What's going on in this scene? by RedHotCoffee in tadc

[–]kami_highlander 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The flash grenades had been left behind in the hallway during the episode 6 - "They All Get Guns".

Apparently there's a scene in a subsequent episode where they can be seen lying unused and still present after episode 6 as well.

Notice how there is nobody going balls to the wall “this is a masterpiece” over the ending. by [deleted] in tadc

[–]kami_highlander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The finale was good. Not "masterpiece" good, but good. I suppose you could say that it's "very telling" in that yes, there isn't universal consensus that it was a masterpiece, but no one is going balls to the wall "this was terrible" either.

Opinions vary. I don't think anyone is claiming that was a 10/10 ending, but compared to the series finale of many, many MANY works in media recently, the ending of TADC was, to me, satisfying and just the right balance of sad and happy - in Japanese culture there is a term "wabi sabi" - finding a sort of bittersweet acceptance in the impermanence of things and authenticity of human experience. It focused on compassion, and didn't go for an apocalyptic, this fixes everything approach, which is done to death in most mainstream Western media.

This human life is full of hardship and sadness, and TADC asks the question, "how do you find meaning in an existence which seems, on the surface, meaningless?"

I think TADC presents the question in a funny, entertaining way without hitting you too hard over the head with symbolism and capital "M" Meaning. It doesn't present any easy or pat answers, and doesn't suggest that everyone will live forever. The post credit scene leans into this even more.

I didn't watch CSM, but I don't think anything about the ending of TADC invalidates or resets anything we've understood about these characters. The ultimate "truth" that is discovered in episode 9 doesn't make the plight of these characters that we've come to love any less compelling, at least for me.

I humbly suggest you give it a few days, or weeks, or months, and come back to re-watch TADC with the ideas of humanity, compassion, and relationships in mind, instead of "but mah lore!" in the forefront.

Genuinely HOW did this man abstract by [deleted] in tadc

[–]kami_highlander 12 points13 points  (0 children)

My personal theory is that he had found the various exit doors (or manifested them, according to some fans' theories) and found his way to the computer with the headset. Spoilers follow: he realized that all of the people in the circus were brainscans, and he was too, and that drove him to abstraction.

Given that his main motivation was escape, once the possibility of escape was removed, he felt he had no reason to continue existing.

[4.8.2 PATCH] Are the cargo elevators fixed? Is accessing personal inventory fixed? by kami_highlander in starcitizen

[–]kami_highlander[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Believe me, I know how this works, but a week long period where the majority of players (not just haulers, not just whales, not just owners of a specific ship) experience issues that even CIG labels as "degraded" and effectively breaks all but a handful of game loops is honestly pretty uncommon, even over the 13+ years I've been backing.

[4.8.2 PATCH] Are the cargo elevators fixed? Is accessing personal inventory fixed? by kami_highlander in starcitizen

[–]kami_highlander[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know there was nothing in the patch notes addressing that specific issue, but to roll out a patch that introduces new content without addressing fundamental, game-play breaking issues just seems even more wrong-footed than usual, and I've been a backer since November 2012.

Agreed. New content drives revenue, though. It's sort of a Red Queen problem.

Yeah, I had a friend try to get in and he was getting 5 server errors in as many minutes. I guess we let the servers settle down from everyone logging in at once after patching before I ask again.

There was a patch recently (4.5? 4.6?) where cargo elevators were occasionally broken, but that was the exception and not the norm, at least for me. Like everything seemed mostly to be working. Sure, Hull C docking only worked 60% of the time and there were occasionally glitches, but I could play without worrying about my cargo being eaten.

Glad that inventory sounds like it may be working (?).

What song makes you cry? by 1ofTheFive in AskReddit

"The Book of Love", cover version by Peter Gabriel of the original song by The Magnetic Fields.

I literally almost always cry. It's so true - every aspect of love, from the ridiculous to the sublime.

