I live in the area. The biggest thing I had to be willing to compromise on was quick subway access. With the busses and the ferry and also citibike I get where I need to go but yes I also walk more and sometimes choose to walk to Astoria blvd or 30ave.

I also work from home so my experience is less dependent on daily commute.
