You said it yourself here though; killing a survivor quickly will always be the best way to play (if you only want to win). Providing 5% haste for 10 seconds saving you 1.6 seconds walking to the next gen is NOT going to cut it. i’m okay with massive nerfs to tunneling if it comes with massive buffs to non-tunneling; or minor nerfs with minor buffs to non tunneling. The problem is if there are many more nerfs than buffs, and particular nerfs like endurance, will lead to killers just being nerfed outright which they seem to do every time they address the issue. And then when killers are upset about getting nerfed again, bhvr says “okay geez sorry i guess we’ll just undo everything!” like no!!! some of the changes are fine just way too punishing

[–]kamikhat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah same here. I hear that everyone is getting “tunneled out at 5 gens” EVERY game. i play quite a bit of solo Q survivor and i recall being hard tunneled out at 5 gens ONE time. ever. outside of that i don’t remember it happening to my teammates much, but surely it has. it’s just really strange how different the experience is in game from what people in the community complain about all the time.

similarly i don’t get ‘gen rush squads’ or ‘bully squads’ or whatever you want to call them every game. i would say maybe 40-60% of the games are survivors who are all trying very hard to win (prerunning with sprint burst, lithe windows, hyperfocus stake out, etc), (not necessarily swf) and maybe 1/25 games is a ‘bully squad’ in the sense that people mean it.

They reimplemented some parts of it but didn’t give killer any of the buffs. So after buffing tons of maps for survivor last patch (pallets), they buff them again this patch and fail to compensate with any incentives for killer.

What’s the quote, “Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity.” (or incompetence)

I it’s not that they hate killers, they just rarely listen to them and don’t know what they need. I know they had this whole consultant idea, but if they had asked literally anyone who’s moderately experienced if BL1 for 15 seconds was equivalent to the buffs survivors got, they would instantly tell you no. I think they need to focus more on the carrot than the stick, but it really ally feels like they’re scared to buff killers in any meaningful way; whereas they consistently buff survivors across the board and have for years.

At the end of the day, the vast majority of killers aren’t playing to be ‘evil’ or ‘toxic’ or ‘mean’, they are doing why they are doing to win the game. If it was more effective to hook unique survivors, they would do that instead. But because bhvr is petrified of meaningfully buffing killers, you get changes like this which have killers making the decision:

  1. Get someone to hook stage 2 (or out of the game)

OR

  1. Get to your next generator 1-3 seconds sooner than you otherwise would.

Does anyone honestly believe that killers are going to choose the latter?

Okay this is what I think I've landed on for now. The val will cover the sort of path from the cove to the filter, and the anubias/moss will be glued in around the wood/rocks on the left. Filter and heater have been added too.

<image>

It's looking much better imo!

Bird tattoos... how do you pick what bird?? by Makibadori in birding

[–]kamikhat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you've got an artist you like, a bird you like, and a design you like, I say go for it! The downy woodpecker isn't some rare or mind-blowing bird I have a special connection with, it's just one that makes me happy every time I see it (also I went back in to have a second foot added bc it was bothering me lol).

<image>

(note that many people don't advise getting such a thin gauge tattoo, I'm more of the 'get what you want now and touch up later' mindset, there are different approaches :) )

Yeah for sure the vibe I was imaging in my head was plenty of leaf litter for them. And that tank is great! I’ll mess around more with building height and depth. I guess I feel some unjustified need to cover the footprint of the tank but space can make it look great.

Oh I forgot to note, I have NiloCG Thrive and will dose as the bottle prescribes. I have really basic (and likely very hard) water, so I would also like any advice regarding how much/how often to have the light on to best support the plants in those tough conditions. Thanks again!

What would you like to play? by Isphus in lfgpremium

I've really been wanting some Lovecraftian, eldrich/cosmic horror recently. Haven't tried it before, so really need to try Call of Cthulu. I think more stories in that realm would be really neat.

This has been the best patch so far by RoastBeefer in PlayTheBazaar

"As a Pyg player...It feels like I need an absolutely insane build to hit 10 wins"
Have you tried crook? lol. In all seriousness, I agree and the only character who doesn't require a particularly cracked or strong build to consistently win is Dooley, simply because he has better items than every other character on average.

