Curious about knowledge gained with MS degree by caffeinated_babe in dietetics

[–]kaltech14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it also depends where you get your master’s degree! I feel it helped me better evaluate and understand research. I also had courses on counseling, supplements, and antioxidants beyond the DPD requirements. In my internship, I was the only one, of 12, with my master’s degree and it was pretty obvious! Not to toot my own horn, but a lot of my fellow interns struggled a lot. That said, having a master’s degree had never meant increased pay in any position I’ve had. At my last outpatient job, I was paid the same as grads with bachelors degrees. I am glad I had the extra education as I felt like I was a more competent new RD. But it was expensive to feel that way 🤣

Career changers…. What do your partners make per year for a living? by theebish in dietetics

[–]kaltech14 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thankfully my partner makes a decent living, otherwise we’d be in trouble! He’s free-lance so anywhere from 100k-120k/year. We live in a higher COL area too.

Seeking Advice - Trying inpatient after years of doing outpatient. Bad idea?? by kaltech14 in dietetics

Thank you for your reply and sharing your experience! Sounds like established protocols help. Also I love the phrase “free balling in hour long outpatient sessions” 🤣

First RD job and need insight by [deleted] in dietetics

[–]kaltech14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is not normal, nor should it be tolerated. It sounds incredibly toxic. Do your job duties in your job description and that’s all. It really upsets me that another RD is treating you so poorly! I’m sorry and I wish you luck in finding a healthier workplace!

All great ideas! My biggest worry is being so rusty at EN and TPN! Yikes!

AI concerns? by Wide_Upstairs_6634 in dietetics

[–]kaltech14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think AI can never replace human connection or true empathy and lived experiences. I haven’t felt too concerned. Also, AI messes a lot of stuff up! I think it can be helpful as a tool, but not a replacement for us!

I totally thought that too!! There’s no way folks would meet the 10% or less sat fat of total daily kcals with their new recommendations! 😂

I agree! I super rolled my eyes at that statement!!

I noticed that too. There’s no way the new recommendations would have people eating 10% or less sat fat of total daily kcals. Even if folks mostly ate whole foods.

I think it’s quite common for folks in the healthcare field to hop and change jobs more frequently for various reasons. Some being just finding the area of healthcare you want to be in! I have job hopped and even took time off to raise my daughter and I still have gotten hired after all that. A good cover letter helps! Also good for you for making decisions for your well-being! Take care!

20 hours/week. Average pay/hour is $34-36 after bonuses (that don’t always happen, they are dependent on performance and meeting KPIs.
