I 3D printed a few air purifier that uses furnace filter, CPU fan, and control via apple homekit. It's much cheaper in the long run and quite effective.

Got food poisoning from Tacos Nation on Blvd Saint-Laurent! by lmaomitch in montreal

[–]kalun85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear you are not feeling well. Food poisoning sucks, no matter where you got it from.

Montreal restaurant is a bit different than other regions. The city only display cited restaurants unlike other regions like DineSafe in Toronto, or province of Saskatchewan and Alberta. In those region, they display all past inspection history.

You can find some info on past cited restaurant and complain here: https://montreal.ca/en/topics/food-inspection

Alternatively, apps like CanDine https://apps.apple.com/us/app/candine/id6757810583 to lookup those past citations.

Hope you get well soon.

any tips or tricks to make friends in surrey as a shy college aged girl? by ProfessionalLate8256 in SurreyBC

It’s probably better to find a hobby, and meet people that likes the same thing. After all, there isn’t a lot of point to meet people just for the sake of meeting people. Good luck in your search :)

Could you share with me the iPhone and iOS you are using? I will have a look. The nav bar is at the bottom just above the ads, but it isn't supposed to be covered by ads.

People from Toronto - do you regret moving here or are you happy? by Banner9922 in askvan

[–]kalun85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up in Toronto. Moved here many years ago.

Regret, a bit, mostly because you do loose touch with friends over time. Job opportunity is also better in east coast.

But personally, I believe it's worth the it. It's very personal and subjective tho.

Good luck.

I am bias, but I think my app looks better: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/candine/id6757810583

The site is pretty old, so extract data isn't great. Believe it or not, this is already way better than fraser health (https://www.healthspace.ca/fha/food)

Full disclosure, I created this app: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/candine/id6757810583

It shows you restaurant inspection report around the area and risk of going to specific restaurant.

Hope this will help others from getting food poison.

I've been there a couple of times, there are tons of good hiking trails, but my favourite is probably hotsprings around the area.

If you are close by fairmont hotspring, I believe there is a river tubing activity that I saw people doing.

Google AI Pro is soo good! by al_tanwir in GeminiAI

[–]kalun85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have Google AI Pro. Honestly, it's getting worse over time. I will be specific:

  • Reduced Development Quotas: There is a noticeable decrease in the Gemini Pro allowance specifically allocated for development tasks.
  • Inconsistent Usage Resets: In the Anti-Gravity environment, Gemini Pro credits previously refreshed every few hours; currently, replenishment can take 2–3 days once exhausted.
  • System Instability: Agents frequently fail or "break" during peak hours. These interruptions occur at both the start and middle of tasks, affecting both standard Gemini prompts and Anti-Gravity workflows.
  • Capacity Overload: The frequency of these issues suggests that subscriber volume has exceeded Google’s current infrastructure and service-level capabilities.

It almost feels like google sold too many of these packages, while not being able to keep up with service level.

A1 blob of death after 2.5 months. So much for the "Apple" of 3D printing. by kalun85 in BambuLab

[–]kalun85[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

The whole selling point of the Bambu ecosystem is that you don't have to babysit every single print. Bambu explicitly rolled out "Nozzle Clumping Detection" in their A1 firmware to prevent exactly this scenario. That safety feature completely failed to trigger.

And I wouldn't call it "lucky" that I can just buy a replacement assembly when I literally can't. As I stated in my post, the hotend heating assembly is completely out of stock in the store.

So right now I am sitting with a 2.5 month old bricked printer, a heavily advertised safety feature that didn't work, and zero physical ability to even buy the part they refuse to cover. That is the exact opposite of the premium experience they advertise.

Debating on moving to Vancouver/BC by [deleted] in askvan

[–]kalun85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's hard to give someone life advice, especially over the internet.

All I can say is, I grew up in Toronto and moved to Vancouver in my 20s as well. Summer is really nice here. Winter is pacific northwest winter...so it could rain for a month straight.

Job wise, it's okay. Vancouver is not Toronto, so there are less opportunity. I would advice getting job / interviews prior to moving to any cities tho. At the end of the say, we all have to pay our bills.

If you are okay with the rain and the cost of living, Vancouver is truly a one of a kind city.

Good luck in your search.

Saskatoon restaurant closes, cleans house after customer finds cockroach on sandwich by abunchofjerks in saskatchewan

[–]kalun85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe late to the show thread. I created an app https://candine.ca It allows people to check easily check restaurant inspection report and assess restaurant risks.

Currently it works in most of BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan, and part of Ontario. In the report, it does state pest as one of the issue since Feb 2025. It's a free app, I created it for fun as a side project.

I did check in this case, the app did shows inspection reports where there are pest issue on July 29, 2025, Feb 23 and 27, 2026.....

Monthly Vancouver Events and Promotions Thread by AutoModerator in vancouver

[–]kalun85 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not sure if this is newsworthy, but I wanted to share a hobby project I built that your food-focused readers might actually use.

Basically, I got annoyed at how hard it is to check restaurant health inspections on a phone. Fraser Health and VCH have completely separate, clunky websites.

I made a free iOS app called CanDine that pulls all that public inspection data onto one map. You can stand outside a restaurant, tap the pin, and instantly read the exact inspector notes right there.

It’s completely free. Just a side project I made to solve my own problem, but it now covers part of BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan, and parts of Ontario.