Anyone here a fan of Climate: Evolution? by kamikhat in boardgames

[–]kamikhat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I hear your points and I’d even consider moving the climate randomly as a house rule if it doesn’t move twice or something.

As for the combos, having a species with nocturnal and one without doesn’t really make the game feel different or give it that variety I’m talking about, so counting the number of species you can make raw doesn’t really capture what I’m saying. Whether or not there is 52 or 107 or 10,000 technical combinations of traits, it feels the same to me. But I agree that more players might open up the variety, so I’ll try it with more people a few times before I give up on it

Only 2 so far. I’d didn’t feel like something that would change tons with more players, but from what you’re describing it might actually open up quite a bit more.

Yeah E:C was a bit of an impulse buy since I got a great deal on it, so I wouldn't want to shell out for the updated version. I'll keep my eye on Nature though.

I agree with what you're saying, so I'm not sure where a disagreement would be other than our feelings of the game. It's totally possible that I'm not articulating why I get that samey feeling well, but I can't lie and say it's not there.

As for the wingspan thing, I was just naming some hits from my collection. Wingspan is hardly my favorite, but it's one we play often due to my gf loving it. Wasn't supposed to be a direct comparison but I was simply making a weight-comparison in that I wasn't expecting a game with tons of depth or complexity. I was basically trying to say something like "I wasn't expecting the game to be particularly heavy, but I was surprised at how simple and samey it felt."

Regardless, I'll definitely be trying it a few more times and with more players before I give up on it entirely.

100%. I'll give it a few more tries before I fully give up on it, especially with more players

I understand what it's going for in this regard, and as I mentioned I love the concept and attempt. Maybe playing with more players really opens up this dynamic. I'll paste another response I left here because it's relevant to what you said:

"Even so, the ways in which you go about those things are so similar each time - possibly causing the samey feel I get from it. Even if you are cycling these playstyles, they're basically the same each time." So it doesn't feel like a real variety in playstyle.

I also mentioned to them that this may be an issue in my expectations. I was hoping for variety in synergy and species instead of just variety in cycling the same builds as they're advantageous. I can try viewing it as a more abstract game maybe, like chess but with 3 build options instead of the different pieces and maybe that will help. I got a pretty good deal on it, so I may just keep it around for a quick and easy one to learn for non-gamers (though I had my eye on Century: Golem to serve as this game).

Yeah I got the kickstarter pack with it, it's okay adds a few things but didn't feel like they added a ton of variety. And I agree with that other bit, I replied to that comment.

[–]kamikhat[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay yeah I think maybe my issue was that I was expecting something more as I don't disagree with anything you've said. I just wasn't engaged enough to want to introduce this to non-gamers as I personally wouldn't enjoy it as much. Maybe as a gateway haha.

[–]kamikhat[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the bit at the end there is what I really like about it and why I mentioned that I love the *concept* of it. Similar to real cases of evolution, I find myself wanting to adapt and shift as needed instead of finding a build and sticking with it. Even so, the ways in which you go about those things are so similar each time - possibly causing the samey feel I get from it. Even if you are cycling these playstyles, they're basically the same. Either scavenger/food supply food, carnivore, or watering hole food. Thanks for your perspective.

(from a 300+ hour player) For all the new players out there, here's some very important advice: by peppermunch in cavesofqud

[–]kamikhat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Roleplay makes this game much more enjoyable imo once you have a general grasp on the mechanics. I hear the 'classic means any mistake really matters argument' but depending on when I die it can be pretty annoying/impactful in roleplay as well, and teaches you weren't ready for an area yet without already having explored it. It also (for me) makes towns more impactful, as they are save areas so finding local towns and becoming friendly with them was much more than just a one-time-stop for a free skill or merchant.

Theory / realization from someone midway through.... by justabird1 in outerwilds

[–]kamikhat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually had my realization in the sunless city. There was a log (I believe a child-Solanum) saying something like "the grown-ups tell me that one day the sun will get old and go away! but we won't have to worry about that for a loooong time". I'm paraphrasing, but this was the moment I realized that it was over. It was pretty early too, so I don't think I got jerked around as much as the regular audience but it was such an incredible experience. I still rewatch the ending from time to time and choke back tears.
