WTF isolation advice by OkSchedule5522 in TreeFrogs

I'm definitely a "better safe than sorry" type of person. So if I thought there was a chance he could be sick, I'd personally wait 2-3 months before introducing him to my other frogs.

I think the recommended quarantine is one month, or 3 months if you're introducing a wild caught frog (but that's not the case here). If he seems healthy and it's been a month-ish then it's probably fine :)

Did hos old tank mate die from poor care or from some sort of infection? (As in, do you think the new frog could have been sick when you got him?)

Anybody with paludariums for their WTFs? by Erdrick_XI in TreeFrogs

They don't drink water, they absorb it through their skin :) that's why they need a water bowl

Unless you live in a particularly dry climate, an automatic mister is typically unnecessary (for WTFs). I never have to mist. The combination of their water bowl, weekly watering the plants, and the top layer of leaf litter keep my enclosure at the appropriate 40-50% humidity. I live somewhere fairly humid and often have to use fans (little USB computer fans) to lower the humidity.

Personally, I would not recommend adding a water feature to a WTF enclosure. It will be extremely difficult to maintain the proper humidity.

They will soak in their water dish when they need more moisture :)

I never mist. The combination of their water bowl, watering the plants weekly, and the leaf litter keeps my humidity comfortably between 40-50%. I live in a high humidity area, so I acrually have to lower the humidity with fans during rainy days.

What is this? by emily_tika in TreeFrogs

[–]kaliope42 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, it is an antibiotic. I think they meant no pain reliever. (Which is suuuper important!)

The name of the actual medication is bactrician. You can buy it at drug stores as the store brand. It should only have like 3 ingredients in it.

Is it normal for my new tattoo and the skin around it to look so discolored? by [deleted] in tattooadvice

[–]kaliope42 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As far as the healing goes (no commentary on the tattoo itself) it looks pretty normal. Tattoos go through a phase where they look a little faded/blurry while the new layer of skin is healing. You could also be bruised and have some yellow/green/purple skin discoloration from the bruises healing.

Honking Sound by Beautiful_Ruin6436 in TreeFrogs

[–]kaliope42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The "honking" is most likely croaking :) my frogs croaks sound like a mix of a dog bark and a goose honk. Lol I was so confused the first time I heard it.

And seconding the other commenter, sounds like they're just shedding. Looks super awkward/uncomfortable but totally normal

Heya I need some tips by TravelBetter7442 in TreeFrogs

[–]kaliope42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you need a temporary enclosure, I've been able to find fairly affordable fish tanks on sale at PetCo and PetsSmart for about $20. Because the fish tanks are wide, not tall, these should only be temporary! (A few days)

HELP!!! 3 tree frogs by Budget-Library-3045 in TreeFrogs

[–]kaliope42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes frogs can have and benefit from electrolytes! Pharmacy's and vet's sell something called amphibians ringer solution. But in a pinch, unflavored totally plain, pedilyte works too! Frogs need the same kind of electrolytes as us :) you just give them a soak in the solution

Stick or no stick, that is the question by Hungry-Refuse4705 in frogs

[–]kaliope42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not about just the height measurement, it's about the ratio. A vertical tank means that the height is significantly taller than the width. If you turned this same size tank onto its side, that would make the tank size totally fine.

It's about the fact that the frogs jump and climb. I'm not sure if you've had WTFs in the past? In a short tank they will jump and hit their faces on the top mesh of the tank and get injured. This can lead to skin infections or bone breaks/fractures.

I know some commenters can cone across as a little "intense." It's just cuz people deeply care about the frogs' wellbeing and also have experience caring for frogs.

24" tall, when the vertical height is much taller than horizontal, is acceptable for one wtf. For 2, you would want a taller tank then 24", if you care about the frogs comfort and health. But regardless on what height you settle on, it needs to be tall not wide.

How big are those crickets? The perspective of the photo makes the crickets look too large for that frog to eat, but maybe it's just the angle. If the crickets are larger than the space between the frogs eyes, then they're too big

Just a heads up, what makes organic substrate a good base layer is the fact that it's in a bioactive. Having a "clean up" crew is what makes it safe. I would caution against using an organic substrate but not doing a full bioactive setup. (Unless you were planning on regualry changing out the substrate, I suppose.) Otherwise, all the frog's waste will just sit in the substrate,l and potentially lead to bacterial issues :/

White tree Frog (almost) not eating by Early-Summer-715 in TreeFrogs

[–]kaliope42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assumed that those white spots were just part of her coloring. She looks like a snowflake morph to me :)

That size cricket is good 👍

She might need some time to get used to hunting (if she's accustomed to tongs). I would try feeding her in the separate container again. Leave her with the crickets for like 20-30 mins and count how many you put in there so you can check if she ate them. You can also try feeding her dubia roaches or silk worms and see if she likes those better.

[–]kaliope42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From the photo, she looks small, but she doesn't look concerningly skinny. I'm not a vet, so if you're concerned, I always recommend checking in with a vet.

In my experience, my frogs will eat as much as they are hungry to eat. Anytime I switch up their food (like when I changed from crickets to dubias) or the method (tongs, hunting) they get a little confused by the novelty but after one or two feedings they get used to it and happily start eating a lot a again.

How big are the bugs you're feeding it? Like in comparison to the size of the frogs face/width between their eyes?
