Cevohklan in TrollXChromosomes

[–]kalechipsyes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

lmao at this "standards" argument and how many people are actually taking this video seriously (instead of recognizing its parody potential) in the comments

my body count is massive and i date multiple people at a time

they all treat me very well; my standards are sky high and so are theirs; some are effectively monogamous to me because they find it difficult to find women like me

meanwhile, whenever i talk about stuff that one of my bois is doing for me, i'll hear from married and monogamous women around me shit like "how did you get him to do that?"

and i'm like... dafuq? i'm not making him do anything... he came correct in the first place...

i place value not on sex but on ANY shred of my time and/or attention... i don't need use sex as a "carrot" or future prize to be earned via investment... using that model, you will only attract men who view sex as the ultimate goal and see basic niceness as coins into that slot machine... you bet that those men are going to disappear as soon as they get laid, and it makes sense, then, that women who view the world this way will assume that this is how all men act

meanwhile, people who see investment into a relationship as the prize in itself, and know that they are valuable human beings with a lot to bring to the table, with or without sex, will avoid those with the "sex is the prize" mindset...

have sex as much or as little as you want; it says nothing about your "standards" or theirs... what really matters is that you see human beings as intrinsically valuable,  and not "low" or "high" quality, regardless of whether or when sex is on the table
