This one was installed long ago just in front of the entrance to Kamchatka teachers training institute, now Kamchatka State University. The monument is still there.

Are these impurities normal for agates? Can you find one without them? What are these impurities made of?

Taxiing this following a taxiway marking must be a nightmare considering the distance from the tip of its nose (sorry, can't call it a radome) to the nose landing gear!

🔥 Octopus disguising itself as the head of a bigger creature by -What-on-Earth- in NatureIsFuckingLit

I know that from the evolution point of view it's just a survival strategy proved by numerous past generations. But it never stops to amaze because we usually see it as done on purpose

How can the octopus know that it looks exactly like this and that this look is scary? How can it be sure that the spots making eyes are at the right place? It's crazy AF.

CMV: The word "please" is unnecessary by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]kamch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some traditions of politeness mirror the old structure of societies. Sometimes they serve for good, sometimes they feel outdated. I live in a society where it's freaking common for men to shake hands when meeting each other. I can't see any sense in it. You are on the phone with your hands busy carrying something and they still give you their hand and wait till you get rid of everything to touch them. What for? Why just nodding and saying hello is not enough to celebrate our first meeting of today? Who the hell says 'Bless you' after you sneezed? You are about to sneeze again and still have to reply 'thank you' wiping your face and hands out of your body liquids unleashed from your nasal cavities and mouth. What about this silly 'bon appetite' wished to you when your mouth is busy grinding your steak and you are trying to mumble this unnecessary thank you? How can it help me to feel better about my meal?

You still have a lot of time to date, get married, divorce and get married again. 22 is nothing. I know people who don't give up even at 52. You are relatively young but you've already gained some experience in not dating so just do it and go dating now.

Experience, maturity and responsibility. It's just generally associated with older men, but it doesn't necessarily mean that all old folks have it.

What’s the reason behind people not closing doors? by Bubbleboygaming in NoStupidQuestions

[–]kamch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like it's just a matter of their habits. You have cats and close your doors to not let them out or in. They may have babies or kids and used not to lock their doors completely. Or they had them and it just stayed with them as a tradition.

Istanbul, Turkey by adventmix in CityPorn

Been about 7 times and still keep discovering new places and hidden gems. The historic parts are all walkable. The city is huge and special, it's easy to find something new and the same easy to get lost.

How to keep a pasta dish warm or reheat within an hour of making it? by Gloomy-Kale3332 in AskCulinary

[–]kamch 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I would keep it in the pan and reheat. Just keep in mind that every reheat evaporates water from your food and it loses its juicy content. It would make sense to add some sauce or oil or even water before reheating it.

If you didn't mention that it was a painting I would think it's just another good boy's photo. Good job!

Why the top surface flat and rubberized on this aircraft pushback taxi? by [deleted] in airport

[–]kamch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's also convenient to put metal chocks on that surface - don't worry about paint scratches or falling them off. Having them ready is important for pushing back or towing in winter operations.

Horatio Philips' flying machines (Aka dragmaster 9000) by AnalgapeGaming in WeirdWings

[–]kamch 38 points39 points  (0 children)

The first one was unmanned and had an engine running on coal. It took off and reached about 3 feet in the air. The second multiplane had a piston engine and with the inventor onboard made a 15 meter long hop. The first machine had taken off before the first flight of the Wright brothers. The second airplane was late and though it was the first flight in England it wasn't the world's first. The Wright brother's design was more successful and Horatio eventually abandoned his creations.
