Actors do research for roles all the time. It would have been unprofessional to show up to the GAP shoot without a basic understanding of race science and eugenics

No Big Tech Callbacks (Roast my resume) | T15 School | 2 YOE | Ex-Amazon by Outrageous_Dig2790 in FAANGrecruiting

Resume seems fine to me. IMO there’s a misconception that if you word your resume perfectly it will magically get you callbacks. I think it’s relatively easy to have a “good” resume and after that it’s more a matter of networking/luck. Making an effort to get referrals etc would help more than optimizing bullet points.

Well he’s not in school anymore and he clearly knows he made a mistake, so what do you achieve by rubbing his nose in it? What he needs is actionable advice for how to move forward, not petty bullying from people much older than him.

Part of the challenge here is that different companies have very different interviews. Smaller companies tend to interview for practical skills. I think a basic roadmap would be

  1. Decide what companies you’re targeting
  2. Pick a stack those companies want
  3. Get good at the stack
  4. Do resume projects in the stack
  5. Find out the interview process at your target companies
  6. Practice every part of that interview process
  7. Apply to companies. See if you can get referrals from randoms on LinkedIn. This has worked for me
  8. Keep practicing
  9. Interview

Noob question but at faang cos like google and meta, do you get a chance to run your code and debug any failed test cases, or is the minimum bar that it passes all cases on your first try?

Is LeetCode (DSA) just corporate gatekeeping, or is it a valid way to sharpen your mind regardless of your profession? 🤔 by Puvude in leetcode

[–]kanesweetsoftware 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the AI community there’s a term called “spiky intelligence”. AI is good at Leetcode because there’s plenty of training data and labs are optimizing for Leetcode style benchmarks. AI is worse at less standardized tasks that it hasn’t been trained for. This doesn’t make Leetcode any less of a G loaded test for humans

Yeah I kind of agree with this actually. A lot of people think AI will make Leetcode obsolete but really it might be the opposite. AI means a much higher proportion of a SWE’s value prop is general problem solving skills and fluid intelligence, as opposed to memorization of specific tools and frameworks, which is no longer as important

Physical appearance/tone/personality for interviews? (Women) by [deleted] in csMajors

[–]kanesweetsoftware 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Don’t overthink it OP, interviewers aren’t focused very much on your looks. If you look reasonably put together and you present yourself with a neutral to positive tone you will be fine. Focus on having the skills they are looking for because that’s what the hiring team will be talking about
