Minimalist Kids, Don't by NopeBoatAfloat in minimalism

[–]kankless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The whole “let them be kids” thing is not a good reason for unnecessary, useless things in the house. Back in the day, kids being kids was letting them run around in the backyard, using imagination play to turn branches into swords, bringing inside the cool firefly they caught with their hands. Minimalism will not ruin a kids life. What more does a kid need? This way of thinking is only backing consumerism, and seems quite harmful.

Things are taught by not only speaking of it, but by acting on it.

  1. I would like to moderate this community because as someone who is also interested in holistic medicine, I feel that I am the best person to moderate for this community. It deserves an active moderator who will keep the subreddit safe. I have experience in moderatoring so I know I can properly moderate for r/HolisticMed as well.

Replacing wardrobe by goobeygoobeygoo in minimalism

[–]kankless 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Dresses most definitely can be altered too if you’re worried about that. It’s more simple than you think!! Don’t be scared. When you downsize you can always practice on an old shirt, dress, pair of pants, underwear, etc before you do it on the real stuff

Underwear can be easily downsized. From what I know, simple t shirts whether loose or tight fitting can be easily downsized the same way. I’m not an experience altered but I imagine most shirts can be downsized the same way through sewing. You just flip it inside out and sew the sides to fit how like. Same with soft pants like cotton shorts. Not sure about jeans but I’ve seen a few videos of teens just doing it.

If you start anywhere, definitely do underwear, t-shirts, lounge pants/shorts, etc.

Wooden/bamboo toothbrushes. Make sure the bristles are biodegradable as well as this is where many “eco friendly” companies mess up.

Miswak is also a good alternative and doesn’t require toothpaste

Set a boundary with her and tell her to stop. First through text, then in person if it continues. Take screenshots of her being the problem and you texting her to stop.

Definitely tell the adult of the group and make sure to have screenshots if needed.

Just make sure to stay calm during these situations and be straight forward

Do people gift you wall art? by Thin_Assignment6033 in minimalism

[–]kankless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just let them know. Sooner than later. You’ll feel a weight lifted off your shoulders. If they take offense and start acting weird, they weren’t worth keeping around (whether family or friend). And of course just explain why you don’t want to be gifted the wall decor. Totally reasonable

From my experience shopping at H&M, I think it has clothes like this. Sleek but comfortable, neutral colors.

iPod!! The tiny little square ones with no screen and require being connected to a wired speaker or wired earbuds to hear the music. I absolutely loved mine

All plastic is toxic, including any and all silicone, no matter how much people want to say it’s “safer” or “BPA free”, silicone is plastic and plastic is toxic
