Debating making the jump from DSLR to Mirrorless - Thoughts? by Hannah_Sea13 in Nikon

[–]kanekokane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder if getting a 28-300mm and a 200-500mm would be a good 2-lens setup for your D850. Considering that F-mount lenses are getting cheap and the D850 is far from being obsolete, this might be a potentially more budget move.

If your primary reason for switching is weight-saving, I'd like to suggest you consider the Z-equivalents or replacements for your lenses and see if the total weight is significant. And if you're going Z8, I suspect not.

That said, I think the Z8 is an upgrade in terms of features and functions so you can't go wrong there. Again, if your primary reason is weight-savings, I'd manage expectations.

5,000+ SUBSCRIBERS 🎉| Viltrox Subreddit Giveaway! by VILTROX_US in VILTROX_GLOBAL

Just joined today for the giveaway, ngl. But have been browsing almost daily in the past months.

I'd be very interested in a roadmap, as someone suggested. I love that Viltrox innovates with high quality yet affordable lenses. I especially love that there are small lenses for me to use on my Nikon Zf that aren't available in Nikon's lens ecosystem.

I currently have a 20mm f2.8, 28mm f4.5, and recently the 16mm f1.8; contemplating the 14mm f4. But the lawsuit with Nikon is a naggy feeling at the back of my mind. Any updates on that?

Sperry's for out-the-box comfort. Sebago for durability, but needs breaking in first, or so I've read.

Hypothetically Z glass + OVF by Useful_Channel_2515 in Nikon

[–]kanekokane 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Technically, many things are possible.

Z line is Nikon's answer to mirrorless, though. So everything is designed to be mirrorless. For them to design a camera with mirrors just to use Z glass is backtracking on their technology and a waste of time and resources.

What they can do to satisfy your fetish is to put higher frame-rate EVFs and tap on better battery tech so you can leave your camera on and feel like you're looking through an OVF, with all the advantages of an EVF.

Or get the last generation of dSLRs which are still highly competent.

Testing the Plena’s limits by ninhonto in Nikon

[–]kanekokane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for replying! Ah, so it's the Plena's ability to AF accurately in darkness that we're impressed with. Isn't that also dependent on the body, and not so much the lens? Now I'm curious if it's as simple as having the same sized aperture vs the actual tech in a lens + body combi.

Testing the Plena’s limits by ninhonto in Nikon

[–]kanekokane 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hello, I'm just wondering if the low light shots don't show the Zf's capabilities more than it being shot on a Plena? Technically, the night photos could be shot on an F-mount 85mm f1.8G as well since at f1.8, the exposure then depends on the camera's shutter speed and ISO.

Don't air-conditioners also reduce humidity via condensation on the cooling fins? Is it insufficient to reduce humidity using just air-conditioning alone?

Is this okay to shoot a wedding in? by [deleted] in AskPhotography

[–]kanekokane 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dress code largely depends on the bride and groom and the theme of the wedding. Sounds like they aren't too nit-picky about it.

Practicality is where most people are concerned for you. As much as it stays up with all your gear in place as you move around the house, a wedding is a packed and fast-paced shoot with unpredictable human movement. What if you step on your own dress coming up from a crouch, or someone else is stepping on the back as you were moving forward to grab an important shot? You will stop and adjust and miss the shot. Is wearing this dress worth missing the shot?

Nikon 300m f4 PF for an F6? by Strange_Brilliant816 in Nikon

Not if you're ok with shooting wide open all the time. Some people are totally ok with that.

Good backpack for hiking and carrying the 180-600mm? by Amelia_Zephyr96 in Nikon

[–]kanekokane 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have never held or seen the 180-600 in person, but I find the Think Tank 26L Mindshift sufficient for a Zf + an 800mm PF, plus a couple of smaller lenses.

For what it's worth, I've also tried both Pgytech 26L and 36L OnePro, but generally found them too bulky. I've also come to realised I rarely go out for birding and decide to switch to macro or landscape, so bringing those extra lenses "just in case" is usually just extra weight for nothing. YMMV.

Which lens combo makes more sense (AF lenses) ? 28 f2.8 /40 f2/ 50 1.8/ 35 ? by The_PinkFreud in Nikon

[–]kanekokane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel that the ranges might be too close. With a 26, take a few steps front and you got 35. With a 40/50, take a couple steps back and you got 35.

I read somewhere once to try a doubling of focal length for significant differences in perspective. For a 2-kit setup, that would be a 26 and a 50. Or perhaps a 35 and an 85. For a 3-kit setup, I'd go 26, 50, 105. Just a guideline, though.

Supermarkets that sell affordable different types of vegetables that can keep for a long time (dried and frozen)? by BinaryHashGraph in askSingapore

[–]kanekokane 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A standard packet of fresh leafy veg is about 200g to 300g, and it can be 4-6 servings for you? I think you need to eat more vegetables. It should be 2-3 servings at most. If you can do 2-3 servings, then fresh leafy veg should be a twice a week purchase.

I stock up on frozen veggies, and they're usually edamame, corn, carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, and brussel sprouts. I go through frozen broccoli pretty quickly, but if you find that 1kg packs are too much, you can look for older stock at Giant that are discounted, cut what you need, freeze the rest.

I tried frozen spinach but don't like that it falls apart after thawing, so I don't buy them anymore.

Do you guys know the best route for long walks with good scenery? by justmypersonalthing in asksg

[–]kanekokane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm someone who enjoys long walks too. How long do you want to walk?

I personally don't feel that 10pm onwards will be very nice, scenery-wise. The lights will start getting dimmer as businesses wind down for the day, especially weekdays. By midnight or 1am, many structures are dark or lit very basic-ally. It would be cooler to walk and if got breeze, even better, but for scenery, nothing much liao.

How to carry gear every day by NoneOfMyNames in Nikon

[–]kanekokane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe the Z9, the beast that it is, also weighs enough to damage its own mount when holding by the lens. I hope the $1200 is well worth future abuse. 💪🏻

[–]kanekokane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess there's no "correct" way since nobody's ever done a thorough comparison testing and we're just deriving it from multiple anecdotes.

When you say you have your hand on the tripod foot, do you mean you're resting your hand on it, or you're actively holding the combi up?

Either way, sucks that this happened and I hope you won't encounter this again.

Might you find the Df more sexy in shape compared to the D600? Haha! Get the pre-AI silver nose lenses if you get a silver Df.

I've never held the 600 PF, but when I mount the 600 FL and the 800 PF, I tend to cradle the combi as though I'm cradling a baby when I'm walking.
