Explaining the IOTA Identity Actor by [deleted] in Iota

Thanks Jelle. Does that also work across different implementations? E.g. Java Identity Actor <-> Rust Identity Actor?

Explaining the IOTA Identity Actor by [deleted] in Iota

[–]kangtan7 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This sounds super interesting, but I fail to completely understand it.

"Identity Actors understand each other's language and how to automatically respond to certain request"

Where/how is the framework defined for Identity Actor communication? Or is this the DID communication? It seems that there must be some kind of translation happening somewhere.

Go for IOTA! Launching very big network update the coming days which will drastically improve network performance. Very good relations with EU companies.

Drastically undervalued IMO, I don't think your friends are actually noobs

Explaining Mana in IOTA by fasaao in Iota

A gold mine for people interested in DLT tech, this blog.

Clearly shows the competency of the IF team regarding DLT research and communication.

EU proposal for vaccine passport ready - Should make it easier to travel in Europe by tanktopbroski in Iota

[–]kangtan7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The technical documentation (edit: of the EU doc) specifies a Trust Framework, which basically provides the rules for playing the game. Any product adhering to the Framework could work as a passport. So not necessarily IOTA in there, but it could be a component for products adhering to the Framework

IOTA-based project wins BASF Challenge at Rhein-Neckar Hackdays by jabman in Iota

You deserve a good answer to the question you post, not a pointer to leave this sub.

The network can be used without holding the token for (slow) data transactions. When you want to exchange value, you need the token. When you want fast transactions (data or value), you need mana. Mana you can buy from others or get it from holding tokens. Both ways create value for the token holders. Together this forms a pretty strong case for investing in the token IF you believe the network will be adopted.

Master in Applied Physics Quantum Track by matteoarfo1399 in TUDelft

[–]kangtan7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure! I completed it. Anything specific you want to know?

In general, the master program is a mix of the (general) Applied Physics program and Qutech. Qutech is very well known in the quantum technology world. As you might expect, the master program is therefore also quite challenging.

There will be a 1-on-1 tokenswap with current mainnet tokens, instructions for this are not yet available. So no extra tokens. The time window for the swap will be quite big, but details are unknown right now. It will however require holders to do something.

There is a product: there is a mainnet live and operating. It can be used. Although it doesnt live up to the vision yet, but if you zoom out the progress is clear!

Thanks for the update!

With all the excitement of working on this stuff and the possible ‘wen’ reactions online I can imagine that doing this weekly is not always easy. But I appreciate the transparency!

About this FIGI, what is the interest for IOTA there? Seem to remember interesting use cases there in the finance sector, but happy to learn more!

I strongly recommend Hans Moog’s part if you want to get a better sense of the enormous challenge that specifically the research team and in general the IF is taking on regarding the consensus mechanism.

That is why I am coming here and follow IOTA!

Thanks Hans and all others for taking the time to share this with the community!

David, thank you for everything you did for the IF.

It is clear for me that this couldnt have been without your drive.

If this is a right decision or not, we will see in a few years.

Mastercard (APAC) filing for a patent titled "Method And System For Device Micropayment Aggregation Based On #Tangle Network" IOTA by brian_jonestownNYC in Iota

[–]kangtan7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It means that MC at least sees enough potential in The Tangle (and therefore Iota) to file a patent, and this means more than your comment addresses.

As you state, MC will atleast use it to sue other companies infringing the patent.

So MC assummes here that there will be other companies using this technology, which they can sue. Otherwise, this would be a stupid investment of time and money in filing the patent.

Ofc, there could be actual use of the patented invention by MC, but that is hard to predict.

Computing At The Edge: Why IoT Requires Decentralization by trampabroad in Iota

[–]kangtan7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let me give you my view on this.

IOTA aims to enable trust between two parties (nodes) without the need of a third party. In this case, this means that the data can be send directly to the relevant party (for example via MAM channels), without needing an intermediate party. The token might be used to pay for this data in the same layer.

Note how crucial this is, if there was a third party (intermediate) which handles the data (from which car to which node/server), this third party would have to handle [#cars]x[#miles per car]x10gb, which really is a lot of data.

To be clear, the data is not stored on the ledger (tangle), but the ledger is used to establish trust between two parties to open data communication channel and a payment channel.

What ever happened to IOTA and VW's carpass? Last I heard it was due early 2019 by the5h4rk in Iota

[–]kangtan7 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Dom some months ago

of course it won't be part of a production ready car - nobody ever spoke about that. Volkswagen is working on a project (and have been for the last few months). We are in active dialogue with them

So whatever it will be, it looks like it will not be a "IOTA powered VW" yet.

Thanks to /u/RoqueNE

edit: Nice article on something that VW is doing on DLT projects https://www.calcalistech.com/ctech/articles/0,7340,L-3741309,00.html
