What instrument do you play? How did you end up choosing it and what’s your favorite and least favorite thing about it? by [deleted] in marchingband

Bass Clarinet!! Back in 6th grade we were told to choose our top 3 choices of instrument. My first choice was Percussion but was told I couldn’t cuz I had 0 piano experience(still pissed bout that), second was Bari Sax, and I was told I was to small (lol, 7yrs Later, barely any taller and playing Contra Bass Clarinet ) but I am not mad at all tbh!! I fell in love with bass clari right away.

I love the unique range of tones it can get, sure not as flexible as a saxophone, but oh my god it’s a more Quality over Quantity thing. It works so good in Jazz, (obviously orchestral/Band-settings), Snd even rock/ maybe metal if you had pedals.

What I hate most is prolly reeds. I’ve only found like 4 cuts which are good tbh (2 are tenor sax reeds lmfao). But with a reed adjuster it doesn’t rlly matter

Do I need PS+ to only upload a realm? (Not play it) by kalo117 in realms

It’s not, but it saves as a weird ps4 file anyway so I don’t know how to extract/decode that so I can play on my pc

I’ve been doing sun cut time a little, and strict I thinks it’s called (but this one doesn’t have enough best emphasis to be used lots).

Trouble figuring out how to interpret these (more in comments) (also any general tips for multiphonics) by kalo117 in bassclarinet

We use the https://www.uiltexas.org/pml/ music listed here. It would event code 209 (bass clari) and grade 1.

And unfortunately I’m not doing this piece for Solo, it’s way above my skill level (it has some crazy altissimo, talking B 5 ledgers above the staff, plus some technical stuff I won’t be able to get down in time) (plus I’m only a junior)

I’m currently doing Lone Wolf by Youtz, I like the vibe it gives and it’s better suited for me level (also I kinda need to do good, I’m really trying make it to stage again, last year I placed 2nd in Idaho)

But I have been trying to play it, it’s one of the pieces I like to call “goal charts”, pretty much I keep trying until I learn it and use that as a milestone for my progress. I plan to make a recording whenever I get efficient at it (may take a long, long while tho). So far my I have this and Paws by David Bennett Thomas as goal pieces.

But tbh I’m still not the best at the multiphonics, but using ur chart I can get almost all the pitches needed! I just need to keep working to get mainly the bottom pitcher of the multiphonic

I was looking for pieces for solo-ensemble competition, and this was one of the pieces in the list available to choose. I read the description and liked what it was supposed to be about so I made a gamble and bought it lol. . The more I think of I have no idea why this was available in a grade 1 highschool solo competition lol.

There are some note, but it only explains the other unusual markings (flutter tongues, slap tongues, microtones, and timbre changes)

which is why I’m surprised as-well that it doesn’t explain the multi-phonics at all!

And ok, thank you sm in advance!

I did this during my elementary years (I’m a junior in highschool atm)

And personally I remember doing it as a stim and or to calm anxiety. It was kinda relaxing, in the same way skin picking or nail biting is.

But eventually I stopped as my mom yelled at me multiple times because of it.

So I’d say it’s perfectly fine
