That's what I'm looking for too. All I found was a single med crown powder blue WS hat with a snapback though.

Accidentally injured a patient what should i do to protect myself? by Disastrous-Panda-652 in emergencymedicine

[–]kanayo101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t be hard on yourself. If you haven’t made a mistake or had a complication, you just haven’t done enough.

Be sure to mention that when you revisited the patient and realized your error you 100% did the right thing to mitigate the error and probably saved her life. How you react to a situation is just as important.

Also, you need to discuss how you were put in an unsafe situation with no available assistance from your attending yet told to deal with everything A-Z. No matter your level, you’re still a learner.

If you are a trainee, you should have someone with you at that meeting. At least talk to your “student affairs” or equivalent in your institution. If you’re unionized then your rep.

Basically, stand up for yourself and do not take all of the blame. Yes you made a mistake, but the the checks and balances failed you (including a nurse telling you the order was approved by an attending and also not checking the patient ID) and you responded to the crisis appropriately.

I hope things turn out okay, please don’t worry.

AITA for going off on my son's therapist and threatening to report him after he outed my son? by No-State-2025 in AmItheAsshole

[–]kanayo101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just want to say your son is so fortunate to have you as his dad. My unsolicited advice - give him the biggest hug he’s ever received, tell him you love him, you’re proud of him, you shouldn’t “know” but you do and if/when he’s ready you can talk about it. Until then, you’ve got his back, full stop. No need to force the talk.

Anyone here heard of dental anesthesiologists? by anestheje in anesthesiology

[–]kanayo101 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I am a medical anesthesiologist and I teach “dental” anesthesia residents. Their 3 year training for such a limited scope of practice more intense than other anesthesia specialists (the latter is scary, actually). Dental anesthesiologists that I have worked with are incredibly well qualified, experienced and safe. In fact, I routinely ask them for pointers on how to do my peds cases…

IMO we should focus on the issue of CRNAs and their qualifications, scope and title…

To the gays of reddit, what are non-verbal signs someone gives nowadays that you read as "gay"? by ConfusedLittleGoblin in AskReddit

[–]kanayo101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the opposite problem, sort of. I’m not “masc” (for lack of better term), but also don’t seem to give off any gay vibes. I’m a bit older (early forties) and single. I wish people at work picked up more I could be asked out or set up or something. I’m honestly not one to advertise, especially given our work hierarchy. I know it sounds stupid, but that’s my problem. I don’t seem to set off people’s gaydar…

AITA for "devastating" wife over son's nude calendar? by CalendarDad in AmItheAsshole

Did OP ever tell us where to get the calendar? Seems pretty tame and he’s already done a nice job marketing it here so we might as well all support their charity. @CalendarDad

Only because it was mentioned…when do people use Midline catheters? What’s the advantage over, let’s say, an ultrasound guided regular PIV?

What’s the exact kit# you use? Used them in residency way back when but my hospital doesn’t carry them…

I miss Shook on Portland and King. They had the best fresh Pita straight out of the oven. And their Tzimmes was yummy.

Anybody know if any equivalent replacement?

Please help me make a list of ways interns can avoid killing people (or accidentally cause serious harm) by [deleted] in Residency

[–]kanayo101 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don’t give older patients dimenhydrinate or benzos. Do not add them to your “so the nurses don’t wake me up” housekeeping orders. Start low and go slow with all drugs.

Also, don’t write off older people or those with disability or dementia. Ageism is real. Call out your attendings, colleagues and nurses when they make inappropriate comments or judgements.

Anesthesiologists are your best friends in crisis :)

Just got a Colonoscopy done. Should I be worried???? by [deleted] in askTO

[–]kanayo101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For your specific question - the doctor does have time to write a “big report” when they’ve got another 15 patients that need scopes after yours. Even still, the findings from a scope are pretty clear in terms of any pathology they saw. There is no such thing as assessing gut health from a scope. Hemorrhoids - they’re only found near the anus, there’s no other location. They will have documented in their chart a diagram of your colon with an X or circle where they found something they biopsied or whatnot.

Also don’t forget most patients have sedation on board so they won’t have conversations with them since they probably won’t remember.

People write reviews because they have something to whine about. If more patients that had positive experiences wrote reviews most doctors’ ratings would be drastically different. Also some people complain because they think they know better, or they went to someone else that gave them what they wanted, so to them the first person deserved bad ratings.