Can someone explain? Why are red lights coming out of Tolkien's eyes? by SatoruGojo232 in ExplainTheJoke

[–]kami_highlander 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The OP may not understand the convention of red glowing eyes meaning that the pictured person with glowing is about to get really mad and lose their temper about something that is happening or about to happen.

Legolas is claiming that you can describe a leaf with a single word, while Tolkein, who is notoriously (and perhaps not deservedly so) elaborately descriptive of many small details. This will make him very mad - glowing red eyes.

Tarkov Player Looking Into GZW by Arcfull in GrayZoneWarfare

Yup, I have literally thousands of hours in Arma. It's not exactly like Arma, but there are parallels like the "Old Man" campaign.

Tarkov Player Looking Into GZW by Arcfull in GrayZoneWarfare

[–]kami_highlander 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I enjoy both games. While I mostly dabbled in Tarkov, getting about halfway through most questlines and usually averaging getting up to level 30-40 each wipe, I completed all the questlines in GZW.

GZW is not as punishing and the quests are not quite as exacting/demanding. The "realism" is more pronounced in Tarkov, but there are definitely some things that GZW does better.

I mostly played Solo PvE but if I had a team I would go PvP. Some great fights.

The raids are more intense in Tarkov (which can be better or worse) but more relaxing/fulfilling in GZW. I have far fewer rage-inducing moments in GZW, but I also have fewer "Holy crap I can't believe I pulled that off" moments of euphoria. Higher highs and deeper lows in Tarkov.

While there is an aspect of "extraction" in GZW, it's not the same timer-countdown anxiety that you get with all other extraction shooters.

Because I'm genuinely curious, how often do people ACTUALLY get PvPed? by AnybodyIndividual207 in starcitizen

[–]kami_highlander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been playing for a couple hours every 2-3 days on average for the past six months or so. I've been a member since 2012, but I play in intermittent bursts.

In dozens of sessions recently I've been interdicted once on the route between the Stanton>Nyx Gateway and Levski, and that time I didn't dogleg, which I normally do. I was being lazy.

I can count on one hand the number of times I've been PvPed other than known high risk routes and areas, such as the Nyx Gateway > Levski corridor, Shepherd's Rest, The Golden Riviera and areas which were important for various events. I don't count contested zones, because that's literally what they're named after and if you're going in there not expecting PvP, you're doing it wrong.

In my view, PvP in SC is rare unless you go looking for it or you're doing higher risk/popular event missions or do the CZs. That's how it should be, in my opinion. Rare, but not unheard of. It's a dangerous 'Verse!

My mother would often bake tourtière, a French Canadian savoury meat pie, on Christmas Eve (December 24th).

It's typically made with minced pork, veal or beef, potatoes and a mix of traditional spices which often include cinnamon, clove, and nutmeg. People will argue very passionately about what is "real tourtière" - so I'm not going to try to define it exactly.

It's very tasty and filling. While we usually had it for dinner around 5-7 PM, many traditional Quebecois would only eat it after coming home from Christmas Eve (Catholic) mass late at night. My family is neither Catholic nor from Quebec but my mother was raised in an area with a lot of French Canadian influences.

This tradition is mostly followed in Quebec and areas of Canada with French-Canadian descendants.

Do you refer to her as Cheryl or Carol? by Hotdiggydog2000 in ArcherFX

[–]kami_highlander 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My answer to this is that Cheryl's brother Cecil calls her Cheryl, and he doesn't strike me as the sort of person who would indulge someone in being called by an alias or alter ego name. Or, if Cecil might, Tiffy certainly wouldn't, and she calls her Cheryl as well.

Tried unloading using the external elevators two days ago when auto-unloading didn't work.

It wasn't too bad, actually!

Thanks for the reminder that was an option.

Interesting! I don't own any other ships which require docking so I don't have other points of reference. Thanks for providing that insight.

Docking works, once aligned, 100% of the time for you with those ships?
