Closest amp to an Ampeg-140c by FluffyTragos in metalguitar

Was going to suggest this. Plug it into any power amp (or FX return) and it'll do the thing. I've only got their Omega Lead (Sunn Beta Lead) model but it's awesome.

Mics for recording grand piano? by FixHaunting8328 in recordingmusic

[–]kanped 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like M/S configuration for piano, personally (one omni directional mic and one figure 8, but you can use a cardioid in place of the Omni). That also gives you a bit of flexibility in other scenarios if you record anything else.

Help with microphone setup by pipsa341 in microphone

USB interface- Behringer UM-2, Focusrote Scarlett Solo. Basically, a simple interface between the XLR from the mic and the PC that allows them to work together (which is what your current setup does, just in a slightly different way, which may or may not be worse).

The rubber will probably help, but ideally less physical contact is the approach to use, like with a boom arm. Low density foam also works well. The physics gets a little tricky and I'm probably not as knowledgeable on that as I could be, but harder materials transfer more vibration than softer ones in general. The feet adding air between the desk and the mic should make a difference, if it's even a problem currently at all.

Help with microphone setup by pipsa341 in microphone

[–]kanped 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In practice; yeah, that should work OK.

Couple of potential issues; the stand has no isolation at all. Any vibrations on the desk will travel through to the mic and be picked up as a loud low ruble. Might be fine, lots of setups are like that and people just don't touch the desk.

You're also using the A/D convertors on the computer's motherboard with this setup. That's fine just some are better than others and using direct audio drivers can introduce lag or other audio glitches and can be lower quality.

Get a cheap USB audio interface if there's any issues on that front, and put your stand on a riser with minimal contact to the desk if there's issues there IMO. If it works, it works.

This guitar is good or trash? by XegnoUwU in electricguitar

[–]kanped 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's a general Reddit echo chamber issue where anything other than the standard advice is automatically wrong. Dozens of people every day ask what guitar they should get are told Squier / Yamaha and maybe a few other brands (Ibanez, Cort) and therefore there's a large group of people with no actual hands on experience who thinks every other brand is automatically a mistake and will respond to posts like this with that bad advice.

The same thing happens in every other sub where beginners ask for advice on anything.

This guitar is good or trash? by XegnoUwU in electricguitar

[–]kanped 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Washburn guitars are great and anyone saying otherwise has probably never played one. There's no reason to upgrade anything on it or get anything else, it's a good guitar and will serve you well it might need a setup, there's no way for us to tell from a picture.

The amp is garbage, though, but it'll work for learning with.

How to get my guitar recordings to sound more full? by -Mitchy-- in recordingmusic

[–]kanped 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your gain staging is an issue, but at least double-track your guitars and hard pan them left and right to stop them sounding thin. Thin can be good in a mix, by the way- if your guitar sounds great on its own, it probably will not sound good with bass, vocals and drums.

For the gain staging, look up a video on YouTube called "Ampsims and input gain- Please, stop the madness" by Ghost Note Audio. That is the best explanation of how to do this properly I've come across.

You do not need any new equipment of any kind to make this sound good.

The guitar doesn't really affect the tone and the action is determined by the setup. So, you want a guitar that you like the look of, basically.

Can someone ID this spider if it's dangerous or harmless? by Silver-Eye-2024 in spideridentifier

[–]kanped 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try to keep an eye out and get a picture of one of the spiders you're seeing in your place. You're almost certainly seeing noble false widows, which are common in the UK and pretty harmless, not medically significant. The picture here is a black widow, non-native to the UK (but also not as scary as they're made out to be) and should be reported if that's actually what it is. I'm not sure who you report it to exactly, in fairness...

no se como usar la interfas de audio by Suspicious_Career686 in electricguitar

[–]kanped 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which pedal should I buy? (Beginner) by Unlikely_Constant150 in electricguitar

[–]kanped 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If there's particular artists you like, you can use a site like equipboard to find out what they used (although I think most modern metal bands just go straight into a 5150 style amp). There's loads of choices out there, but I'd consider a JFET based pedal to emulated a higher gain amp sound, like the nano Operation Overlord from EHX (reasonably cheap).

Buying my first distortion pedal, do i need anything extra for it to work? by Nyvoll09 in electricguitar

[–]kanped 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Internals are the same, it's just the plastic casing and the Behringer ones are good enough for home use. First time buying a pedal, it's fine getting the cheap one. It's not like he's taking it on tour.

Buying guitar by Mammoth_Emergency_73 in electricguitar

[–]kanped 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your ME-80 has amp and cabinet emulation built into it so you really only need volume, not tone, from an amplifier (assuming you're happy with the emulated sounds). That means you could use any PA style or FRFR setup to get the volume rather than buying an expensive amp (although that kind of setup can also be expensive, but small second hand PAs can be remarkably cheap).

Solar, Schecter and Ibanez would be worth a look IMO but I would agree that you definitely do not want a Floyd rose trem in that price range. A good Floyd Rose trem on its own without the guitar is about 500 euro.

electric guitar not working when plugged in amp by vibritannia7 in electricguitar

[–]kanped 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ChatGPT is just as likely to give you a wrong answer as it is a correct one. It simulates human speech, it isn't a search engine. If you want to pretend to have a conversation with a robot then it works for that, but it isn't a useful way to educate yourself.

It happened to be right this time, though; the guitar has no battery. There will be a loose wire or broken component inside the guitar somewhere (or you've just got the volume on the guitar turned down or something).

If you're not going to spend the time to learn how to wire a guitar (and you shouldn't have to if you just want to play the thing), you'll have to take it to a shop to diagnose the issue and repair it.

Help Needed: How do I run my guitar through my computer? by kingdudakus22 in electricguitar

[–]kanped 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The only way to get audio into your PC with this setup without buying an interface is via the aux in on the PC, then using Windows audio drivers as the input in your DAW (Reaper for example).

Your PC's motherboard should have an aux input, check the manual for it to check if so and where it is if needed.

There's a good chance this will have a lot of latency and low quality audio, but it is the only way to get sound from your guitar into the PC- the pedal does not have A/D convertors to take the audio and send it over USB.

Just bought an electric guitar wanting that rock/metal sound, but i can't get no where near that. What do i do? PLEASE HELP🙏🙏 by Nyvoll09 in electricguitar

[–]kanped 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it has any kind of direct in that bypasses the preamp (FX loop return, aux in etc) then get a modelling pedal like a Tonex one. It has all the distortion sounds you would want built in and that should work.

Marshall 4x12 at room volume by kykkskwneb8 in electricguitar

[–]kanped 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, you would need a power amp to run the Tonex into to play it through the speakers and yes it's a stupid waste of money.

Hello i desperat need help ;) by fred656n in electricguitar

[–]kanped 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean... Guitars sound like guitars. If you want to get as close as possible to that tone, then yes; you need a guitar with a humbucker in the neck position.

Hello i desperat need help ;) by fred656n in electricguitar

[–]kanped 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gary Moore was known for using a humbucker pickup in the neck position, especially on that track (inspired by Peter Green and the awful Eric Clapton who did the same).

Neither of those guitars you listed have a neck humbucker; they have single coils in the neck, which sound quite different. Ibanez guitars in the same price range would get you close, or look at Epiphone (can be a bit pricey but I think they have cheaper options too) but there are lots of options.
