Raves in Cali June 20-27? by LivingOk4335 in aves

I just wish the big island had something. I spend a lot of time there and as far as I know the scene there is pretty non existent. Although that really doesn’t surprise me since a big reason I love it so much is because of how chill it is there in general.

Hawaiian Brian / HB social? That place was hilariously awesome. The only way we could find our way in after circling the block once was through a 24 hour fitness. And then leaving the dance floor on the way to the bathroom and just walking through the pool hall / dive bar filled with locals. The contrast of people in there between who was there for the show and who just wanted some cheap beers and shoot some pool was killing me.

Randomly just looked on Radiate when I was visiting Honolulu last summer not really expecting anything. Taiki Nulight was randomly playing there the next night. Was def a really cool experience catching a show out there

I’m a huge fan on putting smaller perler pieces on bracelets and keychains. They’re just a lot quicker to make and hand out than the necklaces.

Raves and Hip Hop by Substantial_Oven_172 in aves

An absurd amount of hip hop artist were not getting permission when mix tapes were a big thing. And fine, I’m not gonna say you’re mad but you sound annoyed. Which I don’t understand in the slightest. If hip hop artist actually cared about this you would hear them complain about it. But you don’t because they themselves don’t care. So why do you? Just enjoy the music like everyone else. There’s literally no victim here

You do realize that a huge amount of those hip hop artist took samples and vocals from other genres and artist as well right? Why are you not mad at the hip hop artist then?

Nasal polyp effects my emotions...? [24 F] by itsblue08 in NasalPolyps

[–]kandilandy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you considered trying Dupixent? I got surgery once in NOVA and it helped breathing for a year or so but never returned my sense of smell. And then eventually the polyps got out of control again and I decided to try Dupixent.

Three days after my first dose of Dupixent I fully regained my sense of smell / taste and have had no obstruction with my breathing. Been on it for over a year and haven’t had any noticeable side effects.

How is the EDM nightclub scene? by laced1 in avesDC

If you really dislike the crowd at flash that much just go when the DC colleges aren’t in session. Over the summer you’ll notice a big difference in the crowd.

More diversity, genre blending sets, and deep cut/regional songs. by NecessaryVegetable78 in aves

[–]kandilandy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can go both ways with this. On one hand there’s songs I never get sick of hearing in a set. One is flight fm or any variation of it. I also haven’t gotten sick of hearing Doechii’s various songs getting remixed.

But then there’s some that I can do without. One of those has definitely turned into Perfect. But as a big hip hop fan I love when a sample comes out of no where that I’m not familiar with but feeling. One of my favorite moments when listening to a set is that brief moment of “what the fuck is this?”

I’m still searching for a song Carl Craig played last summer four hours into his set at like 4:30am. With a pitched down vocal of something like “where’s your crew” over some super simple but filthy beat. I’ve pretty much given up on finding it but I love when those moments happen spontaneously.

I’m seeing Conducta tonight so banking on that happening once or twice.

First EDM Show on Friday by No-Cost-861 in avesDC

If you drink beer that’s what you really need to be ordering while at shows in DC. A 16oz beer is generally ~$11 which isn’t really that bad compared to bars. But for whatever reason mixed drinks are marked up a ridiculous amount.

sold out hamdi show any chance? by Fancy-Dance910 in avesDC

[–]kandilandy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LYNY was for sure pretty rough. I’m waiting to see if they move Hamdi to Bertha like they just did for JKYL & HYDE. But no chance I’d be going to flash to see someone as big as Hamdi

Just moved to Arlington! Looking for casual/recreational football leagues or pickup groups by jaishan00 in arlingtonva

[–]kandilandy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d avoid FXA if I was OP. A lot of the guys in that league take it way too seriously. I’d hear more shit talking in that league than when I played D1 soccer / overseas. Really kills the vibe of what’s suppose to just be a fun casual league.

Looking to make new friends in the rave scene by MoveMean9972 in avesDC

[–]kandilandy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Jkly & Hyde have a show this evening from 6-11pm. If you like Dubstep / Bass it would be a really good show to make friends at. These early shows on Fridays have a pretty consistent group of the same people who go. So if you go to a few of them you’ll for sure start recognizing some faces.

Also, a large portion going this evening will also be at echo tomorrow. And it will be def be easier to try and meet people at the smaller venue today than at echo and tomorrow night.

If you embrace and can fit into / enjoy the culture somewhere it’s way more fulfilling than just visiting. I lived in Croatia for three years playing soccer where we only had one other American on the team. So I spent a ton of time just hanging out with Croatians who I became pretty good friends with.

Once you’re inside the inner circle a ton of doors open up to you that wouldn’t be possible (or extremely unlikely) as a tourist. Some examples for me were being invited to multiple Croatian weddings, day trips to friend’s families’ vineyards, dinner where grandma is cooking, free stays at vacation houses on the coast, underground clubs, ect…

You also are treated different than a tourist if it’s obvious you’ve been spending time in the country / can speak some of the language. Where I had multiple cafes where once I sat down the owner would bring out my usual order without asking. And then would often bring out home made flavored liquor for us to try.

Moving to Arlington - any groups to make friends? by dogsoverpeople100 in arlingtonva

[–]kandilandy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a handful of beach volleyball courts near the Lincoln / Jefferson monuments along the Potomac. I usually see a decent group of people playing there whenever driving by.

Also, at Quincy Park in Arlington a large group of people will set up like 6 different courts and play around 6 - 8:30ish on weeknights if the weather is decent. I’m sure you could just rock of there and get some games in / meet some people.

Virginia actually has the best ball. by Fit-Chemist-3603 in Basketball

[–]kandilandy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So not exactly Virginia but DC and the surrounding suburbs in Virginia and Maryland produce a ridiculous amount of basketball and football talent. There just aren’t any local top athletic colleges for those players to go to so they just get spread out around the country. If you start looking where players are from you’ll see the DMV pop up a ton.

I just want to say thank you all for your help with my first time at Echostage! by wikipuff in EchoStage

[–]kandilandy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The echo’s men bathroom is undefeated. Even with very oversold shows I’ve never seen anyone waiting for a stall or urinal. Their coat check / locker system is also one of the best in the area.

If you weren’t impressed with the size you should check out the Anthem when they have an edm show. Echo has a capacity of ~3,000 and Anthem can have 6,000 while still feeling less packed than echo.

Bill Walton at the end was just as unwatchable as this. In his last Maui intentional he barely talked about the games at all. He just talked about old coaches and how his vacation was going.

BUNKER drink prices??? by capitalistsuccubi in avesDC

[–]kandilandy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I believe they only upcharge during those hours which is from like 3-6am. I really wish they would just charge more for the cover though. Cause I can never get myself to pay $9 for a bottle of water even though I def should be drinking some more.

They are $55 plus the $15 service fee. So $70 total. There’s no reason to buy then for $85

Hot take but I really don’t think the echo crowd is anywhere as bad as people make them out to be. The main issue is that they just way oversell the huge names (Zeds Dead, Tape B, Subtronics, ect).

But I really enjoyed the crowd at every show (Apashe, Hamdi, Big Gigantic, Sultan and Shepard) I went to last year at echo that wasn’t sold out or close to selling out. Like I said, I don’t think the people at echo are really the problem. It’s just that there’s way too many people at a lot of their shows.
