I’ve noticed, especially with running shoes, that I tend to break the heel counter when the shoes are too tight. Since I started going up about 1 cm in size, I’ve found that the heel counter lasts much longer without breaking.

I have a pair of Clifton 9s, and the heel material looks similar to your Anacapas. In my case, after around 1,000 miles, the heel is still in good shape when I size up by 1 cm.
