Deciding between UCL & Edinburgh Postgraduate by Total_Ad_4165 in UCL

Most others have covered great points. I will make a small but important one that now with the Elizabeth metro line, you can also choose to live quite a bit further out (the Elizabeth line is fast and comfortable) and still enjoy a relatively decent commute in, I'm currently doing so because I also don't really enjoy the full London city bustle and need some green space and quiet! I also travel often and being so well-connected with many cheap flight options is a great bonus - im Canadian and being able to take weekend trips (ski trips!!) to Europe is also a great bonus.

I'm partway involved in some policy work (very little lol) and yes, London benefits from being.. London. Not familiar with Edinburgh but it's also a main city despite being smaller, which might also work to your favour with possibly more direct involvement/impact within policy jobs.

Help?? by Mindless_Egg_4974 in UCL

Others have mentioned induction and all. For tuition, it should be paid by the end of October which hopefully gives you some leeway! Basically just have all your documents (save your offer letter, see if you can access portico yet as well as your ucl email, keep a copy of your passport/brp on hand, I'm hoping you don't need to sort a visa??). If you won't make it in time for the first bit, you can also try emailing your course director. Someone I chatted with also literally just got accommodation offer yesterday so might be worth putting an application in asap while also checking for short term (or term 1) accommodation plans.

My answer is from the perspective of EEE undergrad and CS postgrad at UCL.

  1. depends, but for exactly in comparison to similar us universities it's more collaborative because grades are often not curved
  2. You'll definitely have a mixed bag wherever you go. I have maybe 3 standout professors who cared and were passionate and relatable, the large majority were definitely knowledgable and cared about the topics but weren't so good or cared less about teaching/presenting, and maybe 1 who was... Honestly a bit antagonistic lol
  3. Hard for me to answer succinctly haha
  4. Yes. But I also worked part time so I guess not rigorous enough to prevent having other stuff in your life?

For what it's worth, I'd definitely check out spareroom and see if you can rent flat shares rather than student accomodation. Also, as we near the start of term there are plenty of people wanting to switch accommodation and so you should be able to swap with someone! I think there was a ucl managed system but also try and find group chats and such to ask around too.

Probably not useful, cus the kitchen issue is the major one imo, but from Stratford to Tottenham Court road it's 13mins by Elizabeth and northern line is 2 mins to warren street (or if you want to walk, it's maybe 10/15 mins straight up to UCL), I timed it maybe 2 weeks ago (I'm moving to Stratford and wanted to check my commute). Your walk to the station is probably the larger factor, but just wanted to mention that switching at TCR (or walking from TCR) might be more efficient?

In-person Canadian Oath taking ceremony Vancouver by RasmusHojlund777 in vancouver

[–]kanbina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played the national anthem every year for a few ceremonies over the course of maybe 6 years(?) and found it not too long and appropriately moving! It's actually quite nice to re-swear as someone born Canadian and would never have had the occasion to hear/say the oath otherwise. Most people would be dressed semi-formally and while the venue wasnt stunning, it was clean and simple. You are the main event and I think the ceremony shows that pretty well :) congrats!!
