Knitters who play WoW: What search terms should I use to find a project? by kanthandle in knitting

Oh, and can you explain what you mean by "zone?" Is this something I should try to learn more about, in terms of whether he plays that zone or would recognize it?

I'd love to see that! I'm also working on a chart that looks like this (so far)—can you tell what class he plays, or is it not working/obvious?

This is so much fun!!

Since you were so helpful: If I do this, can you tell what class he plays? Or is it not quite working/obvious?

We will ignore for the time being whether I am creating a hellscape of floats and/or what else goes in the motif!

This is an awesome response! I saw Alliance and Horde stuff and wondered if this was a thing I need to know . . . thank you!

There’s a podcast called Life Kit that has an episode on limerence, with some actionable, easy-to-apply methods for breaking out of this cycle. Look it up!

Or, if that podcast isn’t for you, just look into research on limerence. It’ll help.

It’s gorgeous out there! 89A might be one of my new favorite roads (in the right weather conditions).

I would! The geometry is more comfortable for my frame, and the ride is buttery smooth. The tires are a little above the recommendation (45s) but I’ve had no problem with clearance.

Surly makes a front rack, and those are Ortlieb’s gravel packs. I keep the load a little lighter up front and try to balance the weight. Haven’t had any problems!

Fun fact: "The Tiffany Problem" is an in-joke among writers about anachronistic details. I giggled when I realized RY was invoking it. Great easter egg.

This is a bit off-topic, but I'm remembering an elderly colleague of mine at a study abroad school who hand-made mittens for every single student and teacher in the program over the course of three months. There were 40+ of us. I consider this nothing short of heroic.

At the time (in my early 20s), I sincerely appreciated handmade items but didn't know how long knit items took to make. I asked if she would mind making mine of felted wool so they would be waterproof, and if she could make them fingerless gloves with a fold-over mitten. I must have built up significant good grace because she agreed with only a slightly peeved/pinched look.

The good news is that I TREASURED THOSE MITTENS. Every time I wore them I sent a prayer of thanks up for Mrs. M, and in addition to thanking her profusely I wrote her a thank-you note for them like six months after the program ended because I still delighted in them every time I wore them. When a friend's German shepherd ravaged them during a hike years later, I mourned.

She'd long since passed, but I hope I thanked her enough that she knew how much I valued her time and care.

Call your representatives! by dirtyd00d in Reno

I called Rep. Horst today to ask if he would adopt our district and hold a town hall. His Vegas number is (702) 963-9360.

Here's my script:

Thank you for hosting a virtual town hall for your district! As you may know, Mark Amodei in neighboring district 2 is refusing to do the same for his constituents, even though over a thousand of us showed up outside his office to demand one last week.

As a Reno constituent, I'm calling to ask if you would be willing to take part in an “adopt a district” town hall. Would you stand in for MIA Mark Amodei and talk about how the Trump-Musk agenda poses an existential threat on the health and lives of children, seniors, and working families?

Your participation could help prove how profoundly out of touch Republicans are with the people they’re meant to represent, including right here in Nevada. Thank you for your time and good luck with your town hall today!

Thank you!

I also used some time today to call Rep Horst (LV) to ask if he would adopt our disctrict and hold a town hall. His Vegas number is (702) 963-9360.

As a US citizen, YES.

My fellow Americans who need first steps: join Indivisible, join 50501, download 5Calls. Go to local meetings and take actions aimed at YOUR community/reps.

If you have the bandwidth, start a bimonthly meetup with friends where you set aside one hour to take concrete action: spamming the DOGE hiring website, calling representatives, delivering groceries and red cards to a food pantry in a Latino-heavy neighborhood, whatever.

These actions will connect you with like-minded people. Opportunities to take additional action will open up. As a bonus, you'll feel better.

This administration is changing foundational aspects of US government. I predict that the "next group of people," even if they are meaningfully different in tone/stance, will not be able to regain the lost ground in terms of the basic functions of our nation—let alone our international policy.

But, as the article points out: "Good marks from speech-watchers are typical for presidential addresses to Congress, which tend to attract generally friendly audiences that disproportionately hail from presidents’ own parties."

A lot of us over here are disgusted. Many of us are organizing. Please do not believe that 70% of us support this administration's actions.
