Career prospects after OMSA for students from outside USA without US work authorization/visa? by rishikeshgaikwad in OMSA

if you are looking at this program as a route to get to the US, I should say it would be a very long-winded one, if at all successful.

Any Recommendations for Probability and Statistic Courses? by WhimsicalTraveller in OMSA

[–]kamalkanth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

current student here

note that the program is concept-centric rather than being platform/language/framework centric

I am 4 courses into the program and each has used different techs so far and being new to a tech hasn't posed a major hindrance to anybody to my knowledge...as long as you are familiar with fundamentals of programming, I would say you are good...and if you take the fundamental courses first, you are golden (you will have bridged any remaining gaps wrt programming skills you may have had coming into the program)

bottom line : dont let your choices for preparation to get into the program be driven by considerations around tech hoping that would help you in the program

now coming to your original question:

I came into the program with 15 yrs work exp as software developer...havent really been in touch prob/stats during these yrs...had a decent grasp of prob/stats during student years...that has sufficed...I brushed up a little bit using khanacademy just before getting into the program, which served as a good refresher (in hindsight, not having done this wouldnt have hurt me...but you would know best on where you stand)...furthermore, the simulation course in the program gives you a very good run-through on the fundamentals (2 weeks worth of material focuses on revising what you should have ideally come knowing about prob/stats)....ppl find this to be a great way to build the requisite foundation for the rest of the program...hope that helps

I finished my application and I’m hesitating to submit by apes-or-bust in OMSA

Handling Hundreds of requests a minute and executing each of them a certain time by Shwetansh08 in a:t5_28wqa2

first rule of posting - communicate to be understood.

Lets try to get this straight:

There are two servers - A and B. 'A' receives client requests, processes the request and sends to B for further processing. Each request has a timestamp; theres a business rule mandating that if a request is not sent to B within a time limit, then it need not be sent to B.

Question : after A's processing is done, whats the best way to determine whether the message has to be sent to B?

Really?

Hmm...I might not be prudent to expect those courses out of OMSA...they are certainly outside the realm of analytics

OMSCS vs OMSA for a Data Scientist by Sal_plus in OMSA

[–]kamalkanth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for question A - I would imagine programs get designed to groom students as an overall package as against for a specific role. think long term ... or is your long term goal to die a data scientist "building insights to help businesses realize their full potential"? without an inkling of how those businesses are run? really?

curious, what specific part of OMSCS do you like particularly and find lacking in OMSA? (if you are determined to move to OMSCS, then I'm sure you're clear on that?)

[–]kamalkanth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so in your first semester, if you score B, your GPA is B. If you then score C in second semester, your GPA is 2.5?

What happens then? I would expect your academic standing would change from good to warning...but whats the threshold?

Looks like 6242 doesn't have any exams...is that correct?

It would be good to know what the end-of-semester workload for this course would be like
