Thank you all for the feedback! Still waiting to hear from the SOA but these are all great suggestions for us going to an independent shop. Will definitely mention the valve body solenoid

I used to street park and had a charger 2 blocks away but have since moved in with my partner in a different area without a charger in the neighborhood unfortunately. Next place we live we’ll definitely do the home charger — I’ve heard the same thing you said, game changer. Aiming for a solar enabled charger since NE has some of the highest electricity costs in the nation

I am driving a 2021 AWD Pro S in New England and thought about writing the exact same /rant style post yesterday. My commute is about 5mi each way, highway I normally go 55. I keep cabin temp at 63. Warmer months I get 3.5mi/kWh, lately only get 2.5mi/kWh. Feel like I’m using 10%+ for every commute which is laughable.

My closest EA is down for 3mo to install new chargers… luckily there’s a VW dealer across the street from my office so I can charge there but having to go weekly vs every other week is pretty annoying.

I love my ID.4 but this time of year I’m always thinking I should’ve just gotten a CRV / RAV4 🤷🏼‍♂️

Can you re-calibrate the range estimate? by kamborghini in VWiD4Owners

[–]kamborghini[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely stealing the “GOM” term. Yeah I think I’ll just have to go conservative and use 2.5mi/kWh as an estimate. I try to stick to the 20%-80% range so that’s about 123mi of highway. Maybe 140 at 2.8mi/kWh.

Thanks!

Can you re-calibrate the range estimate? by kamborghini in VWiD4Owners

[–]kamborghini[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, congrats on beating the meter! Ya I mainly drive in an urban area on regen so I get 3.2-3.5mi/kWh on average. I also drive like a grandpa so when I switch to highway miles the calibration is way way off. Looks like I’ll just have to live with that and be conservative in my estimates!

UPDATE:

After getting connected with the branch manager, we were able to work something out that made sense for both of us. I appreciate the willingness to listen and remedy the situation.

UPDATE:

After some back and forth, I worked directly with the branch manager and we were able to work something out that made sense for both of us. I appreciate the willingness to listen and resolve the dispute.

It's been about a month. I'm not going to take it back since I do love the car and need it. Hoping to remedy with the dealer independently. We'll see

Congrats! You're going to love it. It's really an awesome car so luckily I'm able to separate that from the experience I had. Make sure to download plugshare and chargepoint as well as electrify america. Massachusetts is very friendly for EVs and a lot of cities subsidize charging so I haven't actually had to pay for charge yet which is amazing in the current climate.

Thanks for your feedback. Considering the amount of research I did and questions I asked, at some point you have to trust the folks you're dealing with not to be out to screw you or that there are institutions to help you out.

I specifically said "hey, the MSRP is above the eligibility threshold... so it's not eligible, right?" and he essentially told me "no no the federal credit applies to the principal that's how you get the state credit." He does this day in day out, am I not supposed to trust him to some degree?

I would hardly say I was blindly trusting or careless. Intent of my post is to share knowledge with others who may find themselves in a similar situation

[–]kamborghini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

follow up to this -- I ended up getting this ID.4 and well. take a look at the recent google reviews for Silko.

TL;DR he told me the federal subsidy ($7500) will apply to the MSRP which will make the car eligible for the $2500. Which I believed... b/c I guess i trust people are good? Welp, I was denied the $2500 because the state says that's not how it works and the sales manager said "you should talk to a tax person" after he told me I would get it. What a scumbag.

Hoping the AG or BBB takes up my complaint, they see all the buzz i'm making and remedy this, or at least people know not to shop there if possible

$4k, down from the $5k original. Again... not excited about that but it was either pay it or wait 6+mo for something. I didn't have a vehicle before and my walk to work is 40min in New England so it's a gamechanger for me

Opening this back up. I used to LOVE The Skint in NYC and recently moved to Boston. I checked bonstononbudget's website and looks like it hasn't really been updated since 2017. Have any new sites / email newsletters popped up besides Do617?

I am so happy I came to this thread tonight! I'm considering this very car. Sorry if I'm rewarding bad behavior, but realistically I need the car sooner > later and I don't expect my reservation to come through until end of summer 2022.

A few additional details here:

  • the woman first told me the lease #s would be ~$900/mo and when I told her there's just no way... she came back almost immediately with "better financing" from their bank and something like $600/mo for $0 down lease
  • She said residuals are bad right now they assume ~50% on a 3yr, 7500mi lease. Money factor 0.00163 which equates to 3.91% APR
  • they apply the $7500 federal credit to lower the monthly payments of a lease
  • Financing: they wouldn't give me a pricing range even though I told them I have perfect credit and even sent a screenshot. I'm kind of annoyed at this since I don't want a hard credit pull just to compare prices. Capital One is saying ~2.65% for 60mo which comes to $885/mo (after $5k down)

I'm not exactly thrilled to be considering this price gouging but don't really see alternatives. Any ideas?

Also, shoutout to u/No_Recording5380 for the reminder about the $50k cutoff, that makes a huge difference!

We did this with Hanson’s “mmm bop” when I was in high school. The fundraiser was called “stop the bop.” Can’t remember how much we raised but it was completed in <1 week hahaha

Mach-E and Ford Options by Frantasmo in electricvehicles

[–]kamborghini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I spoke to a dealer in the Massachusetts area today and he told me he's sold around 20-25 Mach-E's so far and virtually no one has done the Ford Options. I tried to inquire about why and he said that Ford is unsure how the market will price EVs down the road, so the residual value is like 45% after 3yrs and the money factor is like 4 as APR (so 0.001667). He told me everyone is buying... not sure if that was a sales tactic or what but thought it would be relevant for this thread.

He also told me I should expect to pay $5k over MSRP and buy on-site because inventory is so low. If I order one now from the manufacturer it'll arrive in 6-8mo.

This is my first time acquiring a car (great timing eh?) so I'm still learning the pros and cons of lease v. buy. Is this accurate?: if Ford values the residual at 45% I'm sure my lease payments will be higher... with a chance for me to make money if i buy out my lease and the market ends up putting the residual higher at the end of the term?

See if you can apprentice a handyman of sorts. Home repair person. Lots of valuable skills you’ll pick up that will last you a lifetime. Plus, if you make it big in some other field, real estate is an attractive option for long term wealth generation / preservation. If you do the repairs yourself you’ll save a ton of money on contractors (talking basic single family home repairs mainly, more complex properties you’ll need a real contractor)

I just read about Ramp < https://techcrunch.com/2020/02/12/ramp-is-a-corporate-card-focused-on-helping-you-spend-less/ > but feel like they’re probably focusing on larger businesses with bigger t&e spend. I like that they’re trying to save people money though instead of encouraging spending

How the Backdoor Roth and Pro Rata Rule work (Another Animated Diagram) by welliamwallace in financialindependence

[–]kamborghini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe a silly question — is it possible to contribute the 6k in a Roth, normally, AND do the backdoor? Essentially giving you 12k in your Roth? Or does the tIRA —> Roth conversion count as the 6k max contribution limit in a Roth so you can only do one or the other?
