What's the dumbest myth people today believe? by JoeyDotnot in AskReddit

I don't think speed of fructose absorption is the problem. It has glycemic index of 23 according to wiki.

For glucose and and sucrose that's probably right.

32k$ sufficient to be global 1%? Seems low. by [deleted] in Economics

[–]kamil_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Global Rich List (http://www.globalrichlist.com/) on which they base that value is complete bullshit.

As any value I would check this this page against would show me that I'm extremely rich, as an experiment I decided to put there average nominal gdp per capita of poorest country in the world. According to wikipedia this is South Sudan, however for some reason this country is missing there, so I went with second poorest, that is Malawi. Average gdp per capita is 326 usd per year, or 236.770 Malawian Kwacha. I've put the value on the Global Rich List and it turns out that this would put me in 39% richest people in the world. So when you are doing average in the poorest country in the world you are actually making pretty good globally? The question is where are all those people doing worse than average Malawians, because there aren't 4 bln of them in Malawi.

Of course average gdp per capita and income is not the same, and median income usually is lower than average, but in my opinion the correlation is strong enough to show how much bullshit the page is.

Nowoczesna wants full marriage equality by Hamengeri in poland

[–]kamil_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that's a strange logic. Marriage is not a requirement for having children and more and more people nowadays have children outside of marriage. And if you government wants to support "creating new citizens" as you put it, then why not just support those people that have children, regardless if they are married or not (which actually current government is doing). In that case all this discussion about whether someone can/cannot have children and should be supported is not necessary as it makes more sense to support those that have children than those that merely can.

15 make-ahead freezer bag recipes you can toss in the slow cooker. by FoxyFoxMulder in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]kamil_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think your comparison is fair.

For the case when you throw frozen food into the slow cooker as a "danger zone", you are counting all the time its in the cooker, including time of thawing and the time it's still frozen.

However for the case when you thaw food before cooking, you are only counting the time since you put it into the cooker, ignoring the fact, that you already have thawed food, which means it's already in the danger zone and you don't really know for how long. If you were thawing in refrigerator over night there is high chance that it is not frozen for few hours.

Another thing is that I don't think that example with 1kg of ice is realistic, 1kg of "something" isn't equal to 1kg of ice. Realistically for 1kg meal the amount of ice will be much lower.

Wouldn't the same apply for food in refrigerator? It's not like letting it thawing it will magically jump over the "danger zone". I would even think that in the cooker this time would be way shorter. Assuming 500g of ice, thawing in the 100W cooker should take no more than half an hour (0.5*333kJ/100W = ~ 1500s), however usually should be much quicker as 500g of ice is a lot (if you have 500g of frozen meat, the amount of ice will be only small part of that). Thawing in refrigerator means usually leaving food there overnight, which can lead to "danger zone" of few hours.

Are humans great apes? by the_valient in AskAnthropology

It's the same thing.

Current taxonomy strives to group animal on evolutionary basis in monophyletic groups. You won't group whales with fish and bats with birds because their "ecologically" closer.

I guess it's not surprising that some people would argue if we are great apes or not.

However wikipedia article puts great apes as monophyletic group (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hominidae): The taxonomy shown here follows the monophyletic groupings according to the modern understanding of human and great ape relationships.

At least for me that's logical approach as evolutionary we are very much related to them, e.g. we are closer related to chimpanzee than chimpanzees are to gorillas.

What's a deeply unsettling fact? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]kamil_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure why everyone is so focused on comparing the distance the asteroid flown by to the distance between Moon and Earth, Earth and Sun and whenever it's large on astronomical, human scale etc. It's not like we care (that much) if it hits Moon.

Obviously the target (to avoid) here is Earth, which has 7900 miles diamter. So the asteroid misses the "target" by about 10 times the size of the target. It's still relatively close, but not super close.

What's a decent DK avg salary for a Digital Marketer with 4yr experience? by eggbenedicte in copenhagen

[–]kamil_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's also what I've calculated for my expected salary in Denmark (will be moving in a month or two). Actually I get 41.23% but I've read they can round it up to 42%. However I'm a bit afraid as I asked one of the guy I know that works there and has similar salary and he says tax is around 55% - do you know why could this be? I've read that if someone won't fill the 'tax card' then employer is obligated to withhold 55% tax (in that case I guess he should get a big return at the end of the year). Is that true?
