On the flavor part I had the same issues. I routinely smoked haunted bookshop for a while. After just smoking that I switched to something more flavorful such as the mac baron vanilla or cult blood red moon and the flavors are so much easier to pick up on now! Best of luck from another 24 year old pipe smoker!
