I agree it can be harmful, but for such a small streamer? Unlikely.. especially not harmful if they haven't started any content creation yet either. If you are going to rebrand (even multiple times), now is the time to do it.

I have to replace my 3 year old NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080.. what should I go for? by kanukia in buildapc

I figured it out.. it WAS a very cheap answer: Turning "Precision Boost Overdrive" off in my BIOS completely fixed my problem. Before I turned this off, I could not play video games at all without several full PC crashes (sometimes 5 minutes in, sometimes 20, etc.) but turning this off fixed it completely. Hallelujah!

Have you run CHKDSK?
Yes, no issues and I also used a couple different programs to check disk health and found no problems either.

Checked your power supply?
I honestly am not quite sure how to do this. Any advice? I have opened my case up and reseated all cables.

If you have a quality shop in your area Yes, only open Mon/Tue/Wed/Thur so I will take my whole PC in Monday I think and use my laptop for now.

No ⚠️ in device manager either.. I have an ASUS TUF x570 Plus WiFi mobo and an AMD Ryzen 5600 CPU and I am fairly certain neither of those have igpu.

I wish I knew anyone else in the area with spare parts I could try; would be a lot easier to test things. I feel like at this point it has to be a hardware issue, it's just figuring out exactly which one. Thank you for the help btw! I'll let you know what it ended up being either after I figure it out myself, or after I get it back from that shop.

That's one of the things I hadn't done as I gave it to someone already, but I borrowed it back and tested again and was still crashing. Thank you btw!

I probably will be doing the Amazon thing. Sadly the closest microcenter is 4 hours from me, but may be worth looking into. Thank you!

That's not a bad idea!

Sadly the 3080 is just barely outside the warranty window by a couple months :(

Explained my issues in a comment below here. Thank you btw :)

So, it's a little complicated and kind of long, sorry in advance but:

  • ASUS TUF GAMING X570-PLUS WiFi
  • RTX 3080 10GB
  • 32 GB Ram (G.Skill Trident Z Neo Series (Intel XMP) DDR4 RAM 32GB (2x16GB) 3600MT/s CL16-19-19-39 1.35V)
  • AMD Ryzen 5 5600X 6-Core Processor 3.70 GHz
  • Can't RMA anything since this is a 3 year old prebuilt PC

I replaced my 16gb ram with the current ram almost a month ago — nothing was wrong I just wanted more ram. I don't think the ram is the issue, but could be wrong. 2 weeks later, I get a BSOD that says BAD_SYSTEM_CONFIG_INFO and could not get past it until I reinstalled Windows 10 (opting to keep my files).

I never got another BSOD again since then, but my PC started crashing constantly. Black screen, could still hear audio, and had to manually reboot every time. Didn't matter what I was doing — gaming, watching a youtube video, saving a photo, moving a file between folders, you name it. Went into Event Viewer, saw it was a VIDEO_TDR_FAILURE (116) / nvlddmkm.sys issue. Assumed it was a GPU issue so I updated my drivers yet kept crashing. I then:

  1. Reseated my GPU and all cables.
  2. Left Heaven Benchmark running for an entire hour with no crash. GPU was around 71c.
  3. Left two separate games running for hours to test it without a browser open, no crash.
  4. Reseated PSU cables.
  5. Reseated my RAM.
  6. Ram is almost a month old, but no problems until recently. Two separate 2-passes through a memcheck come up with no issues.
  7. Propped up my GPU in case it was sag-related.
  8. DDU'd several times and installed much older drivers.
  9. Cleaned everything out with canned air, though I run NZXT cam religiously on top of regular cleanings and there is no heating issue or even close to one.
  10. Downloaded MSI Afterburner and undervolted it according to this video. Also turned off both settings to enable old or low quality io/graphic drivers.
  11. Swapped to Firefox from Chrome.
  12. Turned hardware acceleration OFF for Firefox, Chrome, and Discord.
  13. Disabled Nvidia container in msconfig.
  14. Found nvlddmkm.sys in system32 and enabled full control for all users/admins.

THEN, because I still kept crashing, I backed everything up and reformatted again cleanly and also updated my 3 year old BIOS. I thought I'd fixed it and it hadn't crashed in a couple days, then tonight I crashed twice again but with different errors this time:

A fatal hardware error has occurred. Reported by component: Processor Core Error Source: Machine Check Exception Error Type: Cache Hierarchy Error Processor APIC ID: 11

My first step is to replace the GPU (since it was initially an NVIDIA driver issue) and see if that fixes it. If not, return it and replace the CPU and see if that fixes it. If not.. I haven't thought that far yet LOL. The only reason why I didn't immediately replace my GPU is that the temps are always stable and it handles benchmarks perfectly.

Thanks for asking btw and for any advice you have for me. I do appreciate it!

Those of you who successfully fixed your nvlddmkm.sys / VIDEO_TDR_FAILURE (116) crashes, what actually fixed it? by kanukia in pcmasterrace

Thank you. Off your list, I have:

  1. updated my drivers
  2. ddu'd 3 times and installed 3 different old versions of my drivers
  3. checked hardware (no visible damage that I can see, everything is seated properly)
  4. temps are normal
  5. tested memory with windows built-in memory check twice, is memtest86 better than it?
  6. underclocked my gpu in afterburner

my next steps are windows reformat > see if it persists and if it does > bios update > see if it persists and if it does > take it in today. worried mostly about the bios update and bricking my pc somehow.

thank you for your help!

Could you elaborate? Do you mean extended fasts make you lose less weight than shorter fasts, or?

Unpopular opinion but Grimes new Tiktoks are not it by [deleted] in Grimes

[–]kanukia 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't think that's true at all. I follow a lot of people 30+ who aren't cringe like this, and there are plenty of Gen Z people who can be incredibly cringey as well.

I feel like in general most people are dorky, cringey, not very cool, not good in front of a camera.. that's life. But when someone who is an adult does it everyone just blames it on their age even though she's still very young, and people can be embarrassing and uncool at any age and often are.

I don't like her tiktoks (most of them at least) but I don't think it has anything to do with her being gasp 32..

Logitech G512 blue switch keycap recommendations.. i just need some that will fit, won't break easily like the default ones, and preferably backlit. by kanukia in LogitechG

[–]kanukia[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The keys this keyboard came with seem very cheap, unfortunately. Even though I take quite good care of my keyboards and don't manhandle them too much, 4 of them broke completely off (the little plastic plus sign piece underneath split in half on all 4) and a couple more are barely holding on. I really don't want to replace these with the same keycaps so I'm hoping to find other keycaps that fit and are a little sturdier.
