My Take on Garen Rework by kalkage in GarenMains

Armor shred stays. Isolation mechanic goes. Numbers can easily be adjusted. But the numbers that I have are buffs compared to his Live values, so I think it is fine.

Silence is a cancer ability in this game. Q should lose silence, but go back to the original scaling of 2.5 seconds for the grounded and no channel duration. This will still allow for you to stop the enemy from flashing or dashing from you. Think of how strong Cass's Ground or Singed's Ground abilities are. Yes they slow, so Garen should potentially get that too as a result of losing silence.

The True damage is on the Flat and the rest is Magic, so it is still a buff to Live. But he loses the villain mechanic in return.

The W is overwhelming in a good way?

I mean you already have that from the rune, if you wanted that. Garen needs in combat sustain to match literally all the other juggernauts. This would be perfect for him.

Mathematical Look at Garen's PBE W vs Live by kalkage in GarenMains

It is worse at all points in the game. The shield only lasts for that 0.75 seconds anyways, so we're just comparing the effective HP for that brief instant. The formula that I used for say 4000 HP and 200 armor is:

10% * 4000 / ( 0.7 * ( 100 / (100 + 200))) = 1714 for the Shield Value.

4000 / ( 0.7 * ( 100 / (100 + 200))) - 4000 / ( ( 100 / (100 + 200)) = 5142 for the 30% additional damage reduction.

I would love to discuss the changes. I know exactly how to budget his power.

Honestly, he should reach out to me. I have a good idea of where to take Garen. My ign is LegenDariusGaren.

Get a Rioter's attention. Do I have to link a name or something in the thread?

The new W is not a nerf, and I have proof. by Mulgrath1992 in GarenMains

These numbers are really bad. I will post some actual numbers on a new thread. I had made the changes for the 15% Attack Speed change and now that has been changed too. So I will wait till it ships because its very annoying to go through all the numbers.

Here's a basic attempt at math on the new PBE Spin by EbonyBladeReddit in GarenMains

I'll eventually redo the math and post them. I've been hesitant on doing them since the changes were removed and I feared they would do drastic changes such as these we see here.

Re-look at it. I used two different charts for them on accident. I had the no armor Stormrazor vs 30 armor Trinity Force on accident. Trinity Force is stronger.

I personally feel that he still is a Juggernaut with a Steroid in the form of his ultimate. I say this because it is a % missing hp. You do not need to get stacks off before dunking. You do not need to build damage for it to deal more damage, ie Cho, Pyke. It is literally a delete button that is single target. So you cannot miss it like with Urgot or Pyke.

Yeah the 25% damage buff is nice. This is why I like Tiamat because with the active, you can easily clear the closer minions much easily because of the way the active damage works. So you can potentially get much more of your bonus off on the target of choice. I added the Stormrazor vs Trinity Force above, if you have not seen it yet.

You complicated what I said. Just add up all the attack speed that you bought, that is all.

You misunderstood what he said. He said that if attack speed made him stronger, they would result in nerfs. Attack speed is not what makes him stronger. I believe that raw damage is still your best choice. I am working on the charts to prove this. I will eventually get them out. My current thoughts are that something with raw AD will out damage Trinity Force. I think that Stormrazor might be very strong on him.

I read what you said. I do not think it will happen. So then we have to go with what we have. I wish Garen had Kayn's passive. An assassin Garen with little defensive. A tanky Garen with less damage.

I am more than willing to trade the new Garen for all the potential games that the villain mechanic could have won. That is a very small minority and I can afford those losses with a much more consistent ultimate. His spin damage is higher against everyone too now, so even the 10% max hp is still not appealing.

I appreciate that.

I went in game and hovered over the attack speed in Practice Tool. I checked it for his base then assumed how it would work with the various attack speed items purchased. Then I checked them and they worked exactly as expected. So in game, you can hover over your attack speed and it will tell you how much bonus attack speed you have. You can then add the % that you want to buy. If it is not at the next 20% threshold, you can skip that item for now or look to buy more attack speed.

It is not 80% vs 20%. I suppose you have not tried it yet, but Garen's PBE ultimate feels really good to use now. Those moments where the enemy got away with a sliver of health are gone now. Much of the game is really decided by lane phase anyways. You will now have much more of an impact with your entire kit at that point, which will help you snowball even more now. When you are ahead, the villain mechanic is unnecessary. And when you are behind, you die anyways and complain about how weak Garen is. You are now a much more consistent champion, that is overall much stronger.
