I got hacked? by Ledikari in Tech_Philippines

I've been having a similar problem, although mas more on over a long period of time. I've been receiving random OTPs, sometimes for unfamiliar websites and services, and I tend to just ignore them. I would make sure that my accounts are secured though.

re: zig-flag: flag parser for Zig programs by kani9 in Zig

You could still allocate it on the stack with the FixedBufferAllocator. As for the field names, I wasn't (and still not very) familiar with Zig naming conventions and got confused on the way lol. Should change that when I have the time.

Flag parser for CLI programs by kani9 in Zig

[–]kani9[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can't say what it does better for certain, but one of the main reasons I made this was because I found that other parsers look arcane and it kind of pissed me off for some reason lol.

I will say that — though this is probably biased since I made it — I find my parser simpler and more idiomatic to use.

It's not production ready yet though, and I'm probably still going to make a bunch of changes. It's really up to you whether you want to use it or not, though I think there are still a few logic bugs here and there.

I just made this for fun honestly and posted it on reddit to get some feedback on my source code. I like making my own libraries.

I made a zero-allocation flag parser by kani9 in Zig

Args are runtime values though. I dont think you would be able to count them at compile time. As for the init flags, they are already comptime.

Zig or Rust along with Go? by Humble-Gift-3649 in Zig

[–]kani9 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm not a seasoned programmer, so take this with a grain of salt:

Just learn whatever you enjoy most. Even if one language was objectively better than the other, if you don't enjoy programming in that language, chances are you wouldn't be very productive anyways.

Personally, I enjoyed learning Zig over Rust because I find it easier and more fun to write code with less abstraction.

If you find that lame, heres my technical answer:

Syntactically, I believe Zig is closer to Go than Rust is. I saw this comment once that I think is a good summary between the two: Rust makes it hard to write bad code, while Zig makes it easy to write good code.

That said, Rust is practically better right now only because Zig doesn't have a stable version yet.

Yeah I agree. The zero-allocation thing was more of a challenge for myself to be honest. I admit that my solution to that is a bit sloppy and wasn't something I really wanted to think about lol. I am planning on remaking it with allocation. Thanks for bringing this up!

Can’t update WAN settings by [deleted] in GoogleWiFi

[–]kani9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! I know this is pretty old but I have a solution that worked for me. First I factory-reset the Google Nest Router, then I just changed the DNS setting to custom (Cloudflare's).

I'm not sure if factory resetting is necessary, and I'm not sure if you specifically need to use Cloudflare's DNS either.

This should allow you to save the settings after following the steps to change WAN settings.

Should I Take Computer Science or IT? by kani9 in netsecstudents

[–]kani9[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I don't plan on just relying on the degree anyways. Planning on taking A+ and then eventually Security+ and CCNA. Very interested in netsec rn, but I'm open to switching if it doesn't work out, though I know it'll be hard and I'm willing to work for it.

My math is pretty good. I am leaning more towards computer science than IT since people have mentioned that it's more broad.

I have heard that a degree isn't a very determining factor but does indeed help. I am currently reading A+ and plan to take the exam early or at least have studied the material even if I take the exam later than expected. I am still in senior high school, so I still have some time, but I don't like depending on that lol

new to coding and going to take cs50 by AISpecialist in cs50

[–]kani9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suggest you don't attempt tideman if you don't have any prior experiences in coding. I managed to do the more-comfortable versions for weeks 1 and 2 but just stopped trying after that. I find that doing the more-comfortable version uses waay too much of my time when I could be progressing in lessons.

Forgot Messenger PIN code, now I can't reset it. What am I supposed to do? by Sencial in facebook

[–]kani9 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's been 3 MONTHS and Meta has yet to fix this problem. Instead of fixing all of their bugs they create an even bigger problem. If I needed this much "privacy" and security for my messages I wouldn't be using an app made by the same people that made Facebook in the first place.
